Linux for Beginners: A Practical and Comprehensive Guide to Learn Linux Operating System and Master Linux Command Line. Contains Self-Evaluation Tests to Verify Your Learning Level Review: Good intro to Linux book. Highly recommended. - This is a great book for newbies to Linux. It has a brief 'history of Linux' section which was actually useful. I'm glad I didn't skip that part. Later, I learned where "SuDo" comes from. Other Linux references didn't say. I'll have to get back to it as my experience with Linux increases and my tasks become more complicated. Review: Good basic into book for Linux - Good jntro book if you are unsure of what Linux is and maybe want to get off Windows . Very basic but well written that targets those infamiliar with what Linux is . Hood explanations and examples .

Informative but?
After reading the other reviews, I may be missing something but I donโt think this book is going to convince any Windows user that Linux is a better alternative. To put in automotive terms, the average Windows user drives an automatic transmission and this book is trying to convince you that a 5 speed manual is better. Chapters 1 and 2 are good but chapter 8 โAlternative to Windowsโ should be chapter 3. Instead of explaining how to create the boot media you need, why not tell the reader that for a couple of bucks you can purchase the install dvd or usb media right here on Amazon or the other site that begins with E. No mention is made of the gui that allows you to set up your desktop to look like windows or how to add or delete apps from it. Something a window user would want to know. I am a retired network technician who spent the last 20+ years doing small business support for Unix and Windows based networks. I was even certified on Novell (whatโs that) networks. The rest of the chapters on the shell, commands and network administration are good if you want to follow in my footsteps. An individual user just wanting to replace MS Spyware 11 with something more secure may find all of the utilities and command line instructions to be a bit too daunting to undertake. I bought this book thinking that it may contain some information on new bells and whistles that may have appeared since I retired. I found myself saying โI forgot about thatโ instead of โI didnโt know thatโ. For that reason I am going to keep the book next to my computer as a desk reference.

lean Linux, dump windows.
Don't update to windows 11. Buy this book instead. I'm 2 months in and I'm surprised at how fast this makes sense.

Delivers on the title description
My son is interested in learning to code and build computers, so we got this book since it claimed to be for beginners. This book definitely is meant for beginners but in a good way. The author starts with the very basics and builds from there. What I loved about this book over others is 1. There were lots of pictures of what my screen should look like or graphics to explain things. And 2. Each chapter had a short little quiz at the end. This really helped me and my son see if we were getting what was being covered. I love that! Overall, a great tool to.learn Linux.

Good for new users
This is a book on Linux, I bought for my husband who is switching careers to IT. My only experience with Linux is from my work for an IT themed Halloween day when one of the Network guys dressed up like a penguin. After buying this book that makes a lot more sense. :-) So I asked my husband what he thought about it and he gives it 4 stars. He thought it was easy to read and understand and, as stated in the title, a practical guide for beginners. On a side note when I ordered this we originally received a family book "Would you rather..?" in error. Amazon made it right very quickly.
