Nice MMDVM_HS_HAT board for your next hotspot project. Works great with WPSD right out of the box!
I used the MMDVM Hotspot Board (V1.5.2) with a Raspberry Pi 3B+ board and have been very pleased with it. I am using WPSD for the first time and it recognized the board as "MMDVM_HS_HAT-v1.5.2" when I selected the hardware option as "MMDVM_HS_HAT (DBM9MAT & DF2ET) for Pi GPIO". The WPSD software was easy to configure and it was not necessary to update the board to firmware v1.6.1 to get full functionality. The LCD screen is very clear and easy to read and the LCD screen responded perfectly to all the WPSD software settings that control it. I would highly recommend this MMDVM board for anyone looking for a well designed and high quality board that is very compatible with the latest software. It is stable with very low BER and has run reliably for me from day one. Highly recommended!

Good product
Got my hotspot running first try. Radio was a pain to program until I got the hang of it. Have already made multiple contacts and really put this through its paces. Used for a couple months but only time will tell about longevity. Would recommend buying a hotspot like this with pins already attached. Connected easily to raspberry pi 4b and will also for a zero with same pins. Very versatile. Small but powerful.

I highly recommend these modems!
I've been building hotspots for myself & others for almost 5 years now. If you are wanting to set up a hotspot on a budget, these modems cannot be beat. ZUMspot boards can no longer be bought by themselves (must be purchased as a complete unit), and the LoneStar boards are often out of stock via that vendor. These units work just as well at almost half the price, and come ready to operate with no offset correction needed. I've purchased numerous models with the OLED already attached, and they also sell a version with no display at all (you use those for building a larger hotspot that have Nextion LCD display screens). I've only ever had ONE unit show up bad from Aursinc, and they processed an exchange for me in less than 24 hours.

Works well with Yaesu FT-70D but this is not a system for the feint of heart
I am an amateur extra class ham of 35 years and an electrical engineer and wanted to connect to the YSF and DMR networks using a Yaesu HT. The board worked as advertised but you may have a steep learning curve into the world of digital hotspots (I did). Be ready to spend time on the Internet reading and watching YouTube videos to get connected once you have assembled your hotspot. Mated this MMDVM Hotspot Board with an older Raspberry Pi 3B (1 GB) that I had laying around. Downloaded the PiStar Pi OS image and followed the instructions to setup and configure. No problems getting it to operate, and it worked with my Yaesu FT-70D on UHF in YSF mode. Activated YSF2DMR mode then I could connect to DMR groups using my Yaesu HT. Bought a Raspberry Pi Zumspot plastic case ZRPi-1AS from C4Labs and it fit perfectly. Note: getting connected to digital networks using this hotspot was not "plug and play" easy for me; even though it worked I spent many hours fiddling with setting and searching the Internet for help getting my YSF-capable radio to talk on the DMR network. Little things like: when you finally do connect to a DMR group you have to press the radio's PTT momentarily to make the hotspot register the connection and allow you to hear the DMR group conversations. This fact was not documented anywhere that I could find. But now that I got through all that it is a joy to use. Another note: The OLED display on this board is "OLED Type 3" in the PiStar configuration menu.

Almost returned it
I couldn’t get it to work on a Raspberry 4 running WPSD Software. It ships with 2 connectors that are double-male - pins on both sides - luckily I had a fan hat (double female) that I installed between the board and the MMDVM which allowed me to shear the 2 pins as specified in the product description - this provided the fix. The Pi-Star references and the web site information in the supplied instructions are no longer relevant, as Pi-Star is no longer a viable program. The unit now works correctly and I enjoy using it.
