2013 release from the Reggae veteran. Alpha Blondy, who is from the Ivory Coast, sings mostly in his native language of Dioula, French, English, sometimes Arabic or Hebrew. His lyrics convey serious political attitudes and a sense of humor.

Still Inspired After These Many Years
I am impressed with Alpha Blondy. I have been listening to his music from his beginning years. Many artists wear out after a while, but he still has good songs and thoughtful rhythms. His music has improved over the years. Some time to time, Alpha Blondy has a way to change producers (and arrangers). I mostly love his music and his voice when he sings in native African languages (probably because I don't understand what he is saying in those songs; unfortunately I find most of his songs in French stupid, trying to be politically correct and trying to please everybody). Other than that, once again this album proves that Alpha is highly gifted.

Defective CD
I love the CD, My problem is some of the tracks (11,12 and 13) are skipping. i am sure that can be fixed ,but otherwise this is a job well done by Alpha and i am glad he is healthy and feeling much better. Welcome back Alpha.

This is great reggae. Alpha Blondy is at his best on this CD and his band is superb, U-Roy and AnthonynB and the other guests add to it.

Another Superb Album
Alpha Blondy's latest album, "Mystic Power," is much in line with his previous works. Driving guitars. Conscious lyrics. Bouncy rhythms. Horns. Alpha sings about a wide range of topics on the album -- civil war, importance of women, religion, philosophy, etc. The opening track (Hope) is of particular interest in that it deviates a bit from the past work of Alpha Blondy. It is a great dancehall-style tune done with Beenie Man. "Hope" flat-out rocks and sets the tone for the rest of the album. There is simply not a weak track among the 14 songs. I'm typically not much of a fan of artists trying to cover songs of Bob Marley. They usually come nowhere close to doing justice to the original. However, Alpha's "J'ai Tue le Commissaire" (I Shot the Sheriff) is very solid. It needs to be noted that one of the songs, "Reconciliation," is a duet between Alpha and another excellent reggae artist from Cote d'Ivoire -- Tiken Jah Fakoly. There are some beautiful vocals from a female vocalist in the song as well. What a treat! I could literally go track by track and talk about how awesome they all are.In conclusion, "Mystic Power" should not be passed over by fans of rootsy rocking reggae. Alpha Blondy has a wonderful voice to complement his thought-provoking lyrics. Basically Alpha Blondy does not release anything but good albums, but this one is one of his best.
