A Tense Descent into Darkness
"The Twisted Ones," written by Scott Cawthon and Kira Breed-Wrisley, is a spine-tingling addition to the Five Nights at Freddy’s series, plunging readers deeper into the world of animatronic horrors and psychological suspense. In this review, we navigate the twists and turns of this gripping tale and examine its impact on fans of the franchise. The narrative of "The Twisted Ones" picks up where its predecessor left off, following the protagonist, Charlie, as she returns to her hometown to confront the shadows of her past. What begins as a journey of self-discovery soon evolves into a harrowing battle for survival against a new breed of twisted animatronics. The plot unfolds with a relentless pace, weaving together elements of mystery, horror, and psychological thriller to keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very end. One of the strengths of "The Twisted Ones" lies in its richly developed characters, each grappling with their own fears, traumas, and secrets. From the resilient and resourceful Charlie to the enigmatic and troubled John, the protagonists are multi-dimensional and relatable, drawing readers into their struggles and triumphs. The novel explores themes of identity, friendship, and redemption, adding depth and complexity to its cast of characters. Set against the backdrop of a small, seemingly idyllic town, "The Twisted Ones" conjures a palpable sense of dread and unease. The authors skillfully craft an atmospheric setting filled with foreboding forests, abandoned buildings, and lurking shadows, heightening the tension and suspense at every turn. Whether navigating the darkened halls of an abandoned factory or venturing into the depths of a sinister underground lair, readers are immersed in a world where danger lurks around every corner. As the plot unfolds, "The Twisted Ones" introduces a new cast of nightmarish animatronics, each more terrifying than the last. WARNING: New Art Style For This One.
Much like before, the long stories of the original FNAF novel trilogy are condensed and adapted rather nicely into this graphic novel series. However, the first thing I noticed with THIS adaption was a jarringly different art style. You can still recognize the character from before, and the art quality is definitely more detailed and complex, but it's also annoyingly different from before. Maybe it's just me, but I find the change in art-style between this graphic novel and the previous one to be irritating, but that's mostly based in subjectivity on my part. Complaints about art aside, I will say this: If you're looking for a good view of the Twisted Animatronics, you're in for a good treat. Sure, they aren't illustrated in the same amount of detail as the original promo shots, but hey, this is a comic book, not a portrait. Seeing the animatronics in all their morbid glory is arguably my favorite thing about this graphic novel adaption. As for the story, this, much like the Silver Eyes graphic novel, is a more efficiently told version of the story of the original book it's based on. One particularly unpleasant minor scene in the original novel that I didn't like wasn't in this one, but scenes critical to the plot itself can be accounted for, and once again, as soon as you read beyond a certain point in the story, you simply CAN'T put the book down. This will give me LOTS of inspiration for my fan-fics, and just story-writing in general.

11 Year Old Approved
My 11 year old son read this book cover to cover very quickly on the day he got it. I take that to mean it was pretty captivating. This is a very popular series with the upper elementary kids and he was absolutely elated about receiving this as a gift. Since this series deals with scary topics, I would not gift it to another child without knowing how the parents feel about it.
