D'Addario XL Half Rounds Bass Strings ENR71-5, 45-130, 5-String

I put these on my main gigging bass, a Harley Benton Enhanced MP-5MN, because I was getting a lot of finger buzz. These strings feel great! No more buzz from sliding up the neck. They’re not as bright sounding as roundwounds but not dull like some flatwounds, either. These are a great middle ground for anyone like myself who only previously played roundwounds.

Love these strings! Made my sound like a new and different instrument. More P bassy sound and super smooth feel. I was thinking of getting a fretless before, but now with these strings (and medium to small size frets), I have a smooth feel and versatile sound. Can't say how much they differ from full-on flatwounds, but these are fine with me. I put them on my 6 string and am very happy with sound of chords, as well....

Love these strings. They are so easy on the fingers and have a great sound. In the past, I left strings on my bass too long and got these as a replacement. Man, did they bring the instrument to life. About four months after getting them, I had the bass worked over with a setup and adjustments and string changes. Used these again. Hard to imagine (right now) that I'll go with something different. They really are bang on for my church gig and are acceptable for my nostalgia gig. To be honest, they are bit bright for the 1940's/50's jazz standards we do, but I take a little off the top and all is good.

I play a '96 Fender American Deluxe 5-string Jazz Bass, and in the 10+ years that I've been playing, these are the perfect strings for the sound that I want. After several years of using nickel wounds, I tried a set of D'Addario flat wounds. While I could tell an improvement, something was still missing. I've played through Peavey, Hartke, Gallien-Krueger, and Fender amps, and none of them could quite make up for what was missing in the strings. I like to have a sound that's bright and clear without losing any low end (especially on the low B), and these strings definitely didn't disappoint. They're the perfect blend of the clarity and treble of nickel wound strings and the bass/mids of flat wound strings (not to mention they are easy on the frets like flat wounds). They could easily go from Gospel to rock to r&b to blues to funk all in the same set and not skip a beat. These will be the only set of strings that I use from here on out. A must buy for those who want a solid and balanced sound!

I was having some problems with dead spots on my bass when playing. To rule out the strings being a problem, I put these on and loved the sound, but it didn't help my problem. I had them on for about a month and then took my bass to the shop for adjustments. He fixed my issues, but the tech noticed some corrosion on the 3rd string. It still played ok, but I noticed that the 1st string sounded pretty lifeless. I emailed D'Addario about this and two days later a new set of strings appeared on my doorstep. I haven't had an opportunity to put these new strings on yet to see how these perform, but I gave them four stars based on the customer service.

I’m a touring multi-instrumentalist, and I’ve carried multiple basses for years with both round wound and flat wound strings for different styles. I’ve been trying to streamline my touring rig as I get older and break it down to one bass that can do all the things, and finding these half-rounds has made it so I can play jazz, hip hop, rock and country all on the same strings. They’ve got the smooth zip of jazzy flats when you roll off the highs, and the aggressive bite of rock rounds with the treble cranked. Def the most versatile set of bass strings I’ve bought, my new standbys.

These strings have the attack of a round wound string but are smooth on the fingers. I do a lot of glides on the bass and this does away with the cheese grater effect on the fingertips when playing that way. I would also suggest these for anyone starting out on bass as it gives a really good sound. I have been looking for a set of strings that my buddy got me many years ago, it was a set of bass strings that had tape between the rounds of the string. The tape did not cover the complete string and it made the movement up and down the neck real comfy.

Great strings! The half round construction of these strings give them a nice smooth comfortable playing surface, similar to tape wound strings. The nickel steel make up are more visible to the pick ups than traditional tape wounds, so they sound slightly brighter sounding than flat wounds and not as muddy. If you don't like the feel of flat wounds, you won't like these. If you want that super bright "piano sound", these are not for you. If you want a smooth comfortable string, with a somewhat warm jazzy sound, I recommend them.

D'Addario ENR71-5 Half Round 5-String Bass - I purchased these because 1) Local shops didn't have the 5 string packs, they would sell me 4 with a 5th separate string and charge a fortune for the 1 string. Thankfully I was able to find the 5 string pack on Amazon! I bought these for my 5 string fretless, I was debating to get these or go for the full flats. I don't like the feel of the flats myself, so these fit the bill perfectly! They have the nice 'thump' of flats, while at the same time remaining bright and feel closer to round wounds. They have a nice grip to them, some people don't like that, but I do! I will buy these again and again!

Cuerdas excelentes. Tienen el mismo sonido brillante que las cuerdas de entorchado redondo, pero un tacto más suave, que hace que se produzca menor ruido del roce de los dedos. Desde que las tengo no paro de tocar. El servicio de Amazon excelente, no me llegaron en el tiempo previsto y al reclamar me mandaron otro juego sin coste. Ese segundo juego me llegó en plazo.

Muy bien sonido, súper suaves al tacto, aunque tienen mucha tensión para mí.
