The Berenstain Bears' New Baby

Perfect preparation for becoming a big brother or sister! I bought this Berenstain Bears book for my granddaughter who's expecting a new sibling. The story beautifully shows how exciting and special it is to be a big brother or sister, helping children adjust to their new role with enthusiasm rather than worry. Classic Berenstain Bears charm that makes the transition feel like an adventure.

The Berenstain Bears’ never disappoint. Used to read them as a kid and now buy them for my 1 year old niece. It comes with two sticker pages, one is the first page, the other the back page. The sticker sheets are identical so you get two of each sticker. I already gave some to my niece which is why they are missing from the pictures, but they came full. Art is classic and the print quality good. Colors are rich and they don’t skimp on the amount of pictures on each page so it’s very captivating for toddlers. Even if they don’t understand the words yet, pointing at pictures to analyze is enriching. As an added treat, there is a word search on the back of the front cover and a check list on the back page. Cute way to track the Berenstain bears you’ve read with your baby.

This is a great big brother book for teaching older siblings how to make room for a baby while they are growing out of their own baby things. It doesn’t convey how to relate to the baby, who the big brother only meets at the end of the book. You follow Small Bear as he helps Papa Bear build him a bigger bed and he finds his new sister in his baby bed when they get back home.

We bought this book for my 3 year old to help explain that he will be having a baby brother. Beautiful illustration and story. My son has had me read it to him on repeat.

I grew up with the Berenstain Bears books and my daughter loves this book as well. The fact that the characters are bears doesn't confuse her and calling brother bear just small bear doesn't confuse her either. At the end of the book when sister bear is born I "change" the words of the book to call him brother bear so she gets the idea. This book seems more appropriate than the newer version with the birds and the bees. It doesn't go through a lot in regards to the changes that brother bear will endure after sister bear is born but it does go through a typical day in the life of small bear and how he doesn't notice how big mama bear has gotten. Papa bear takes small bear out to build a new bed and mama bear stays behind to deliver the new baby (which isn't mentioned, sister bear just appears in the last few pages). I like how it relates a lot of siblings in the sense of how the older child's "stuff" is passed down to the younger sibling. My daughter got a new bed and is now waiting the arrival of her baby brother so he can go in her old crib (just like in the story). It doesn't explain how to be gentle to the baby and how everything is going to change for small bear but I honestly like that because in most cases other than having a new baby in the house, the toddler isn't going to up and change his/her ways just because a baby is around. I still expect my daughter to run rampant in the house when her brother is sleeping and expect me to take her to the park in 100 degree weather with the baby (and we will)! Other books seem as though the older child's life has to get flipped upside down due to the birth of a baby while this book insinuates that brother will have a part in sister's life but his life will remain unchanged because his needs are still just as important as they were prior to his little sister being born.

We got this for our daughter as a big sister gift for after her brother is born. He isn’t here yet but she loves books and I see this as being one of her new favorites!

This is the perfect book for any kid with a new sibling on the way.
