Superb instrument
Excellent construction and finish. My instructor was amazed when she tested it and said that this is as good as many professional instruments. Very even intonation throughout the range. The instrument comes with everything you need to get started. It comes in a very good quality case along with two professional *CVX* bocals, a seat strap, two drop swabs, a crutch and two Fox professional reeds.

Beautiful instrument and sound
I am not a professional, but I have played bassoon from junior high school, through high school, and through college (as a music minor). Since graduating from college 14 years ago, I haven't had many chances to play. All the instruments I have ever played on have been school instruments. I finally decided it was time to break down and buy one for myself to own and to love for the rest of my life!I researched bassoons for years, and particularly for a few months leading up to buying one. I worked through a music store in Minneapolis, Minnesota, who let my test play both the Fox 220 and the Fox 240 (I paid the shipping charges, and they mailed them both to my house!!!). The bassoon guru there answered my questions, and spent quite a bit of time with me on the phone. (I don't know if I can mention their name on Amazon, or not.) So, anyway, they sent me both instruments, and I was able to play them side by side. I can't for the life of me tell them apart. To ME they sounded the same, and looked identical! I carefully inspected both of them side by side, and they really looked and sounded identical. (But like I said, I'm not a professional). But I CAN tell you that they both played like a DREAM!!!! Never in my LIFE have I played on such wonderful instruments (and I've played on quite a few of them!)I bought the 220 because it was a $1000 cheaper, thank you very much. I asked the bassoon guru what the differences were between these instruments and the professional Fox instruments, and to make a LONG answer short, it's just cosmetics. The Fox 240 is only more expensive, because for some reason, they are harder to get in tune at the factory, and therefore it takes more man hours to tune them, so they cost more. Other than that, they are identical instruments! I'll take the one that is cheaper, and easier to play in tune, thank you. But you can't go wrong with either the 220 or the 240. The bassoon guru told me, that after a few years of playing consistently, then my ears would be able to tell a difference between the 220 and the 240, but for my level of playing right now, I wouldn't be able to hear much of a difference at all.I LOVE my new 220. I highly recommend this instrument. It is solidly built, plays beautifully, and is a gorgeous instrument all around. You CAN'T go wrong with it. I hope this helps.

Great Instrument
I got this bassoon as my high school graduation present. I used it in college and in various groups ever since. I have owned the instrument for eight years now and it still works as great as it did right out of the box. This one is considered a student model, but it plays just as well as the professional models. The tone is very clear and has great resonation. It includes a seat strap, some wire cleaners, a hand rest and two bocals.Anyone who is interested in learning bassoon or continuing to play should get this one. Fox is the best brand available and the Renard line is the best quality and price.

Beautiful instrument!
The bassoon was purchased in 1997, gently used, and in very good condition. It includes two bocals (#2 and #3 CVX), a leather seat strap, a hard case, and a black soft carrying case with a shoulder strap. It would be perfect for a student in high school or in college who is interested in learning how to play the bassoon. The seller played this instrument throughout high school and college. It was played with love and the seller ultimately wants it to be in the hands of someone who would respect the instrument and treat it as well as she did.The model 220 is in the key of C. Its body is made from gorgeous black maple and has high D and E keys and is long bore. Some other features of this bassoon model include: linings in the wing joint and small bore of the boot joint, French bell, body lock, nickel keys with silver plating, ring key for wing joint third finger hole, rollers of F, Ab, Eb, Dd, right thumb Bb and F#, in combination with a crowned E key and Bb guard
