Take your time and you’ll get beautiful results!
I wanted to create my own custom Sailor Moon themed switch so when I found this pastel pink kit I was so happy(stickers were purchased by me on Etsy). I’m super impressed with the quality and the finished look. I also purchased the white button kit from them. My experience with installation was very good. I had no issues whatsoever. So with that in mind here are a few tips: 1. Use your own tools. Yes, the kit comes with the screwdrivers you will need. But they’re not very good. You can get a set of small screwdrivers, as well as the special Nintendo screwdriver right here on amazon. You will need the “switch screwdriver” as well as a ph000 screwdriver. I cannot stress this enough. Using the ones that come with the kit will very easily strip the screws as you’re trying to get them out. 1a. While on the topic of screws, pay attention to the screws you’re are removing and make sure you’re using the correct screwdriver. Some are “y” shaped. These will require the special Nintendo screwdriver. 2. TAKE YOUR TIME. This is not a quick project. If you’re in a rush to get it done, you will make mistakes and possibly damage something. This requires a patient and delicate hand. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE JOYCON SCREWS as you’re putting it back together. This could not only damage the delicate parts inside but also mess with button function. 2a. If you do strip a screw the tiniest bit, but you manage to get it out DO NOT reuse that screw. Replace it with one of the screws from the kit. 3. FOLLOW THEIR VIDEO. The video is very detailed and well done. My suggestion here is to change the playback speed of the video to .5x. At original speed it’s a bit too fast to follow. I paused after each step to make sure I was doing it correctly. If possible watch the video before you even begin just to get a feel for the whole process, then begin your installation. 4. Pay attention to the screws as you are removing them. There are many different lengths used. I used little paper cups to put the screws in as I removed them step by step. So I had several little cups to keep the screws I removed sorted. 5. Some screws might give you a little bit of a fight. BE PATIENT WITH THESE. Nintendo doesn’t want you getting up in there so some of the screws have what looks like a tiny bit of tread glue. So you’ll have to “break the seal”. Again, be patient and careful. The last thing you want is a stripped screw as you’re trying to remove parts. This is where having proper screwdrivers will come into play. 5a. This also goes for some of the internal parts of the JOYCON that will need to be removed. For example, the little vibration element is taped down, as well as the battery. It’s not hard to remove them at all. Just be aware that they are taped down. 6. Get a good pair of tweezers! This was insanely helpful. Not only in disconnecting the ribbon cables, but also in getting out and putting some of the smaller buttons back in. This last one is about the casing itself. Because of the satin/matte finish the casing could very easily get dirty or scuffed. I opted to purchase a clear protective shell to ensure neither of those things happen. I also knew I’d be adding stickers so I wanted to keep those clean and safe as well. Personally, I like the look of the clear protective shell. **EDIT** MAKE SURE TO READ THE DESCRIPTION ON THEIR INSTALL VIDEO. THEY MADE A SMALL MISTAKE IN THE VIDEO WITH THE ZR BUTTON RIBBON AND THEY CLARIFIED THIS IN THE DESCRIPTION OF THE VIDEO** I think that is about it. I’m very happy with my purchase and the final result.

⚠️ IF YOU HAVE THE NEWER VERSION SWITCH, READ THIS ⚠️
This product is wonderful and SUPER easy to apply! The smooth casing is so soft to the touch and the color (I got Sakura Pink) is beautiful! It is slightly a darker shade and on my left joycon, one area is sliiiightly misaligned but but that's my OCD. Tips for the newer model: ❌ YOU DONT HAVE TO REMOVE EVERY SCREW. When replacing the back of the switch, you dont need to unscrew the 5 black screws where the joycons slide in! Save yourself stress and stripping them (like I did) by just leaving the sides alone. ✅ BUY A DIFFERENT Y-SCREWDRIVER. I cant stress this enough. The one it came with is not adequate. I stripped at least 4 screws and had to use the replacements they send you. I got one for $5 on Amazon. SPEND THAT EXTRA MONEY. With the new one, I was easily able to remove screws. ✅ KEEP AN EYE ON WHERE YOUR SCREWS GO. They are so many sizes and it's hard to keep track. I drew out a map of where to put them since I didn't want to not know where one goes. ✅ DONT BE AFRAID TO PULL UP THE BATTERY OR THE SENSOR AREA ON THE BOTTOM OF THE RIGHT JOYCON. There is strong tape there and all you have to do is put some gentle muscle into it. I was afriad of breaking anything so I went particularly slow. You dont have to go snails pace, but just be careful for the wires. ❌ DONT JUST GO WITHOUT DOUBLE CHECKING WHERE YOU REPLACE EVERYTHING. I did at ome point on the joycon and something came loose. The buttons are hard to get to stay at times and if something feels not 100% secure, DOUBLE CHECK. These are just tips and honestly, I didnt use any tutorial or video to put mine on. I'm not a mechanic, but common sense and keeping track of what you take apart is all you need. Watching the video for a second made things more stressful (and made me remove screws I didnt have to) then just working on it myself. Be observant, inspect what goes where, and expect AT LEAST 2 HOURS of working on it. I did it slowly over 2 days and the results came out beautiful! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ P.S. The white buttons I purchase from the same company here on Amazon and they are PERFECT!

Great so far! A few more installation tips below...
I just installed it today and so far I'm really impressed. The quality is great but I'll update this if I ever notice any discoloration or other issues. I also didn't use the included buttons, more out of personal preference. The included ones look fine though. Consider buying another button set color before you disassemble it. After you install one, you probably won't want to do it again. A few tips I'm not sure I've seen others mention yet... - Set aside a bright space and some time to work. It can take 1-5 hours depending on your tech savviness and how delicate you can be. - Watch the youtube video once all the way through at 2x speed just to see the process, then watch it slower and pause step by step as you go. It's not hard but it's tedious, so you should know what you're getting into. - Keep track of where each screw goes, and then make sure to use the same size from the new kit. I accidentally used too long of a screw in a joycon and I made a small bump on the front surface. Much farther and it would have been a hole. - I don't think the included screwdriver was bad, the real issue is the Switch's original screws, especially on the back plate of the switch body. But it helped having a second magnetic precision screwdriver set because you'll be switching back and forth between phillips and tri wing a lot as you disassemble it. I used my own Y0 screwdriver for the trickier ones, with a rubber band. - Use a wide rubber band between the tri tip screw and screwdriver to give it more to bite onto. Don't wait until you already started stripping it, do this for every screw. Trust me. - Test buttons as you put it back together, not only at the end, to make sure they're aligned correctly. I had problems with this a few times. The same goes for docking the joycons on the body; I had the release button turned 90° and it didn't lock correctly. - Since the shell holes aren't threaded, don't overtighten them. When screwing directly into the shell, turn it just until you start to feel a little more resistance. Do what you can to avoid unscrewing and rescrewing in the same spot, because it's easy to strip the plastic. - Last, squeeze the joycon shell together before you set the last 4 screws to make sure things are aligned, especially the ZR/ZL and any stray ribbon cables. (don't force it!)

Buy a different screwdriver set!!
Installation was a PITA. I'm not exactly the most coordinated so of course I broke a few ribbon cables, stripped a few screws, and learned many lessons. I ordered two new joycon shells from the same company in the same color as once I put everything together, things weren't working right, and that's when the screws stripped on me, so I had to break the original back shells that I ordered from here to pieces to get the inners out and swap them over to the new shells. Not for the faint of heart or the impatient. Definitely watch their video a few times before untightening the first screw, and then follow along, pausing as necessary (because they're pro's at it already and this is likely the first or second time you are doing something as wild as changing colors out). But I finally (FINALLY) after a few slow and patient weeks of ordering parts because of what a failure I am, they're together, working properly, and the (new) screws are fabulous. I don't plan on ever doing this again, hahahahaha. Once is enough for me. But at least I know how to repair my joycons in the event they break or there's something funky via drifting. I also know now that all the parts and pieces of a joycon can be bought online. You can almost assemble your own joycon. They're really pretty, the lavendar-purple-violet color. Purple is my favorite color, which is why I wanted to customize my Switch in this color. I got it decked out, protected, etc. It's my favorite console I have ever owned in my entire life (I had the original black and white gameboy and worked my way up to this snazzy thing!). I'm rating this 4.5 stars out of 5, but there's no half stars, so 4. It wasn't the products fault that I suck at using my hands to repair/replace things. Definitely get a better screwdriver set than the one that comes in the box. That docked it .5 stars because it likes to strip those Y screws very easily. Definitely replace those Y screws when you get the chance to because you may not be able to open the joycon ever again after screwing them back in and will have to break the shell to fix anything (don't make the same mistake as me!!). They are very soft screws. I tried so hard to get the screws out, but alas, they turned into beautiful circles. Ordered one of those mini screw kits off on Amazon and they work better. Prep for this thing, as it will take several hours to get it undone and put back together if you don't do this for a living or tinker for fun. If someone has more skill and steadier hands than you, have them replace the shells.

Love it! Very happy with my purchase!
This product is exactly what I had imagined it to be! The soft touch is a significant step up from Nintendo's original cold, smooth shell that gathered fingerprints and hand oils way too well. This shell is easier to hold onto, and is basically just a joy to have in my hands. I love the light pastel pink and have even purchased additional sakura covers for my joysticks and a sakura pink case to match! I'm ordering a clear case to put over it in order to slow down the shell wearing down overtime/protect it from outside debris, dirty grabby hands (I have younger cousins and siblings who sometimes borrow my switch lol), and overall to just keep this shell safe! I love it too much. It took me around four to five-ish hours to disassemble my original switch and put in the new sakura shell. While my heart was beating a mile a minute as I disassembled and I was super anxious (and worried I'd ruin the inner contents of my switch by accident and make it unable to work), I realized it wasn't all as bad as I thought it would be. The screwdriver that came with the ExtremeRate shell wasn't too good (it was just a screwdriver handle with two separate screws to put in and switch out), so I purchased Younik's Nintendo Screwdriver set and everything was all good! Younik's set came with multiple magnetic screwdrivers of different sizes, picks, pliers, and many other handy stuff an amateur like me needed. With the right tools, patience, and pressure, the screws are all able to be taken out with ease (for those who want to purchase their own screwdrivers, get a Y00 and a Y2.0 triwing screwdriver and a 2.0 Phillip's screwdriver. I hardly used the Y2.0 triwing, but it helped whenever I got close to stripping screws). I frankly believe a lot of the stripped screws people are talking about are partly because of user error (not enough pressure used, impatience, or frustration) but then again, my switch didn't have any glued down screws or anything. At times I occasionally stripped some screws halfway, and this is when I'd refer to my Younik kit and use a larger screwdriver. Again, with enough pressure I was able to get out the stripped screws and put them back in again fine! When you're unscrewing and you fear you're starting down the path of stripping them, pause and take a deep breath and move on to another screw. This helped me multiple times when working on the back of my switch, as I didn't become frustrated and I didn't keep trying to do it while annoyed and possibly ruining it further. By the time I got back to the almost stripped screw, I had enough practice from the other screws and used what I learned to take this one out (again, use some pressure! At times I had to push a little hard!) Using ExtremeRates's youtube guide really helped me on this and I highly suggest using the video as you go, pausing and rewinding as much as you need. However, the video has a few things you might want to look out for: you don't have to unplug the ribbon cables at all! Simply unscrew everything, treat everything very gently and make sure nothing heavy (like the battery) weighs too heavily on the cables. One of my batteries and both of the white boxes beneath them were held down with tape, but gentle, slow prying got them out soon enough. Just make sure to know what you're pulling at when you're pulling, and make sure to do so slowly. Remember, it's better to spend a lot of time doing something right than it is to do something quickly and do it wrong. Regarding ExtremeRate's buttons, I wasn't too much of a fan of them. They had a louder clicking sound than Nintendo's original buttons, and the ZL/ZR buttons had the engraved letters really close together to the point that they touched and it looked like it said some weird hidden alphabet letter. Not only that, but the ZL and ZR buttons were too long/big and when I put the joycon shell on, it left a pretty significant gap that made it super easy to actually look inside my joycon from the outside/for things to someday get stuck inside. So I ended up using the original Nintendo buttons, which fit so much better and kept that light, soft clicking sound that I find so much more pleasing. I don't mind that the right joycon's buttons have white lettering, it actually is a lot easier for me to see them! Aside from that, this shell is amazing and I'm so happy with my purchase. Maybe one day when this shell wears out (I'm assuming it will after a few years, this is only natural!) I'll use another ExtremeRate shell!

So cute!
Full kit for a shell swap! My switch is so cute now! Shell swaps are pretty easily, a little less so on joycons, but I figured it out after some tinkering. Came with everything but the rubber backings to the buttons and the clip for the stand!

You get either discoloration OR a kickstand that breaks within a few gentle uses
Update, 6/14/2021: I purchased the translucent cherry pink color as the original sakura pink I had purchased in the original review below began to have a discolored kickstand after a few months. I had the entire switch in a clear case which protected everything else, but alas the kickstand didn't survive the inevitable discoloration that other reviews mentioned. I should have just replaced the kickstand with a black one and left everything else alone. This whole project has been a nightmare. The cherry pink shell looks great, it comes up on camera as a peachy color but in person it's a nice pretty pink. It doesn't have that soft-touch material that Extremerate uses which is prone to discoloration, hence the reason I bought the color I did. After installing the new shell and their white buttons for both my pro controller and switch, I used the kickstand all of maybe three times before the little pegs that hold it closed completely snapped off. Mind you, I am gentle with my technology and I am very aware that the kickstand is fragile to begin with. But this level of fragile is unacceptable. My sakura pink kickstand has NO issues opening and closing after a year of use, it's just discolored to the point of it looking nasty now. So dealing with the now barely-closed kickstand that comes open when you happen to brush your finger across the bottom, I also now deal with the buttons discoloring. (That review is an entirely different can of worms, but basically, don't buy anything of Extremerate's that is pastel or light colored.) Don't be fooled by the review picture here, those buttons weren't white for long. They discolored within a few hours of use and the photos here were taken after a fresh install. I presume the SL/SR shoulder straps will eventually discolor as well, since those are also the same texture as the buttons. My advice if you're going to purchase one of their shells/buttons, get a dark colored version, or the hard plastic ones such as the translucent or the iridescent ones. And don't expect your kickstand to survive from basic use, either. This review gets 3 stars because both shells do their job and everything fits together nicely. The sakura pink shell was sturdy and lasted me until I decided to change it a year later, but its discoloration docks a star. The cherry pink's immediately broken kickstand docks another star. ***ORIGINAL REVIEW: About the product: I purchased the sakura pink color, and I had to wait for it to be in stock again due to it being so popular. Definitely worth the wait, though! The color is beautiful and the plastic definitely does feel nicer than the stock Switch plastic, however I've put a case on mine to prevent any sort of paint chipping or yellowing that other reviews mention. I'm currently using the FYOUNG dockable clear case, available here on Amazon. If anyone's curious, the HEX code I used for changing the color of the joycons in the Switch's software is F4B6A5. About the install: I've never taken apart a Nintendo Switch before, and this process took me about two or three hours. I watched several videos beforehand while I waited for the shell to get here, and I must have learned something, since I had no issues taking apart the joycons or putting them back together. I highly recommend the tweezers that have a sharp, angled tip to help with this process as fingers are just too cumbersome to deal with such tiny ribbon cables and screws. The included screwdriver with two interchangeable tips wasn't bad, but I think that's due to my Switch being refurbished. I didn't have any issues unscrewing or stripping any of the screws, but your mileage may vary. Pros: Professional quality Beautiful color Precision fitting Everything finally matches and I no longer have neon red/blue joycons Very nice plastic, pleasing to touch and hold Cons: My only real "complaint" with this shell is that the SL/SR buttons and the middle plastic between the ZL/ZR and L/R buttons are not sakura pink in the same fashion that the neon red and blue joycons have neon red and blue in these places, respectively. However, I do understand that these areas are not major parts of the joycon, so I'm not docking any stars for that. It's just a minor personal preference that I can easily overlook because the included black parts go just fine with it as well. TL;DR: This shell is very high quality and worth the time and effort. Just go slow, keep your screws sorted (definitely don't over-tighten them), and you'll end up with a result that's gorgeous.

I love my "new" Switch!
A note about the eXtrameRate youtube tutorial: They walk you through how to remove the battery (and several other wires) from the motherboard as part of swapping out the shell. Unfortunately I ended up snapping the battery's connection completely, killing my left joycon. Then I learned that step was almost completely unnecessary, as a youtuber "Lily & Beba Play" have a joycon tutorial where they don't disconnect any of those wires. I recommend their video "How to Customize Joy-con Shells FOR DUMMIES (EASY) - eXtremeRate & Nintendo Switch". Ultimately, I love how this came out! The color is great, the quality is nice, and the extra screws and springs are very much appreciated. I found the kickstand was a little finnicky. I think the paint might have been a little over-sprayed and I was afraid I was going to break it the first few times I moved it. But eventually those bits of overspray broke off and the kick stand works properly now.

This Nintendo Switch replacement shell is perfect! The quality is top-notch—sturdy and well-made—and it completely transformed the look of my Switch. The installation was surprisingly easy, and the shell fit perfectly without any issues. It gives the console a fresh, sleek look while still offering good protection. I love the customization it provides and how it still maintains all the functionality of the original design. Highly recommend this shell for anyone looking to personalize their Switch or give it a new look!
