Product Description BEING 17 is a moving exploration of adolescent sexual awakening from renowned French director André Téchiné ("Wild Reeds") with a script he co-wrote with director Céline Sciamma ("Girlhood"). Damien and Thomas are French teenagers from very different upbringings who go to the same high school but can't stand each other. When circumstances bring Damien's mother Marianne (played by Sandrine Kiberlain) to invite Thomas to live with them, the young men are forced to coexist and work through their emerging attraction and complicated desires Review This vibrant portrait feels like something of a revelation… this well-observed collaboration with co-writer Celine Sciamma is Techine's strongest film in years --VarietyAn ultra-naturalistic slice of rocky adolescent life that combines violence and sensuality, wrenching loss and tender discovery --The Hollywood Reporter

Very very Good. Very!!!!!
Great acting, storyline, and, surprisingly, the cinematography. Remeinds me of when i was 17 (well, 18 and crazy about another dude, a soccer teammate). 10 Stars on this movie.

The Agora of Lonely Love
Being 17 is a French "Call Me By Your Name." ...a year earlier and of classmates/co-equals. ...a tale of awakenings and the Fates.Thomas is a farmer-family's only - but adopted - son. His mom is pregnant and yet this time, thanks to Damien's mother - the small nearby town doctor, likely to bring into the world her first successfully birthed child. He knows the clock is ticking. Her trimesters are the timeline of the film. Thomas is also alert to his budding feelings toward the male, and in particular towards Damien. These two fight constantly at school in a dance of ancient "en mask" masculinity and outright fear. Damien, the more openly exploratory, is very close to his mom and dad, with his father being the military officer and hero of his life. He too knows the clock is ticking, taking up boxing to assuage the tension of growing up "this way."As with Elio and Oliver, the Fates are very much at play with both young men and with their sense of adulthood throughout the movie. They are overly attuned to each other from the very start, and they each know it. In Being 17, their classmates and school faculty are ignorant of what drives Thomas and Damien's battles. So too are Damien's parents. All serving as blind witnesses, unlike Mr. Perlman. It is only through Damien's belated confession that his mom can become and is restored as his mother. Thomas has no such parental redemption, his comes through the birth of his new sibling and through his honesty with Damien.

Well rendered old situation!
Being 17 This is a good film, but at times, it is overdone, and over played. (Script or director's problem?). Sandrine Kiberlain is very true to life, while her husband is not. "Damien" is absolutely natural, while "Thomas" has a difficult role to play and he does not seem to be very comfortable playing it in the first half. It seems not to fit him at times, and he seems to be much better towards the end. All this may be part of the director's point of vue. At any rate, it is a good film, and does bring subjects to be discussed and pondered over. The problem are there and up to the viewers to sort out. I did like it very much and will watch it again.

Love's Way
This is a French film with English sub-titles. It is a love story about two young men in what would be classified as total aggression from both, trying to find themselves and love also!! In my 71 years on this planet, I have only seen this happen twice. The first time was very confusing, to watch this enfold, as I was in college! The second time was in the military, talk about being too wild for words?!?!! This story line should be considered for the love story of the century!! NJMJr!!!PS These two actors surely went beyond the call of duty when it came to their portrayals of their characters. For me only the French could make such a superb and extremely high quality film. I shall be watching for the next film by this director! I should like to point out that while this film is fictional, it really occurs in the boarder scope of life!! Immediate and hard fought aggression between two young men can point to a underlining of confusion on gender and love!! Such is life!! NJMJr!!!

Wrong chemistry
Found the film disappointing. What I did like is it reminded me of when I was a kid watching Childrens Film Festival- movies about kids in other countries. But as an adult, the chemistry between the 2 boys didn’t feel real. All the other characters, their motives and relationships to each other felt real and made the story interesting. But the 2 seventeen year old boys didn’t seem to progress (film wise) into a relationship that the film ends with. Disappointing.

Worth Watching
I enjoyed this movie. It is in subtitles but that didn't bother me at all. The story and the acting is quite good. I recommend it.

Wonderful
Loved this movie from beginning to end. The male leads take you on the journey with them as they sort through the emotions and confusion. I found myself rooting for them from the get go and right up till the end. Superb!
