Ive done genealogy research for 20+ years so its great to have a method to store information and not fill up my hard drive. The 8GB are also good for providing to anyone whose genealogy Ive done.

Pretty happy with these. For the money they do the job I need. Seem to transfer fast. Haven't had any corrumption issues like the last bundle I bought. Would buy again.

I purchased 10 of these 8 GB USB drives and tested every one with H2testw using a complete write-and-verify test across the advertised capacity. All 10 passed with zero errors. Windows reports approximately 7.5 GiB per drive, which is normal for an 8 GB device, and all of that advertised storage successfully wrote and verified. Out of curiosity, I went a little further and checked what hardware was actually inside them. They use ChipsBank USB controllers, and ChipGenius identified the physical NAND as: 4 drives: 16 GB NAND 2 drives: 32 GB NAND 4 drives: 64 GB NAND So apparently none of my 10 drives actually contain only 8 GB of physical NAND. That sent me down quite a rabbit hole. These aren't drives where you can simply repartition them and get the additional space. The ChipsBank controller itself is configured to present only 8 GB to the computer. Accessing additional NAND would require obtaining the appropriate ChipsBank manufacturing/MPTool, determining the correct NAND/controller parameters, putting the controller into its manufacturing/edit mode, and reprogramming its configuration. At that point there is also a real possibility of making the drive unusable if the controller is programmed incorrectly. More importantly, there may be a good reason these larger NAND chips were limited to 8 GB in the first place. They could be surplus, reclaimed, binned, partially defective, or simply inexpensive mixed inventory. I decided that potentially bricking working drives just to find out wasn't worth it. So I have NOT verified that the additional physical NAND is usable, and buyers should consider these 8 GB drives—not secretly 16/32/64 GB drives. The strange part is the manufacturing. Ten identical 8 GB products contained a mixture of 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB NAND, all configured down to the same 8 GB capacity. For what they were actually sold as, though, mine performed correctly: 10 out of 10 passed a complete H2testw test at the advertised 8 GB capacity. Interesting hardware, unusual manufacturing, but ultimately they delivered the storage capacity I paid for.
