Helpful but not enough information to be ideal
"Achieving Your Pinnacle" was very helpful to me, because I'm looking to get into the field and I've passed a few exams but I didn't know much about the business end of things. However, there are some areas that would have been better if they were fleshed out more. It didn't answer any of my questions about computer skills: Is it worth it to learn SAS? SQL? MySQL? Python? Would certification for any of these help at all? How much Excel do you really need to know? What relationship would those skills have with compensation? Furthermore, the summary of the different specializations within actuarial science was a bit vague. It told you what businesses the various specializations service, but very little about what one would do differently within the specialization (other than how student programs and workloads vary).Also--my apologies for being cheap--$20 seems a little too expensive for the length. Costly material seems to be a chronic problem within actuarial science. But that doesn't make it OK.

Helpful guide to actuary careers
Our 15 year old daughter wanted to buy this book because she loves math and was interested in this field (really!) and she has found it very helpful to understanding what the field is all about.
