The illustrations by Sendak are mesmerizing. They were from his sweet period, not his creepy monster period. Dusk/evening are beautifully painted. The story is charming. Very nostalgic childhood book for me. I occasionally buy it for friends.

This book verges on the disturbing for me. But that is because of the times we live in. Rabbit makes suggestions for mom's present. Some of his suggestions raised my eyebrow. 😂 That said, this is a much loved story book around the world.

Some people find this story slow. There is a lot of repetition, but because of that, my two year old listener loves it. She adores the pictures which, having been done by Maurice Sendak, are fabulous. It's just a little girl who is trying to figure out what to give her mother. Mr. Rabbit tries very hard to be helpful. What do you think they come up with?

This was one of my favorite picture books as a child. Every child can relate to wanting to give a perfect gift to his or her mother for her birthday, and yet without having money. Sendak's illustrations are softer and dreamier here than they are in his more well-known books, which goes well with the dream-like quality of the story.I am giving this copy to my niece for a Christmas present. I hope she enjoys it as much as I did.

My daughter received this book in her Easter basket and she absolutely loves it! It is a very cute story that keeps my five year old's attention and has her begging me to read it again. My cousin recommended this book, remembering it from her childhood 20+ years ago. This book would also be a great story to incorporate into an art teachers lesson. It talks about colors and could have endless possibilities in the classroom.

I love this book. I had it as a child but lost it in a fire. Teaches children thoughtfulness in away that’s easily understood. The pictures are stunning.

This is a book which my children enjoyed very much so I have bought it for many other small children. The illustrations are charming .

My children loved this story two and a half decades ago. I am still buying it as a children's gift whenever I find a child who does not know the book - and it never disappoints. A classic.

A book enjoyed in the past, and searched for unsuccessfully over the years. Now at last I have my own copy.

I was expecting a whimsical classic for children and instead I got a redundantly-written and creepily-illustrated book with not much of a story line to it. This was a very disappointing purchase. Save your money and buy your kids The Velveteen Rabbit.
