Fiskars 24" Machete Saw, Dual-Edge w/Tempered Steel Blade & Aggressive Saw

The Fiskars Machete is perfect for my yard and tree maintenance needs. The saw portion of the blade is extremely sharp and the cutting blade is fairly sharp. Lightweight and easy to use. Definitely needs a sheath to prevent injury when not in use.

Nice feel but does not come sharp. The saw on the back looks a little menacing but is a pretty handy feature for brush. Snapped right at the second sawtooth on some I guess hardy Virginia thorny vines. The blade is still in good shape but dull and not useful anymore. Will check with Fiskars on the lifetime warranty and update here.

I was looking for a machete to take down some small trees and vines that spring up now and then in my yard which are too large for my pocket knife. In the past I’ve had to get my battery powered recip saw, put in the battery & saw blade, cut it then remove battery & blade. I’ve had good results with Fiskar scissors & this was the right length. Now just grab it off the wall cut the thing and put it right back.

I purchased this machete on a whim after seeing it was $13 and some change. I did read the reviews and see that they're mixed as to the quality of the product. Upon opening and first using the machete I was impressed with how it performed given some of the reviews I was seeing. The blade came relatively sharp but not sharp enough to slice paper. I tried it out on some weeds and small limbs in my yard and it managed to get through everything no problem. I did make a small dent in the tip when I caught it on my chainlink fence. I brought the blade inside and took the sharpening stone to it. 5-10 minutes of sharpening did the blade a world of good and I was able to slice paper. Edge retention isn't the best and you will notice that after heavy impacts into thicker branches that there are very small pieces of the edge missing (less than 1mm). To me that's an indicator of the quality of the steel used. The saw blade on the back actually works really well and I was able to saw through a 3" branch with relatively little fuss. You really need a sheath and I jury rigged one out of the plastic packaging and some duct tape to prevent this from falling and hurting someone. All in all I would say this isn't something I'd recommend over a Tramontina, but for $13 it will certainly help with some yard work.

Did I need this, no. Did I want this, yes. It's a fun saw / weapon to hold and should serve me well in a zombie apocalypse. It's also a great backup option if my weed whacker fails. The intent is bushwhacking.

This is a well made machete that was delivered with a keen edge. It is well balanced and has a comfortable grip. I feel it is worth the price premium over lower quality imported machetes. It appears to be a tool that will last and that can tolerate rough usage.
