A Very Good Detector
I bought the Simplex as a "niche" detector meaning - I have another one with a higher frequency, which is probably better for small gold items. The Simplex, on the other hand, is better (detects deeper) for coins, tokens, and rings which is what I mostly hunt. I don't live in an area where I can do any gold prospecting, so the Simplex has become my "go to" machine. The design of this detector's controls are well conceived: not too many "bells and whistles", but just enough to be very functional. It allows you to concentrate on the hunt and not on the machine. I love how quickly I can switch from Field Mode to Park Mode as target density increases, and visa versa when signals become farther apart. My advise to anyone purchasing the Simplex (as with any detector) is take time to learn it's functions. While it is very easy to use and not overly complex, to get optimum results will require setting it up properly according to the ground conditions which you are hunting in. If you are a beginner, or a casual detectorist who isn't too "Techy", then the Simplex is one of the best all around detectors for the money.

Absolutely fantastic for the price!!!
Now that I've had this detector for a few months and have had time to try it out, it's time for an honest review. I absolutely love this detector! I ordered a cheaper one on Amazon but quickly realized that I would get tired of it fast, due to the lack of options and settings. I then ordered this one and was happy from the second I opened the box. This is my first (technically 2nd) detector, so I can't compare to any other brands, but I'm very happy with what I've learned about this one so far. It's waterproof, so cleanup after a day on the beach is super easy, just rinse and go! Speaking of being waterproof, that also helps prevent sand and whatnot from getting in the detector if you set it down in the sand. The collapsible shaft is a great feature that I hadn't thought about before. We have 4 kids, so when we pack the van full, I still have room for the detector in the back. I'm 6'2" and the extended length is plenty to be able to get a proper swing. I'd say it'd possibly be good for someone up to around 6'4" or so, depending on their arm length. There's a small indentionon the bottom of the shaft that shows where the rear adjustment should line up. There are also numbers on the side of the lower shaft section (1-6) for height adjustments. Very user friendly! My father-in-law and I went detecting recently and I was hitting targets 8-10" deep, in dry sand, and his detector never hit. Once I dug half way down or so, his detector would hit the target. He uses one of the $100 detectors here on Amazon (Bounty Hunter). I was mistaken when reading reviews, but this detector will NOT work with any wireless headphones, other than Notka branded headphone. I ordered the set without the headphones. It came with an adaptor for headphones, but keep in mind, it's a 1/4" adaptor. You'll need an 1/4" to 1/8" adaptor to use it. Another side affect of having an adaptor is sound quality. I've never used a 1/4" to 1/8" adaptor without getting scratchy noise or nothing at times. I'd definitely order the wireless set if you plan to use headphones. You CAN order the headphones later and still be about the same price overall. I'm no expert, by any stretch of the imagination, but I know this detector is great for the price and features. Very easy to setup and use. I'm still learning the sounds and vdi numbers on the display, but it's coming to me pretty quickly.

Great Product Detected!
The good: Price, ergonomics, screen, features, weight, build quality, detection depth, usability The not-so-good: Proprietary wireless headphones, complex interface, limited instructions, Bottom line: Nokta is going to the top of our list of “Brands to shop for.” Whenever we need metal detector supplies, I will be looking at this brand first. A nice side note, this seller (ValueGroupie) has been very responsive and helpful! You have come across a great product with this detector. Whether you’re new to detecting or you’re someone who is looking to upgrade an older model, this device is a great option. My father-in-law has been metal detecting for years and has found some really cool items. He recently damaged his old detector in a move (A White’s Prizm V) and we were unable to get it working again. After some reading and consideration, we bought him this one as a replacement and couldn’t be happier. For those folks new to detecting, White’s was the name to beat for many years and was acquired by Garrett in the last few years. Garrett, it seems, has become the name to beat in metal detecting. White’s has been known for prices on the high side, but users swear by the brand’s quality and even say that the price is a bargain for the product. Garrett’s prices do seem a little lower than White’s for the beginner-intermediate detector, and they seem to be well liked. When I was looking, there really wasn’t anything with the features we wanted for under $400-$500 until I came across the Nokta Makro Simplex. This device is almost half the price of many of the competitors out there with similar features. The first thing that stands out is the change in design from what we are used to seeing in metal detectors. The bent-handle design is not present in the Simplex – it is replaced by a perpendicular handle design. We have all found that we like the ergonomics of the Nokta setup much better than previous designs. The fit of the armrest/handle is more comfortable, and the screen seems more visible as well. The screen itself looks great; it’s much more modern than those we’ve seen in the past. The features for price at this price-point are really unbeatable as far as I can tell. Here are some of the things that have stood out to us in our initial uses: • Vibrate/Beep detection functionality • Completely waterproof to 10 feet submerged (for diving as well as wading) • 3-frequency detection modes to avoid EM Interference • Auto ground-balancing • Rechargeable internal battery • Adjustable Iron volume • Notch discrimination • Backlit screen • Noticably lightweight • Wireless built-in (Unfortunately with a big caveat, see below) Several of these are features you’re going to find on entry level detectors most anywhere. Some of them, though, are usually found on the intermediate detectors. Notch discrimination, waterproofing, wireless modules, vibration, and others are largely in the category and price above that of an entry level detector. It may be the handle design, but this detector truly feels lighter than older ones (namely White’s) to us. There are also carbon fiber shafts available for purchase that may further lighten the device. The build quality on this detector seems top notch. It’s every bit as solid as a modern flagship cellphone, with the added benefit of being waterproof. The detection depth is seriously ridiculous. We have dug things up that have been over 12 inches deep. These are small pieces, too! Largley, this thing is power on and go. The settings out of the box will have you detecting in about 3 minutes after you assemble the device. If you want to use some of the more advanced features, though, you’ll need to spend some time reading and possibly watching videos. The most disappointing piece about the Simplex is that it is NOT compatible with just any bluetooth headset. There may be a very good reason for this (EMI at the freqencies required to make bluetooth work, etc.), but it is something to be aware of. If you want wireless headphones for this, plan on buying the starter kit with the wireless headphones included. The other issues are much less about disappointment in the product and more about preparing yourself for what you’re buying. This is a complex device with tons of integrated features. The menus are necessarily quite deep in places. The screen space is very limited. The only possible representation for many of the functions on the device is solely graphical. As the result of all of these things, be ready for a learning curve on this one. It is going to take several uses, likely a pass or two through the user manual, and (if you’re like me), a couple of youtube videos from talented creators to get you to understand the advanced functionality. I do feel like we’ve got a handle on most features now, but we are learning more all the time – even a few weeks out. If you are buying for a novice or intermediate hobbyist, this device is going to be great for them. Happy Hunting! Fair price: Knowing the quality of the product, I would have paid $300 for it, $50 more than we paid.

Happy with item, customer service was very good too with very fast responses, 5* though I would make only one note: after checkout you get a notification saying you might be asked to pay customs tax as it’s imported from Portugal, and that if you are the seller will compensate you 50% of the fee amount and you pay the other half, I was not charged anything additional and so I don’t know what amount this tax would be but I thought I’d make mention of it as you aren’t told this until after you checkout, not something that warrants stars being deducted, as I’m sure the order could be cancelled if you weren’t happy with this since the sellers very responsive, no complaints overall!
