Does this read Avid microchips?

I don't know the format of Avid chip IDs, but I can tell you it read the Home Again chip (10 digits) and two different 24 Pet Watch chips, one with 15 digits and one with 10 digits. No idea if any of those are Avid, but we first bought a cheaper one (about $50) and it wouldn't read the Home Again chip or the 10-digit 24 Pet Watch chip.

Is it possible to adjust the volume of the beep? It's so loud it frightens away the cats I'm trying to scan.

Does it give the temperature info for chips that have the ability to tell the animals temperature?

No, the Hero™ scanner does not display the animal temperature, but will display the chip number.

Directions	To Scan: Push the button on the device to turn it on. Once ready to scan, hold down the button on the scanner and wave over the animal. Starting at the shoulder blades of the animal. If microchip is not found there, wave the scanner over the rest of the body of the animal to check for the microchip. Auto turn-off feature saves battery life.
