Edgerouter 4 Ethernet Lan Black Wired Router

I haven't read other reviews, but I'm sure that at least some mention that this is NOT a "4-port" router. One of the RJ45 ports is for a serial console, and the port labeled "ETH3" is a SFP fiber-optic port. I think you CAN get an Ethernet adapter for it separately. Unlike a typical four-port router, which has one WAN (Internet) port and four LAN (local) ports, you typically connect the WAN to the ETH0 port and your LAN to ETH1. By default, the ETH2 port is on a separate subnet - you can "bridge" these so that they are on the same subnet, but Ubiquiti recommends against this and suggests a separate switch.I was unable to get the initial setup to work using the instructions in the QuickStart guide. This has you either connect the ETH0 port to an existing network and connecting to the DHCP-assigned IP address, or connecting to ETH1 and using 192.168.1.1. Neither got a response from the router. The router did get a DHCP address, but then dropped it. I contacted Ubiquiti support and was instead pointed to a community forum post (!) with a different set of instructions (involving configuring a PC with a static address in the 192.168.1.x subnet other than .1 and connecting to ETH1. This worked.The graphical user interface looks nice and it got me most of the way to what I wanted (not complicated). However, for full control you need to use a command line interface that is not well-documented - I found that most of Ubiquiti's "knowledge base" articles omitted key commands and ran you in circles chasing links with, supposedly, more details. Again, the community forum tended to have the best answers. I could not get port forwarding to work without the command line interface. Be aware that if your ISP uses PPPoE, as some fiber providers do, that you will need to specify PPPOE0 instead of ETH0 in rules.If you're intending to run wireless access points, you might be better off with the Unifi Dream Machine Pro, but the EdgeRouter 4 fills my need perfectly.Once I got everything set, it works beautifully and extracts the maximum performance from my gigabit fiber ISP connection. There's lots of visibility into what ports are doing, with optional traffic analysis.

After a factory reset from the previous user's setup, a firmware update to the latest version, I programmed in my network's parameters and the router worked as designed.

I have 2 ISP's due to Spectrum going out everytime it rains, so had to have a backup ISP. Had 2 wireless networks set up one for each ISP which was a pain and not ideal. Bought this product due to its dual wan capability. Was a little hard to get connected at first, but once I did I was able to easily set up the 2 wan config with load balancing. Was able to just plug in google nest mesh router and that was it. Great product.

I bought this to get better throughput. It works great for gigabit speeds (averages 900+ mbps). Does not work like a standard consumer router, you have to practically set up all the ports manually with multiple screens to configure. Once setup, no complaints, works solid. FYI, if using for wan/lan, you only get 3 LAN, 1 WAN, but can configure any port for WAN or LAN. The port on the right does require an adaptor module (optical or lan, look if they are compatible, some are not) The console port is not needed, as it has a web interface, so no need for a console cable. Only little complaint, it does run pretty warm, I use a USB fan hooked to its USB port to keep it cool.I highly recommend for advance users for any gigabit connections (Cable/Fiber optic).

Easy setup! Now getting the most out of my ISP. Great router!

I tried the EdgeRouter Lite prior. It crashed 2 hours after installation. Returned it and got the EdgeRouter 4. Very impressed so far. Double the memory, double the processors, speed is SIGNIFICANTLY faster and more stable. Running in failover mode with a GB fiber connection and a cable modem as backup. Getting over a GB on speed tests without any issues. For 50 dollars difference in price the 4 is significantly more router.

these little routers are inexpensive but very powerful. They have many of the same features the high-end expensive gear like Cisco has.you can do your basic configurations via a gooey. If you want to get more in-depth you can go command line as I did as I put in QoS settings and blocked P2P traffic. Only thing I'm waiting on now is to test it with high volume traffic - my goal is to get full 1 gigabit-per-second throughput on this box while using these policies without overwhelming the CPU.

I spent days trying to make this alluring device work in what should have been a simple drop-in replacement for an out-of-life Netgear router in a totally basic, straightforward home network. Turns out, the problem is that the Edgerouter 4 cannot get WAN side DHCP config from Xfinity with an Arris Surfboard S33 DOCSIS 3.1 modem, no matter what you do. Yes, even though the deprecated router worked fine with the Arris S33 in the exact same setup. Not sure which device to blame, but I really wanted to keep the Edgerouter 4 due to its incredible NAT throughput. So, the problem was fixed by replacing the S33 with a DOCSIS 3.1 modem from a manufacturer other than Arris. So just beware of possible DHCP incompatibility on the WAN side if you have an Arris modem in a simple DOCSIS 3 cable setup.

Brought to upgrade an Edgerouter 3 Lite which I use for a number of my customers as well as my own network. Also purchased the rack mount kit and an a SFP module so I had access to a 4th network connection.Quality is a good, which is what I have come to expect using Ubiquiti over the last couple of years.Having an internal power supply is a good plus against the ER LiteDoes seem a lot faster using the web interface than the ER lite and didn't have any problems setting it upShould be getting a gigabit connection in a few months so will be taxing it a lot more then

Als mein ERLite-3 nach 5 Jahre intensive Arbeit kaputt gegangen war bräuchte ich einen Ersatz.Der Wahl war entweder bei der Edgerouter Serie zu bleiben oder auf einem USG um zu steigen.Der GUI vom USG is schöner, aber der Umstieg auf einen Edgerouter war in meinem Fall leichter.Dazu ist der ER4 neuer und kräftiger als der USG pro. Der normale USG ist nicht kräftig genug für VPN, QoS und IPSec mit bis 50 User (Ferienwohnungen Vermieter).ER4 einstecken, alte ERL-3 config hochladen und wir waren wieder in Betrieb.

Tenía un router de Ubiquiti, concretamente el EdgeRouter Lite 3 que me ha durado 7 años y medio y, finalmente, se ha estropeado.Ahora lo he sustituido por el EdgeRouter 4, modelo de Ubiquiti que sustituye al anteriormente citado.Se trata de un router super configurable y que soporta las velocidades actuales más altas que ofrecen los ISP. En mi caso tengo Movistar de 1000 Mb simétricos y los maneja perfectamente.Entre sus muchas cualidades, maneja VLANs, algo necesario con la conexión de fibra de Movistar.Hay que saber un poco de redes para poder configurarlo a gusto, aunque por Internet (adslzone) se encuentra mucha información para hacerlo aunque domines poco de redes.Contento con la adquisición.

Consegna rispettata con Amazon. Dopo essere passato per l'ER-X (ancora in funzione nella mia rete) ho deciso di upgradare all'ER-4 (top di gamma ubiquiti tra i consumer). Si rinuncia alla componente switch (io a cuor leggero avendo un ES-10XP Ubiquiti), ma in compenso si passa ad un quadcore da 1Ghz e la differenza si sente tutta. Iperf3 l'ER-X senza offloading girava sui 280Mb/s, l'ER-4 va oltre i 700Mb/s (test effettuato su switch il tutto cablato in GigabitEthernet). Non ho provato con offloading ipv4/pppoe/ipv6/grep/ecc perché sinceramente è sprecato e si perdono alcune funzionalità (altro motivo per cui sono passato a questo gioiellino). Vabbè, chi sta leggendo questa recensione sa che non è un router plug&play, bisogna smanettarci sopra e soprattutto si deve sapere cosa si sta facendo, diversamente recensirà negativamente l'oggetto. Leggevo qualcuno che scriveva dell'ER-X che non era possibile vedere la lista dei client in modo facile e veloce.... Che tristezza... Compratelo, è ottimo!

Très bon routeur. Performant. L'interface WEB est peu pratique et ne couvre que 33% des fonctionnalités réelles du produit. Facile à configurer quand on est un habitué de la ligne de commande. MAJ régulière du firmware (EdgeOS) Bonne communauté et pas mal de guides, nécessaire néanmoins d'avoir un très bon bagage unix/linux pour l'utiliser pleinement. Permets d'installer des packages Debian (ne pas faire upgrade!). Performance très correcte en routing et IKEv2/IPsec, un peu léger pour du OpenVPN sur très haut débit
