Beautifully illustrated silent graphic novel. Highly recommended for anyone who's into Visual narratives . It has a vintage old look ( wrinkleed pages, stains, stretched leather) that gives a feeling of owning a piece of a world that was in the past yet the narrative is beyond its time. Your pre conceived notions on immigration will have a different perspective. The nature of it being a silent graphic novel, gives the readers an experience of being in an unsettling, unfamiliar, and strange place and struggling to communicate without the aid of any language.

What is life if we cant experience art of this much quality at least once? Then we suddenly understand yes, these beautiful art moments make life worth living it. The story depicted in this book tries to define a life that has seen and met other lives which went through misery, hardships, poverty and even downright horror, but what makes those lives still worth living for... What an artist Shaun tan is, while giving the account of few of those lives, he takes you through the immigration history, being a newcomer in a place full of strange cultures, humanity, friendship, companionship, family but ultimately our own isolation, day to day adventures and simple joys of life. And all this achieved not even using one word but with breathtaking illustrations. Don't miss this book. Cant stop reading all over again many times.

The black and white sheer poetry of this comic book, without dialogs, make it a good gift for anyone exept blind people, and of course people of other langages. It's about the arrival in a new place, cultutral diversity and integration, and full of nice pets ! La poésie en noir et blanc de cette bande dessinée sans dialogues en fait un un bon cadeau pour tout le monde (sauf les aveugle) y compris pour des gens parlant un autre langage. Le sujet en l'arrivée en terre étrangère, la diversité des culture et l'intégration, et c'est plein d'animaux domestiques mignons !
