Can this machine be supplied with tapered spindles? I use a thick felt mop to polish on the side, so need to use a tapered spindle

Clarke do not do this polisher with spindles. The thread is 16mm if you can fid a spindle.

Can you fit a wire wheel to this for removing rust/paint?

I would not. Clarke do a wire wheel and grinder machine. Different speeds and guards i suspect

is this suitable for polishing scratched SS cutlery and does it need bolting down? thanks

Clarke have advised - Ideally it would need to be bolted down or clamp down yes this would be suitable for removing scratches providing they are not very deep scratches.

Could you fig a grinding wheel to one side?.

Careful!! Grinding wheels are subject to strict speed limits and can deteriorate if the revs are exceeded. The maximum speed of the machine must not be greater than the speed stated on the grinding wheel. Sorry to be negative but it is very dangerous. In addition, this polisher does not come with safety guards or work rests fitted as they would be on a bench grinder. Further, a heavy grinding wheel, even if it was within it's speed limit and you risked using it with out work rests and guards, would throw the whole machine out of balance especially if you only fitted one wheel. This is because it is much heavier than a polishing mop wheel and maybe going too fast. In short, NO, don't do it. It is far too dangerous for the reasons stated and does not make economic sense to make safe. Buy a proper bench grinder or a heavy duty angle grinder. The right wheels or discs and gloves, safety clothing and glasses and stay safe, keep your eyesight and all your fingers. As a polisher, with polishing mops fitted it is a quiet, powerful and useful tool. Mount firmly on a sturdy bench, near the edge with good bolts and enjoy many hours of productive fun.

Excellent British product

Good quality. No apparent limit on runtime - used for 60 minutes continuous and under heavy load. Extremely smooth shaft bearings. Should last a long time. Hard to find stock though... I upgraded the end nuts (reverse thread) to stainless end caps, but that's just aesthetics.
