Excellent excellent play.
Colin Morgan is excellent and amazing as Ariel. The other actors where wonderful as well. Just an excellent, amazing and funny play. I would give it 10 stars if the ratings went that high. Heck I am giving it 10 stars.

Delightful
I bought this because Colin Morgan is in it and he is great in everything he does. I found the entire production to be well-acted and beautiful.

Outstanding production.
Great performances from the cast, but it's the stagework that really puts this production into another level of excellence. The use of music, puppetry, costumes/makeup, and sounds effects help deliver the play's overall sense of wonder and redemption in a powerful way. Big thumbs up.

Up Close and personal!!
Highly recommend! I couldn't figure out how to get the subtitles to work but nonetheless the production is wonderful. During the first half it was raining so it was interesting to see the audience getting wet as they watched a live production at the Globe facsimile. Real devotees! You won't regret watching this version.

The Globe at its best
Surprisingly, it wasn't until Caliban's first entrance that I was sure I'd seen some of this production on TV years ago. With such a wonderful cast I thought i would have remembered it more. I won't forget it now. It's a wonderful version of a wonderful play. Allam is ever bit as good as you'd expect, Jessie Buckley is adorable and beautifully- spoken, Fox and Cox after hilarious as Trinculo and Stephano, and as for Garnon and Morgan as Caliban and Ariel, I cannot praise them enough. They are both so touching. If you haven't seen it and love Shakespeare, I insist you treat yourself.

Magical
I was lucky enough to see this live and even though the DVD has yet to come out, I just had to post a review. Im not a die-hard fan of Shakespeare but this play truly captured my imagination. Prospero and Miranda really stood out for me, the power of their performances was first class and I understand that this version may be slightly different because of the live aspect, but the performance I saw was also incredibly funny in places. Colin Morgan again proves what an exceptional actor he is and a very skilled physical artist too. Ariel is ethereal and the way he consistently blinks is extraordinary and you truly believe he is a spirit as he is so unlike the others. The costumes were beautiful, the Globe is truly a magical theatre and I hope the DVD captures at least some of that magic.

A beautiful production
This production is enthralling. Brilliant performances from all the players. It's always a good sign when the actors are clearly enjoying themselves. The production is powerful yet warm and witty and at times poignant. I love The Globe productions - it really fascinates me to see how the stage is used differently for each play. I loved the costumes, too, especially the decorated collars worn by Iris and Ceres in Act IV. The masque dance is really great, quite bonkers. And the music is just right. The music in some of The Globe productions is not to my taste, a bit too modern and discordant. But here it's good. I loved Sarah Sweeny as Iris. I'm still trying to figure out how she produced the small flower and how she made it disappear again.

Best Tempest I've ever seen.
I was lucky enough to get to watch this twice at the Globe and then preordered the DVD as soon as it was announced. I have not been disappointed. While it can't rival the live experience, it's a good and clear recording of what I believe is one of the most magnificent productions of The Tempest ever to hit the stage.Roger Allam is a marvel to watch and captivates the audience with every word. Colin Morgan, who I'd not really been aware of as an actor aside from the one or two episodes of Merlin I watched, brings such charm to the role of Ariel! He manages to pull of the etherial nature of the spirit in all his movements, gestures and inflections. The rest of the cast is just as charming, though these two really steal the show.It really is a joy to watch again and again and I can't recommend it enough. The Tempest has always been my favourite Shakespeare and I have watched many iterations of it. For me, this one is definitely the best.

Another Marvellous Globe Production
I saw a live performance of this wonderful production at the Globe and was keen to buy the DVD because it was difficult to see some of the action from where I was sitting. The DVD actually poses a different problem because of the positioning of some of the cameras so that, on occasion, you had a lovely view of Prospero from the neck down when he is delivering one of his great speeches. Of course, filming of a live performance is not the same as creating a filmed version of a production and I have to accept that actors can not always be playing to camera when on stage. That little grumble out of the way, I can only praise this production for magnificent acting (Roger Allam can do no wrong for me) and a wonderfully atmospheric production for an open theatre. Caliban was wonderfully played, as was Ariel with his faintly robotic performance (shades of Officer Data in the Star Trek films with his puzzlement at the antics of the human species). The comedy ranged from broad (the two drunken shipmates) to a charmingly smitten Ferdinand being kept away from Miranda by her over anxious father. The only thing I could not always catch was the Geordie accent of Trinculo which could have done with sub-titles (I jest but it was a bit impenetrable for a southerner). Do buy this It is a wonderful production.
