Does the job.
You can't wax too romantic about a totally utilitarian item like this, but I can praise it for being absolute watertight, and steamtight as well. No matter how hard your coffee maker pushes (20 bar is 294 pounds) this rubber disk sits there and holds tight. Much cheaper than the metal blind filter cups. Buy two, it's easy to forget where you left it.

Works well on older machines, hit or miss on newer machines.
I have a Rancilio Silvia that is a few years old. The backflush insert works most of the time, but will randomly not form a seal. Meanwhile, my nephew has a Silvia that is about 25 years old. The backflush insert works like a charm on his machine.

Does not fit porter filter properly so makes hard to clean the espresso machine.
