Are  these prongs much easier to open and close compared to the 3.0 millimeter size?

Yes...The 2.25 is much easier to open and close and I have used the 2.25 on much larger dogs and this size works just fine for then too if the stiffer 3.0 links are an issue. The 3.0 is quite stiff to open and close. This 2.25 collar only has 5 links on each side of the middle plate so the diameter is only about 12 inches.  You can buy extra links individually but they are expensive and the ones I saw don't offer the free shipping. If you need any extra links it is MUCH cheaper to buy an extra collar and then just take it apart for the links as needed...especially if you have a growing dog.

I have a 55lb submissive lab. I like the idea of smaller prongs. Do you think this would fit with one pkg of extra prongs?

Hi there here is additional helpful information that will help you decide what prong size collar to use for your dog. Use this Manufacturer dog weight recommendation for choosing a prong size:

2.25 mm for up to 20 kilograms or 44 pounds
3 mm and 3.2 mm for up to 40 kilograms or 88 pounds
3.9 and 4 mm for up to 70 kilograms or 154 pounds

Then you locate the collars with the ideal prong size that is suitable for your dog's weight.

Question 3

Is this collar always used even after dog has learned what to do?

You shouldn't leave it on unsupervised. A branch, thread, or something else could get caught and choke the dogs.

Also, once the dog is trained you shouldn't need this collar anymore.

I have dog with 18 inch neck how many extra sets of the links should i buy

I purchased the 18" when my puppy was about 6mo's old and now she's about a year old.  She's an English Bulldog/Boxer mix & about 56lbs in weight and I'm not sure her neck measurement but think she's about a 21".  When I purchased the collar I did purchase 3 extra links and now use all three of the links.  I probably should have purchased four though in case she gains any further weight. Hope that helps!
