Great Bino!
outstanding clarity in optics and lighting; well machined and built and easy to focus; Great buy for the money especially since the optics are on a par with my Swarvoskis

May be the only pair of binoculars you'll ever need...
This review is for the Vortex Crossfire HD Roof Prism 10x42 Binoculars.I own several pair of binoculars for a variety of reasons. From sports, birdwatching, hiking and stargazing the 10x42 Crossfire HD binoculars are amazing. The field of view is suitable for any occasion and their lightweight and ergonomic styling make long viewing sessions easy and manageable. The binoculars come with provisions to use with a tripod, a tripod adaptor is required. I recommend an adaptor designed specifically for roof prism binoculars. This will allow a full range of motion while adjusting your IPD settings. The Crossfire binoculars come with a very nice storage bag and has both a padded neck strap and a "glasspak" The glasspak allows you to carry the binoculars securely around your chest area for fast access when hunting or hiking. The neck strap is nice when you're just casually moving around and do not mind a little bit of swing from the binoculars. Both the neck strap and glasspak are comfortable and function well for their intended purpose. These binoculars have become one of my favorites for stargazing, while I'm waiting for that clear shot of a planet, or some other celestial event. I pull the Crossfires out and watch the clouds drift by the moon or satellites zipping across the skies, all with crystal clear image clarity. You can pay a lot more money and get a lot less binocular, these Vortex HD Crossfires are worth every penny. For their versatility, build quality, adaptability and very reasonable price point, I give these binoculars 5 out of 5 stars.

Crossfires are nicer than you think.
I'm just a crossfire kind of guy I guess, this is my second pair and luckily for me I haven't gone up to diamondback or viper levels, so there's nothing to miss out on so to speak. Vortex rifle scopes are what got me into vortex. Two sets of binoculars later and I don't think I'll jump ship.If you're shopping for your first pair, that first number is how many times you're magnifying what you're trying to look at. The second number is the size of your aperture or objective lens. The big side. This pair is 10 x 42 (10 power seems best all around) I've had another Vortex pair for about six years, 12 x 50 and they're just incredible, sometimes too much zoom. If you get up to 15 power or above for spotting scopes and stuff like that just know that you're probably gonna need a tripod because of the zoom stability.Anyway I feel they're extremely well-made and you can't beat the warranty. Clear vision and the only thing I can really see getting to those next levels that you're going to notice is maybe some more clarity around the edges, detents for the eyecup adjustments, the finish, things like that. I really want to splurge for the middle of the road diamondback or the higher end viper but I just can't bring myself to do it because the crossfires works so well for me. They feel like quality and I really appreciate all the rubberized coating all over everything. They provide backpack straps if you want to carry your whole case around with you instead of just your binoculars. I've never used that stuff but it's nice to have for some people so I figured I'd mention it.

Good but not great, but for the price, guaranty and the extras, close. (10x42)
Guess I will build the amazon machine with some good info to help customers realize the low down. Reviewing only one specimen of the Vortex 10x42 Crossfire HD binoculars, so keep that in mind. Going to compare the Vortex with a few similar priced binocs. Conditions: overcast rainy day, 2:30 pm Pa. Going to look at a Pa license plate (white background with dark letters/numbers) at 220 yards and tell you how easy it is the read the plate using the various binoculars. All binoculars in like new condition and carefully adjusted for my eyes. I could have got out the Zeiss, Lecia , Cabelas Alaskin guide, Maven etc. out to blow the Vortex away but only the Vortex general price range are compared. Starting with the best and going on down. Bushnell 10x25 Legend HD (clearly the best, the center hinge could be tighter for my taste), next Bushnell Legend L series of about 4 yrs ago 10x42( small amount of play when changing direction of main focus wheel) tied with the Celestron Trailseeker (Celestron had slightly better resolution but not quite the contrast of the Bushnell) A fairly close next the Vortex 10x32 Diamondback from about 6 yrs ago. And the hardest to make the plate out were the Crossfires but could still barely make it out finding the sweet spot. The Vortex are mechanically excellent and feel great in the hand. Weigh 24oz with the rubber attached objective covers. I think that allot of folks after taking the time to adjust the diopter for their own eyes will say the Vortex are a perfect binocular! But only when not having better to side by side compare(can take a little bit of time to do a careful comparison). Want to give the Vortex 4.5 considering the whole package and price. I got absolutely nothing for this review! O and people will be happy to know that the play in the focus wheel when changing directions of my Crossfires is almost completely gone! ( compared with my 8x42 Diamond backs of about 3+ yrs ago.) If you got the money I would go for the Diamondbacks, a bit lighter and likely a small amount better picture quilty (but over 50%more bucks!) UPDATE : after more experiment I would say the diamondback 10x32s are not quit as good as the 10x42 Cross fires. Think I mAy have a sub standard 10x32 speicimin in the diamondbacks? And now I have aquired a latest version of the 10x42 diamondbacks and they are excellent, better than the cross fires, better resolution especially in low light and have better edge to edge clarity than the Crossfires. ( I still feel Cross fires are good). With just the objective covers installed= 24.1 oz., Diamondbacks = 22.0 oz. Update (8/4/2023): the Crossfire 8x42 are very good and look like they would cost big bucks., amazing binocs for the money.

10-42
10-42. Nice unit. Purchased 8-2025. For the price point, hard to beat. Only used short time, I’ll update after my hunts this fall. Update: Just returned from Montana elk hunt. Binocs worked well. Clear, consistent, light enough to carry, low cost enough to not be overly concerned. Note, the 10-42 seems perfect for Midwest use but was limited for longer distances in mountains. Not an issue, more a comment.

One word: "Wow!" Very pleased.
First impressions:Purchased the Vortex Optics Crossfire HD Binoculars, 10x42 version.I bought these binoculars for bird watching, which has specific requirements as opposed to sports events and nature hikes. I wanted a large enough magnification that I could easily see the birds, but also with a wide enough field of view so that when a bird hops from one branch to another – something they are prone to do – that they wouldn’t be lost out of frame. I also wanted a fairly light weight and sturdy construction, all of which I found in my choice. These binoculars provide a crisp, clear image with no refraction. That is no colored fringes near the outer edges. The aperture is large enough that there is plenty of light gathering ability. Focusing is easy and natural, with the dial centrally located. This line is advertised as light weight, and it is, compared to other brands, but still it’s noticeable when hanging around your neck. This is not a complaint.CHOOSING MAGNIFICATION:For my whole life I’ve chosen and used bargain basement binoculars, usually 8X magnification. I thought 10X would be marginally better, but experts claim that when you use anything over 8 times, then the image can bounce around from your hand movements and shaking. I didn’t choose the 12X for that reason. The 10X that I purchased has noticeable jitters if held with one hand, but not so much that you lose track of the image. I’m glad I didn’t get the 12X. I’m quite pleased with the 10X, but I think I’d be just as happy with the 8X.CHOOSING FIELD OF VIEW:As mentioned above, I want the objective lens diameter to be large enough so that if a bird is on the move it would be easy to track and not fly out of range. The 42mm turns out to be perfectly suited to my needs. The next step up, 50mm may have made the binoculars bulkier and heavier, so I’m happy with this choice.ADJUSTMENTS:The inter-pupil distance adjustment was easy and intuitive. If the left and right sides are not adjusted to your eyes, you will see dark edges on the sides of the image. Once adjusted you don’t have to worry about this, unless you accidentally jar the adjustment. The diopter adjustment, likewise, was simple and intuitive. Once set up (if one of your eyes is weaker than the other) you can set once and forget about it.The neck strap was easy to install and adjust. No problems there. As mentioned in other reviews, the body strap for the carry bag it just too complicated. It reminds me of a medieval torture device. I discarded it and purchased a simple shoulder strap.MINOR COMPLAINT:I found that to see clearly through the binoculars and get a full field of view, your eye must be positioned exactly in the center of the eyepiece and at a specific distance from your eyeball. For me, this required me to hold the eyepiece about 3/8 inches from my eye. I found that resting my forefinger on my forehead, and the binocular eyepiece on the edge of my finger accomplished this nicely. The problem, however requires a more comfortable and reliable solution.I purchased a pair of 42mm rubber eye cushions that did the trick. That size rubber buffer is standard for microscopes, and are available for about $10 on the internet. See photos.CONCLUSION:All-in-all, I quite satisfied with this excellent product. It has made my bird-watching experience much more productive and enjoyable.

Good entry level glass
Decent glass. Really is a good entry level set. Focus is sharp, lacks the coatings of the Diamondback, but you can still observe with a sharp image

Great value-Great product
The Crossfire 10x42 binoculars are even better than I expected. Definitely "keepers". I doubt there are any better 10x42 brands/models at the same price point. They are sturdy (no shaky eye cups or adjustments). They are brighter in low light than any binocular I've used. We compared them to my son's excellent and much more expensive "Leo'" 10x42 and we were unable to see any difference in clarity or sharpness. The Crossfire close focus distance is about 8' (not 6 as advertised), which is fine. I really like the case and other accessories in the HD bundle.. The only thing I don't like about the Crossfire is its length, which is longer than most 10X42 models (like the Vortex Diamondbacks). But, I wish I'd had the opportunity to do a side-by-side comparison with the Diamondbacks. The binocular neck strap and the Glasspak harness/case cannot be used at the same time. And most of the time I don’t need either when I’m using the binos.I added split rings to the binoculars and 1 1/2” swivel snap clips to the shoulder strap and to the straps on the Vortex case that are used to connect to the binos. Now I can easily connect the strap or the case to the binos without threading individual straps on & off.The swivel snaps and split rings are available for 20 cents (package of 30@ of both) on Amazon. Why didn’t Vortex think of that? 😕I also connected the eyecup cover to the binos with an elastic strap so the cover is with me even when I’m not using the neck strap or case.

Great Quality and Magnification Beyond My Expectation.
These are my first 'new' binoculars that haven't been passed down the family, the older ones (WW2 era) being extremely large and heavy.I specifically searched for binoculars that had the HD coated optics, because as with spectacles the modern coatings really do make all the difference to the image clarity. I also wanted a good magnification, something that I could use for scouting the countryside at a fair distance - so ended up looking for magnifications of around 10x42.I initially considered the Celestron Skymasters, but having read some negative reviews about manufacturing quality issues (the rubber coming away from the body over time), I decided to give the American made product a go over the usual Chinese.I purchased the Vortex Crossfire HD 10x42 binoculars and they arrived a couple of days before the projected delivery date, so immediately I was happy (I love it when things work out better than anticipated).First impressions on opening the box: Great Quality. The weight is reassuring without being overly heavy and the physical size is about right for the hands - big enough to grip without being excessively long or wide. I like the matt green finish with a rubbery coating and also that the lens caps are integrated into the design, making it easy and quick to cover the lenses when you're done. The focus wheel has a really nice amount of drag so that it feels extremely accurate and maintains that quality feel (it feels like pushing something through heavy oil - quite nice friction feeling). The first thing to do of course was set the diopter so that both eyes were in focus, this is easily done by keeping the lens cap on the right optic and focusing on something with the left eye - then remove the lens cap from the right optic and adjust the diopter so that the focus is the same for both eyes when looking at the same object. The dipoter is stiff to rotate which is a really nice feature to stop accidental adjustments and it is also graduated so that you can visually set it for different users. The eyecups can be extended my rotating them which I strongly suggest you should do as this really increases the diameter of the viewing circle through the optics. So - what is the image like? Honestly - my first impression was 'wow, that is loads closer that I thought it'd be', this I'm absolutely overjoyed at, the 10x42 magnification is brilliant - really happy that I can use these to see details from literally miles away. The field of view is plenty wide enough and the image is bright, sharp and clear.Any negatives? Well yes, bearing in mind the very competitive price point of these binoculars - there is some aberration that is clearly visible, mostly yellow and purple fringing - but the overall clarity is very good indeed and the aberration doesn't really retract from the image very much at all (I'm only looking at this from a photographer's point of view). Also the included carrying case is very neat fitting with not a lot of extra space for the strap - you can get it all in, but its a tight fit. Conclusion: I'm absolutely happy with the Vortex Crossfire 10x42 binoculars, the magnification exceeds my expectation and the clarity and brightness of the image is just great. I am pleased that I opted to give Vortex a try and am well impressed with the overall quality and of course the cost. 100% Happy Customer!(For ref: I purchased these binoculars with my own money and they are intended for my personal use. This review is in no way sponsored or supported by the manufacturer or seller, and my opinions are based on my personal usage of the product. - There, just so you know this review is genuine and written by a real life human!)
