Wow---these really ARE comfortable!
Wow---these really ARE comfortable....and light!I researched a LOT of hiking boots before choosing these. Firstly, I've always been impressed with Merrell products, but had mostly bought them for my husband. So Merrell was my first go-to brand choice for boots for myself this time, and glad I did! I wanted a boot that fits the purposes of light-day hiking, has good traction in all terrain, can be worn while riding a mountain bike, is waterproof, and NOT so big and clompy-clunky that it feels like I'm wearing cinder blocks on my feet like some hiking boots can feel like. These are something I can wear to fit all those needs, as well as be boots I'll wear casually. Can't wait for our trip to the PNW to give them a workout for all the tough-n-tumble stuff! But I'll be wearing them in the meantime for everyday, too! I really love the "Black" pair I got....but now I sorta want the "Dark Earth" ones as well! :)

Too small?
I'm a size 7 in "literally" every shoe/boot except this boot I needed a 6.5. Got 1 blister on my heel on my 11 mile hike but otherwise a great boot! I loved the experience & look

Perfect All Purpose
So at first I tried this boot on with my thin low ankle socks that I normally wear, they seems a bit loose and rubbed my ankles. But when I got home I tried them on with a slightly thicker athletic sock that came up around my ankle. It made a huge difference. There also seems to be a divide as to what these boots are, are they good for hiking? are they casual and stylish? I contacted Merrel directly and this is there response..."to Clarify, the style in question is considered an active lifestyle shoe. It is more comfort casual rather than performance specific, but it should certainly be okay for some basic day hiking as well as general purpose wear." I will absolutely wearing these boots to do some hiking and to trek around town in. I bought them specifically to take on my trip to seattle... You can't go wrong with these, theyre comfortable, theyre leather so you know theyll be durable, but keep in mind that because they are leather your should take the time to break them in and they probably wont work for long backpacking trips. If it also helps, I chose these over another hiking boot made by northface called the enduras, those were a nice fit, more like a running shoe and were light, but were far too bulky for me.

Best shoes I own
These are incredibly comfortable, incredibly warm and incredibly cute! The grip on the bottom of the shoe is the best grip I've experienced on a shoe, ever. The first time I put them on my foot, I literally said, "wow, these are comfortable." Quite honestly, they're more comfortable than my slippers. They are true to size and look just like the picture. They feel like they'll last me quite a while, even with me wearing them to death but I'll try and keep you all in the loop.

Comfortable & fashionable
for the most part, these fit true to size. However they may seem slightly loose since the laces are unable to tighten the shoe with the way the tongue is. It is on the outside. Difficult to explain, but nothing that a nice thick wool sock can't fix! All in all... Love this shoe. Very comfortable, and very fashionable which is what I was going for. Not your typical ugly hiking shoe. And surprisingly it is water proof and very easy to clean. I love them!

These are so awesome and cute I bought another color
Really really love these! I bought them in this black color and loved how good they looked I didn't want to trash them hiking so I got the brown w/ the bungie cord laces for actually hiking. I love that they are water proof and durable, they looked so cute with my casual look of skinny jeans I want to wear them as everyday boots so I will. They are fairly lightweight as far a hiking shoes go. Very easy to break in, no problems but haven't gotten to take them to the trails yet so I can't speak on that behalf. However, I did a LOT of walking around in them and wearing them for 12hrs a day at work and they were very comfortable. I will do a review on the other color I bought when I actually take them hiking.

They're awesome but I'm trying to find the best way to ...
I haven't worn them out yet, only around the house to break them in. They are a little snug across the ball of the foot. They're awesome but I'm trying to find the best way to protect them from the corrosive ice melt they put all over the sidewalks here before I wear them out. Also, I'm throwing some red laces in them bc I read "Wild" this semester and can't afford Danner boots lol....UPDATE: A year later and I love these boots! Comfy, supportive, warm...although I do not wear them in more than an inch or so of snow so idk how waterproof they are. I've had no issues w wet feet

Previous reviews comment about the narrow fit and it is ...
Previous reviews comment about the narrow fit and it is really true. The fit is very narrow especially across the ball of the foot. I have never needed a wide sized shoe before, but this is the exception. Had to return. May try it again with wider size. Other than that they seemed well constructed and supportive.
