SKIL 14 Amp Plunge and Fixed Base Router Combo — RT1322-00

I've been woodworking and building for 60+ years. Lots of tools; lots of brands. SKIL was never at the top of my list.... ....it is now. They have seriously elevated their game. Loaded with features not found on much more expensive brands: soft start, RPM control (0-25,000), LED lighted clear base, vacuum port, safety light so you remember to unplug before changing bits., Heavy-duty, solid build, no undue vibration. Very ergonomic; feels balanced, not awkward. Would prefer the two-wrench method of changing bits, never cared for having to hold down a button, but that's just me. These features at this price is hard to believe. Great router. Just ordered another! Having said that, the seller page states 2HP, but the box states 1.75 HP. (10 amps = about 1.61 HP +/-) That's fine, no complaint there. Just sayin'. Plenty powerful enough for any project.

I own around 7 routers and I would say this one is excellent value. For what I do I don’t like spending time changing router bits so I just have multiple routers with different bits ready to go. Only other battery powered type I have is Ryobi and so far this is better quality. I built this custom guitar using mostly this Skil router for main cavities. I only have 2 complaints about it but they are not a big deal. First is the plastic base shape. The rounded side should extent out more because if that falls into a template cavity hole which happened to me on the largest cavity, it can damage your project or template. I usually replace the base on routers anyway. Second thing that happened bothers me more but is something you just need to be aware of. After charging the battery I put it back in and the router light turned on and stayed on which was unusual. I put the router in my template and turn it on and nothing happens. Right as I start to pull it out to check what’s happening the router starts after delay which was both dangerous and also damaged my template which upsets me. If you change battery you need to expect possible router delay for starting. Overall it’s great value

I had to replace my router since the 1/2" collet was machined wrong. I would not accept a 1/2" bit nor the 1/4" collet that came with it. I contacted Skil support and was told they would send me a new collet. But after a week I had not heard from them (sent inquiring email) and did not receive the part. I returned it to Amazon and bought the exact Skil router. This one has a good collet and works great. So I say this is a good product but Skil's support is not so good. Also I had to register the first router to get support and cannot delete it. I have asked Skil support to delete it. The serial # was 328079663. So if you buy one with that serial # check the collet first then make sure you can register it.

I bought this as a dedicated router for my SKIL RAS900 Router Table. It fits the table perfectly and all of the controls for speed and height adjustment are at the front if one puts the plate on the proper way. On my first install I had all of the controls at the back and realized that was not handy. I then saw that I could turn the router 180 degrees on the plate and as such all of the controls are at the front of the router table. It is very easy to adjust the height from huge adjustments to minor or micro ones. I am able to change any bit with the router installed so that is a plus. No need to remove the router or reach under the table as the bit can be installed or removed with the included wrench at the top of the router table. When I first turned on the router in the house with no bit attached I did a speed test and one could hear the huge difference from the 1 to the max 6 adjustment on the speed dial. For those interested in how much voltage this router uses, my tests showed it used 105 volts on the lowest speed and 535 volts on the highest speed. Now that was tested with no bit attached. Now with a bit cutting into wood creating a workload one would think that all of my voltage numbers would be a bit higher. It comes with an edge guide and all of those cheap ones are next to useless, unless one just wants to cut a dado straight down the board with no concern of an exact measurement in distance from the edge. The included 1/4 inch collet that plugs into the 1/2 inch collet is solid and a perfect fit for 1/4 inch shank bits. For the price this looks to be a really good router and will handle most tasks that one will ever do with a router table.

Leider konnte ich das Gerät noch nicht testen. Bei der Bestellung war leider nicht beschrieben das dieses Gerät in der USA Ausführung geliefert wird. Ich mußte mir extra einen Spannugswandler kaufen damit ich den Akku aufladen kann. Es wäre Empfehlenswert dieses USA Geräte die mit 110V Spannung betrieben werden ausführlich darauf hinzuweisen. Die Qualität des Gerätes ist OK.

High quality product but is unable to be used in Australia

Sadly, I had to send this back as it is 120 volt, so I would have to buy a transformer to use it. Loved the spec and it looked great, but it was not meant to be. If you have a transformer, then yes, it looks like a great bit of kit for the money.
