Is this a replacement of the original part or a cover that sits on top of the original?

This a replacement, not a cover.

can you remove a Cover, glued on dashboard without hurting it

This replaces the actual defroster pice remove old one and put this one in

I took off my original oem because it was crack. Will this one fit like the original one?

I have a 2002 Ram 1500 SLT 4x4, and mine fit perfectly. My OEM was totally falling apart and was an eyesore. This new one is lighter than black, but darker than grey. It matches the front console where the radio is and AC controls. My only regret is that I didn't do this years ago. Make sure you remove all the old clips, and there are no screws, so just align it with the holes and press or push down till the clips engage.
