Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, Vol. 2- Garma

The second volume of the Origin series re-released by Vertical captures the story of Garma Zabi from one of his first appearances all the way to his last. The White Base has entered the atmosphere but has veered off course and landed in Zeon-controlled North America. This deadly detour has them encountering the youngest son of Degwin Zabi, and his armada of Gaw attack carriers, Dopp Fighters, and Magella Attack Tanks. The White Base must fight its way through North America with little supplies and almost no help while being constantly barraged by Garma's forces and Char's personal Mobile Suit! Meanwhile, Amuro finds a close family member in a town nearby and struggles with being in a war situation and not being able to reconnect the way he wants to. With the life of the crew riding partially on his shoulders, he must make the decision to continue fighting for the Federation and take down the Zeon forces that he encounters!So, this second book is in the same, nice manga-style format with a hardcover and slightly larger size. The cover is subtle (although there are many other covers that would go with this story that I would have liked to have seen instead as the cover) but wonderfully done with a nice back cover featuring White Base as well. The story is really like watching an anime as it immerses you into the story very quickly and you really don't come out of it. This is one of those book that, given the time, you'll read it from front to back; despite the 432-page-count the book sports. Once again, there are beautiful watercolor pages scattered throughout (usually at the beginning or end of an act) and more action sequences than you can shake a Beam Saber at! The story's changed just enough that you can read it even if you have an expert knowledge on the anime but it stays true enough that it doesn't piss you off with needless changes to the plot. I was mistaken on the review of the first book in stating that it was a sewn binding but the glued binding is really well done (enough to fool me!) The only extra here is a little interview piece with CLAMP and an art piece drawn by them along with some of the related Origin covers. Overall, yet another fun read and definitely, above all other Gundam mangas, the one to get if you're a fan or even if you're not! The best part is, the best parts of the story are still yet to come!

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin is an amazing addition to the Gundam franchise, and vol. 2 holds true to that.Tominos First Gundam was the first series to start it all, but due to an early cancellation it never got the chance to fully flesh out the characters and story lines. And over 30 years later it gets a release it deserves (in the states). The characters are truly fleshed out in these volumes. For example, in the original T.V. series you simply know who Garma is and his relation with Char. In this book, Garma is given more dimension and his relationship with Char becomes more fully realized. The characters are drawn in a way that gives more emotion and attachment to what is currently going better than the Anime and First Gundam Manga Serialization titled Mobile Suit Gundam 0079.The extras with that go along with this product are quite nice as well. The small art gallery, fully painted in the back of the book, is just gorgeous. Some of which I would love to have a full size painting of so I could display them in my home. And then the extra commentary by CLAMP in the back was a nice read as well. I normally cant get into those sorts of things but this actually kept me reading it. Also, the CLAMP style of Amura Ray in the back was a nice touch, not my favorite style of art but you can really tell how much they respect First Gundam and what it has done for the Anime community.Overall, this was a great purchase. A nice hardback copy, great quality pages, artwork surpassing many of todays works, and a story that pulls you in and holds you there whether your new to Gundam or a long time fan.

Awesome series so far. I seen the first volume at my local Barnes and Nobel, and decided to pick it up. Never being fully immersed in the Gundam series before (I've only watched Gundam Wing on Toonami when I was younger), I found that this was a great place to start acquiring my Gundam lore. The first volume was excellent, and this one picks up plasma cannons blazing! Although I'm only half way through this volume, I had to stop by and write a review for this! I love the political intrigue in this story (which was one of the reasons I loved Gundam Wing), and the mature subject matter; which seems to be rare in a shounen series (Death Note not included). I find it refreshing to read a series like this, and I plan to collect the entire series via these volumes.The presentation is top notched with beautiful artwork and a hardcover binding. At the beginning of each part, the art is done in superb watercolors, which makes me wish that the artist did this through the entire book. The battle scenes with the Mobile Suits are outstanding, and makes me hunger for more of this! The upside of buying this on Amazon is that it's $10 cheaper than you'd pay at a Barnes and Nobel store. However, even at $30 per volume at B&N, it's well worth it!For Gundam and Mecha fans, this series is a must buy!

I am on book 5 now and have been very happy with the quality of the books. they feel very nice and look great. Also a great story

For $22 I got a hardcover book (no slip cover so the art is printed on the cover) with all the pages of glossy paper so the black ink really gives good contrast and the colored pages look colorful. It is something you want to keep on a shelf to show off.As for the story itself, it will get you hooked. You don't have to know anything about Gundam or the UC timeline (but at least read the first volume) to enjoy this great retelling of an anime classic some important changes but nothing too drastic.You've got Amuro Ray piloting a new military weapon not by choice and coming to grips with the reality of war and combat, and Char Aznable, his rival in the opposing Zeon forces who has his own secret motives. What's he up to?Buy this book. This is something you want to be holding in your hands, not flipping through some PDF file on your computer.

A classic Manga well worth the read

A fun addition to my collection. Got into Gundam last year and have been gradually adding the ORIGIN volumes to my collect one by one. Love the artwork and feel of the hardcover. Absolute must for anyone trying to read and follow the series.

The 2nd installment of Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin is just as beautiful as the first. The story picks up where it left off during the end of Vol. 1 and focuses on Garma Zabi's forces engaging the White base on Earth. The book is mainly in black and white but like Vol. 1 incorporates beautiful color pages throughout the book. At the end of Vol.2 there are some wonderful colored art work pages featuring characters such as Char, Amuro, Garma, and some of the Gundam. I love how these books are being produced as Hardcovers and will look fantastic on a shelf one day as a complete set. This is a must have for any Gundam fan of the Universal Century era and a great introduction into the Gundam universe for people who have not seen the anime or other Gundam works.

Não tem o que falar dessa edição de luxo da vertical. É emoção página a página de ter uma obra prima do Tomino em mãos, com uma releitura do Yasuhiko que trabalhou em conjunto na série original. Quando se lê, sabe o porque Gundam é o que é hoje, um dos três grandes clássicos (junto com CDZ e Dragon Ball) até hoje.

Los espero con ansia para tener la coleccion un gran formato y pasta resistente solo deberían empacarlos mejor por favor

L'edizione PERFETTA per ogni appassionato di Gundam.Ricalca quello che in Italia è arrivato nella collana "The Origin" ma si presenta molto bene, con copertina rigida, alcune pagine a colori e degli inserti speciali a fine volume.È un peccato che non sia mai stata serializzata in Italia questa versione ma, ad oggi, è forse la miglior rappresentazione del manga che ha dato il via al mito.La consiglio senz'ombra di dubbio!

Although I relate to Char more than Amuro, I like how the story unfolds.Oh, this comic book is so heavy. The heaviest manga that I read.
