That's the stent take apart clean and lube . pivot lube is best . But w d 40 will clean and lube in a pinch if still makes noise retern it.

is the blade awkward to open?

Not really awkward, but the flipper is pretty small and set far forward. It will swing out without flipping your wrist, but not with authority. That doesn't bother me as I like hearing my flippers lock in. In fact I routinely cycle through all my knives, opening and closing them, polishing them before they are returned to their respective positions in the case, all while humming tunelessly. My wife considers this a bit unsettling, like maybe I'm a little unhinged. Hey, I collect knives, what can I say?

Mine came with a blue pivot and screws. All the rest is stainless but D2 blade ? I still love it good action.
