No. It comes shipped with a rubber edge guard.

Would I be able to use the back of the head as a hammer without compromising the clamping mechanism?

I wouldn’t recommend it. There is a small gap in the back. Could risk damaging the whole axe

What is the size and thread pitch of the screws on the hudson bay axe head? i need to replace them and rather not go out if i don't have to right now.
