I haven’t had the chance to use it while fishing but I’ve tied lots of knots with a - tying on flies, splicing line, leader to fly line. It woks. Myself eyes and my hand don’t work as well as they used to. With this tool I’m not fighting the line to keep the loop open at the fly so I can poke the tag end back through the loop that’s try to twist closed. I did a lot of tying so it would become second nature but mostly I just enjoyed messing with it. Watch the video a couple of times and try a couple of ties. It’s really easy. Made in USA. Also you’re tying the knot about 3” from the fly so you don’t get wiggle legs and other hackle caught up in the knot. After the knot is complete you draw the knot down to the hook eye. I guess you use a little more line in making these knots but monofilament is cheap. Fishing time isn’t.

I bought this tool because I fly fish eight to nine months a year. Tying knots however is not my strong suit mainly because the line (mainly leader and tippet) and flies are small and my hands and fingers are large. This tool is a great guide for tying nail knots for attaching a leader to fly line, attaching tippet material to the leader and tying flies to tippet material. The nail knot is so versatile and difficult to tie without some practice. This tool simplifies the whole process. The directions that come with this tool are very basic and are pretty much useless but you can easily search YouTube for videos on using this tool to tie knots. It's simple design and ease of use make this a great tool for any fisherman to have. Make sure you practice at home a few times while watching the video and then it will become second nature for you to tie fast knots out on the river or lake. I would highly recommend this product. ***UPDATE*** I still use this product every time I go fishing and it is so great. Helps tie a strong knot to the fly and also is great for splicing tippet material together just like if not better than a blood knot. So simple to use and the nail knot is very strong.
