When you want good quality buy a good quality brand. This ratchet grinder is amazing. I have arthritis in my hands and the twist and turn grinders won’t work for me. The ratchet action is much easier than I presumed. In addition the grinder fills easy. We vacation at the coast so a regular salt and pepper shaker draws moisture making them useless. No worries with this grinder! The options for finished size makes this a good option for different users. Grinding performance above my expectations but I knew the Sur La Table brand and it is always high quality. Arthritic hands celebrate!

I hardly ever write Amazon reviews, so when I do something is either very good or very bad. This pepper mill is very, very good. A gamechanger, if you will. I cook every meal at our house, love strong flavors, and detest endlessly turning traditional pepper mills while getting a couple sad specks of pepper out as a reward for 30 seconds of making my wrist sore. Meanwhile, you can almost feel the grinder blades disintegrating in real time. Even the thought of prep for a dish like cacio e pepe would cause me to shudder. So when I grabbed this guy for the first time and cranked out all the pepper I needed in the span of three, perhaps four... IDK what you call it, "ratchet motions?" It was an immediate sigh of relief and realization that, "Welp, at long last, that nagging problem is FINALLY solved." It's about as easy on your hands or wrists as you could imagine, if that's a problem for you. And the volume it cranks out per motion is efficient. One drawback: like almost all of these mills, it's not as easy to load as it should be. Not horrendous like many of them are, but the front-door aperture could be larger in order to make the process seamless, instead of "I have to think over this a bit." One caveat: I've only used it a couple times, so TBD on whether the grind quality depreciates with further use.

If you have trouble with having to twist other grinding mills you will love this grinding mill! It is incredibly easy to use and refill. One of the best buys we have made recently.

I have bought many pepper grinders. Electric,hand twist all of them and they all sucked. This is the absolute best grinder. It's durable super simple grinds the pepper to your choice of size. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Tired of slowly grinding away on a pepper grinder and just getting a little pepper, the Sur La Table Spice Ratchet Mill Grinder will definitely fix that problem. I like fresh ground pepper but my twist grinders take forever to get any pepper out. This grinder not only grinds a lot of pepper fast, it allows you to pick the size of the grind from very fine to course. I didn't even know I needed that but use it all the time. It seems like a quality item and the lever grind is so easy to use. This would be very helpful with anyone with limited mobility in their hands that cook.

I’ve had my fair share of grinders, but this one stands out as the best I’ve ever owned. It’s well-built and incredibly easy to use. In fact, I believe it’s comparable to a grinder that costs twice as much! If you’re a cooking enthusiast like me and on the lookout for a top-notch grinder, I highly recommend giving this one a try. You won’t be disappointed. I’m even planning to buy another one to use as a salt grinder.

The actual product is great. The top ratcheting action makes this the best pepper mill we've ever had, love it. Only reason I deducted a star was the shipping / packaging. I ordered this to replace the one I dropped ( on carpet ) and it snapped in half so might be little fragile. Very surprised when the replacement came in nothing more than an unpadded paper shipping bag. No box, no padding, no rigid protection. I'd expect it would be better packaged, especially since you pay extra for shipping.

NO TWISTING EVER AGAIN! I like this much more than the twisting method of pepper grinders that are out there. It is a nicely made product and looks nice if left out as well as functioning very well. It is well made. If you are some one with any type of hand impairment, injury, or even using prosthetics this is also an OUTSTANDING thing to have. You have much more control without having to grip and twist. You literally just move the handle back and forth. You could use one hand and your chin if needed. So handy!

Why are there not more pepper mills that use the ratchet technique? The grind can be calibrated (fine to coarse) and the ratchet movement gives a consistent result. The mill is super easy to fill and use. The pepper lovers in my house are thrilled! The price is relatively high, but so worth it. Highly recommend and would purchase again.

The product is amazing! The vendor charges $15 for shipping and it took a long time to get here. Additionally, the price tag attached displayed $25 for the spice grinder, yet they charge $70, for a total of $85, so they are making a lot of money due to the market-up. 4 stars for the product.
