I am an almost 70 year old female and was assembling upright planters. When they were done the things did not drain right. I figured that I had two choices, return them (but I wanted to plant) or fix them....somehow. I had nothing that helped so I ordered these. I am SO glad I did. I added drain holes to all of my planters easily (Also thankful for my Dewalt drill). But it did not stop there. I have these huge plastic planters that have never drained right and so I was not using them. Now they have more drain holes and great plants as well. I have found so many uses for these all of which I am guessing the normal purchaser would not use them for but super glad they are in my toolbox now. Arrived super fast, well packaged, just as described.

I bought this to drill holes in wood for a new Water Heater platform that I was making. I am using a Thermal Expansion Tank and made some 3/4" Plywood brackets secured to the wall with KREG pocket holes/screws and I needed a pair of brackets that could reinforce the copper pipe going to the Tank. By drilling the hole first and then cutting the wood in half with a circular saw this made the job easy enough. Another spade bit in this set was used to enlarge an existing hole in a plastic housing using a low speed drill. I also tested drilling into a thin piece of metal which does wear the bit down faster but was the only thing I had. I look forward to using these for a long time.

These are an amazing set of spade bits. I previously used spade bits by other manufacturers and I thought that the bits inherently took time to chew through the wood. I needed to bore installation holes in pressure treated 4" x 6" wood beams for 8" lag screws. I used the 3/8" and 5/8" bits in an entry level Black and Decker electric drill (corded). I was amazed at how quickly and seemingly effortlessly these bits went through the wood. All that I had to do was hold the drill steady and occasionally lift the bit out of the wood to remove the wood chips. It is truly impressive how well the bits bite into the wood and then guide the wood chips upwards. I bought my set in 2012 and they are still very effective.

These are very sharp and cut easily through heavy timber without issue. I cannot recommend them enough really. But not exactly sure what else to say about them.

Deserves more than 5 stars.

Every workshop should have a basic set of spade bits such as this. This type enables the greatest control over drilling a hole into wood and does it accurately and carefully. In that respect they are an advantage over those with a screw end that are fast, but rough and often become stuck in the material. That is the reason these are worth more than the other kind that on the surface seem to be more efficient.
