The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For?

I first read this book in 2007. I still consider it the greatest, simplest guide to living for God ever written. The Bible is God's word. But it's good to have a guide that summarizes and helps us understand the Bible, and how we best live by it.I have the book as well as the audiobook. The audiobook is amazing, I highly recommend it. I've gone through it over 50 times. Because I constantly need to remind myself it's about God, not me, and I need to align my thoughts with His. It also comforts me in a stressful world full of disappointment, darkness, and confusion.Part of the reason this book has sold 60+million copies is that it explains how our lives are given to us by God for God’s purposes, and until we realize that, our lives won’t make much sense, or bring us much fulfillment. It explains how God is the thread that pulls it all together. It explains clearly, simply, and without pretense. There's no air of spiritual superiority, or shaming unbelieving ways. It's simply life's greatest messages spoken humbly and directly. Rick is a regular person, who simply knows God's word and ways, and shares it with everyone.Our purpose is to treat others as ourselves and do acts of charity, be honorable, be the answer to people’s needs and prayers, and show that God is good and real. God answers prayers that are in line with His purposes, such as helping others rather than just helping ourselves. With this, God gives us thousands of scriptures and points of wisdom and understanding to guide, inspire, and grow us into what He wants us to be. Doing this, we gain many blessings in this life and store up treasure for the next.This book is such a joy. It’s written so simply, anyone can understand it. Sometimes we struggle to to understand God, but this book explains God and life itself like none I’ve ever seen. It takes away our fear and reluctance to figure out God and the Bible on our own. We can DO this. We don’t have to be perfect to do this. The fist step is understanding what all this is and how it works. Then we can begin living with God on our side, knowing His perspectives. It takes some adjustments, but it’s like cheating in the test of life. God gives us the answers!Highly, highly recommended! We've tried everything else. Now we need to truly pursue God and His ways. He will not let us down. It's a shame we can live for decades, even going to church, and not really understand God. This book will change that. Jump right in as you are! You don't have to be perfect to invite God into your life and trust Him to make things better.

This book opened my eyes to so much I didn't know about myself and my purpose. Easy to read and very powerful. Highly recommend.

Very important book for everyone

I cheated. Author Rick Warren requests you take 40 days to read The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For? so you can reflect on each chapter. Instead, I read through it in 8 days. So, it is possible, okay I know, I missed out on the full impact of the book.In The Purpose Driven Life, Warren walks his readers though the theological and practical spiritual steps to living on purpose. Each chapter is a daily meditation that focuses on one topic and finishes with points to consider and questions to ask. For the expanded edition, Warren has added codes that can be scanned by a smart phone and provides access to videos that accompany the chapters. The book is broken into sections on living for God’s pleasure, living as part of God’s family, living to imitate Christ, service and missions. At the conclusion of the book are numerous appendixes for additional resources, including some free ones, and Bible verses.Lately, I have been complaining about generic Christian books and my frustration over them. In many ways I can see how The Purpose Driven Life provides nothing really new and is generic. But even when I read the first edition over 8 years ago I never got the sense that Warren was trying to provide breakthrough ideas. Instead, I think he was attempting to make 2,000 years of theological study fit within a container that was understandable to the general public. The reaction and book sales make it clear that he accomplished his goal. So in many ways I feel like generic Christian books are trying to copy the Warren success, rather than this book being part of the problem.I really do suggest reading this book as a group. I can remember when I did this in weeks one and two our group discussed questions like what job does God want me to have. But by the time we dug into the content the question really became what kind of person does God want me to be. Ironically and results may vary, that is when jobs and other personal requests opened for the group. The Purpose Driven Life was one of the most successful group studies I have been part of.I really would recommend this book as a small group tool or a book that would be helpful to a new believer. Even for those who have been around for awhile it can be very useful. I found myself contemplating Warren’s comments about how the church is filled with servant-leaders not servants. And the new chapters on envy and people pleasing are highly insightful. All in all, the expanded edition only helps to build on the success of this highly popular book. This is an amazing read and the secret to how impactful it is was slowing down the speed at which I read and use this alongside a bible to get the best application of the teaching .

This book deserves this rating , I never read any book from first to last in my entire life :) even my school books :) , currently I am reading the Bible in parallel and will be finishing reading all the chapters soon. So first book to complete is Rick's book.This book is not a book , ever heard people telling often in a company explaining the process how it works and they keep on referring to the term " This is the Bible " , so read it and get familiar . So I would say this book is the Bible for a meaningful purpose driven Life. I have to read it again as this book gives lot of questions , thoughts , especially the difference between World class Christians vs Godly Christians are really explained clearly. I heartfully thank Rick for this book and I strongly believe many would have got benefitted from this book and getting transformed themselves for rest of their life. Once you read this book then if you read other books then you feel like it is duplicated or you can find out the real difference between this books. May God bless Pastor Rick and his ministries.

Easy to follow. If you follow the advice of 1 chapter a day, you will be on good track.

Every believer should read this book! It’s easy to follow, it’s very practical and it’s something that you can easily teach to another. By the end of the book you will have no doubt what God expects of you as a believer, then it’s up to you to get on with it! I would highly recommend! Thanks Pastor Rick!
