Narex Richter Review
The Narex Richter chisel set is everything it was advertised to be. They are extremely sharp, well made and put together. They can shave off the thinnest amounts of wood and the storage box is very nice too.

great value
bought them for my wife so she would give me back my Ashley Iles chisels. I was surprised by their quality. I may borrow her chisels in the future

Uber sharp right out of the box.
These are absolutely top notch. The sharpest out of the box of all the chisels I’ve purchased over the years. Very nicely made and come with a well made storage/display box.

Came Flat and Sharp, stayed that way
These took very little lapping to bring the back to absolute flatness (any new chisel will take some) especially compared to standard Narex. They stay sharp way longer than standard Narex, without much fuss honing on diamond plates/compound. They take a blistering sharp edge when honed and stropped on green compound. The primary bevel being a few ticks under 25 degrees makes for easy paring cuts including in end grain but didn't exhibit the tendency to chip harder steel sometimes do when I tested busting through some glue lines and knots.Bevelled edges taper down to minimal lands which along with the slim cross section make for easy access into most recesses. Compared to a lie nielsen, which is about 50% thicker at the base, it's hard not to feel like the slimmer cross section of these Narex might be more delicate but, in use, I have not noticed a difference in flex or deflection perhaps owing to the greater hardness of the steel, which typically comes with greater stiffness. Perhaps it's the best of both worlds where they can probably take the abuse but the feel reminds me not to be ham fisted. The handle too is well shaped and finished and most comfortable in a push/paring grip, as opposed to optimized for chopping down grip like a stanley 750 or lie nielsen, but works well for all bench chisel tasks/orientations. Your grip preferences, more than anything else, may determine whether you simply like or love these as that feel in hand is a very personal and subjective.Summary: Good fit and finish. Steel is great. Shape is comfortable and versatile. Feel in hand should be good to great, depending on preferences. Value is unmatched as I haven't used anything comparable that doesn't cost 50%-100% more.

Chisels are great, box arrived with clasp broken.
Just received my chisels. They look and feel incredible. However, the wooden box they came in arrived with the lower portion of the metal clasp system loose in the box. It looks as though the screws were very shallow, and the wood was ripped out where they were screwed in. Hoping I can get a replacement box.

Some of the best chisels you can buy
They came sharp enough to use for a good time right out of the box. The blade is a solid thickness that is very hard to bend or nick up at all.

Five star chisels, one star packaging...
You know you're going to have a good time, when you're walking in the front door, with your just delivered new set of expensive premium chisels, and you can hear things rattling loose in the box...I am starting a very complex project that is going to require a lot of hand chisel work. I decided it was time to treat myself to a set of quality chisels., rather than some big box store junk, and based on the glowing reviews that the Narex Richters receive from almost every reviewer. I decided to direct my "buy once, cry once" dollars in that direction. Now let me say at the outset. The chisels are fantastic, beautifully finished, sharp enough to shave hair straight out of the package, and fortunately, for the most part, were undamaged, despite the poor way that Narex packaged them. The chisels as received, had no plastic edge protectors installed (which I have seen installed in several video reviews). The only thing holding them in place, in what was I'm sure at the time it left the factory a lovely wooden presentation box., was a single strip of low density foam (for those that have ever bought gaming miniatures, I'm talking about the squishy gray stuff, that used to be used to back up metal miniatures packages) this foam had no ability to provide any pressure to keep the chisels in place within the wooden box and allowed the chisels to bounce all over the interior. This resulted in several of the saddles designed to keep the chisels in place actually being cracked, numerous wear marks, and the largest chisel gouged the hell out of the inside of the box.If this was a cheap set of Chinese chisels at a quarter to a third the price, I probably wouldn't even mention this in the review. But for a 100+ year old company, puporting to sell a premium product, and going to the extent of creating a nicely finished wooden presentation box, to complete that premium vibe, only to save a few cents by skipping some cheap plastic caps, and 4 inches of quality foam with some structural density, is pretty much the height of idiocy.I need to get my project rolling, so I will not return these and cause myself further delay, but it's always going to be a sore spot spending this kind of money in the current early 2025 downsliding economy, only to receive a premium product, that the manufacturer packaged like it was trash.I bought through Amazon, but purposely selected Taylor Toolworks as the seller, to avoid any issues with counterfeits, etc, so I can only assume that the set is genuine, and Narex just doesn't care enough to package their very expensive chisels, in even a reasonably protective manner. If these chisels give me years of outstanding service, I will probably forget about this initial disappointment sooner or later, but right now it leaves me pretty damned irritated with the jaw dropping level of manufacturer carelessness....
