Works far better than I expected.
I need to do alot of file transfers of locally stored data and had purchased a Samsung 970 Evo Plus M.2 SSD and installed in into a Sabrent M.2 NVMe external enclosure. This solution was wonderful because it was complete overkill but guaranteed that the SSD wouldn't be a bottleneck. The only issue I had was it's not inherently secure. I could use software encryption but that would slow down the transfer dramatically, especially since many of these transfers are from old systems that don't have much processing power, over to new systems. When I heard Samsung was going to release the T7 Touch I was very excited but obviously skeptical. How fast would it actually be, would the fingerprint sensor work on any device without needing to install software, how accurate is the fingerprint sensor, how fast does it find a match and unlock, etc...I'm happy to confirm that the fingerprint reader is indeed fast, accurate and allows for multiple fingerprints to be enrolled. (Can add friends, family, coworkers, etc.) I currently have four fingers registered so I can easily unlock it when it's plugged-in on either side of me. The reader can... well read... from any orientation so you don't have to line it up straight. The SSD can be backwards and register you just fine. Also it only takes about a 1.5 to 2.0 seconds to unlock. Lastly and most importantly, everything is saved onboard and no software is needed, *After the initial setup*, to access the data. You can plug it into any device that is capable of reading it and unlock it without any headaches. It's not disclosed if this SSD uses TLC or QLC Flash Nand and it doesn't offer a TBW limit with it's warranty, only that it has a 3yr warranty which is 2yrs less than their typical 5yrs offered on most of their TLC SSDs. So I have no idea how long it will actually last with my specific workload but If I can actually get a solid 3-years out of it then I will be impressed.Lastly, this thing is very thin and very light... something my Sabrent enclosure was not lol. I loved the solid block of aluminum but it was quite-cumbersome in the pocket sometimes, especially when kneeling or needing to lay-down to access something that's hard to reach.All-in-all I've been very pleased this past month with my purchase and have since 'secure-erased' the 970 Evo Plus and added it as a secondary SSD to the one I'm already using in my desktop.

Excellent SSD, with added security
Excellent, fast and secure. It meets the expectations and it's up to the specifications.Although pricey, the touch sensor for added security is what made me buy this. Pretty sleek and slim, it feels ultra premium in your hand.

Versatile and Powerful
Personally, I haven’t had any issues with this External SSD. I had initially worries about all of the bugs and compatibility issues I’ve seen in review, but I guess I lucked out.I use this drive to switch between devices quickly for both work and recreation.Photo/Video: I was able to backup all content for work and quickly transfer files. Take a photo on my phone, use the drive to transfer in seconds, pop the drive over to my laptop/tablet, and edit there. I have had no issues transferring between Apple and Android. This has also been great with family photos. Wiped about 50Gbs of family photos in 10min, and back onto another drive and computer in another 10min.Gaming: My laptop has limited space and I prioritize keeping my work files on the device, so I keep my game library/save files on my SSD. Watched a few tutorials about how to make my SSD the default locations to save my games and launch from. Desktop shortcuts can be used to do this as well. Now I’m not as tempted to start a game of CIV 6 during lunch. When I do have time, all I do in plug in the drive, and run my games off that.Security and Compatibility:So far the fingerprint scanner has not caused any issues. Tested with my boyfriend and family, and it has not accidentally unlocked. The device has displayed consistent speed across all devices.

Perfect Speed and Size for 6K or 8K Era
Not all knowledge is equal when generating reviews less than protection for this product. The drive is compatible in either an Mac operating system or Windows operating system. Competitors offer the same drive size but the writing speed (data transfer rate) for 6K or 8k is IMPORTANT for video captures. The difference is formatting the drive as brand new and removing the security feature for full access use in the video production world. One can purchase a 5 foot Type C to Type C USB cable, slip the drive in a pocket, and connect directly to a phone/camera for continuous 2 hour recording in the field. Professionals mount it to a rig for the professional look so customers don't question abilities of performing the job.No need for additional images of videos for the review. Most wouldn't know the difference by just looking at. Would have to be a full support tech to know the solution. In which after 20 years of support, it is clear the challenges are deriving from the users.

Very good drive, not so good thumb-reader
Samsung makes good ssd drives. Well made, fast, and works on all systems, including raspberry pi. The t7 is longer and thinner than the t5, for reference. The thumb-reader isn’t so good and I don’t know why. Sometimes I can be unlocking this thing for over 5 minutes, all different angles and fingers, which is frustrating. On a Mac or pc, you can use the software to unlock, but on anything else, like an iPad or raspberry pi, there isn’t any other option than to keep trying. I do like having an encrypted, 1tb usb-c drive, just wish the thumb reader worked better or other options for iPad or Linux were available.
