Fine but have since discovered a better solution
I am new to fermenting and saw this product in a youtube video. These weights are fine but I have subsequently found a better way to keep things submerged in my quart mason jars. Another youtube video showed how to use those red plastic cups (popular at keggers) to keep the vegetables submerged. You just put the red cup, bottom side down, on top of the compressed contents of the jar, mark it at the rim of the jar and cut it off so the lid fits on the jar. This solution is better than weights because it leaves enough space in the cup to accommodate the liquid that usually overflows . Just cut a couple of small holes in the bottom of the cup to let the rising liquid enter the cup.I still use these in smaller jars where the cups dont fit.

Made in China, do not trust the source of this glass material
Purchased this from a "branded" seller assuming that it would not be made in China and that I could trust the materials that were used to make it. Imagine my dissatisfaction to discover that it was made in China. Shipped overseas as a gift therefore cannot return. BE AWARE MADE IN CHINA.

I love sauerkraut
They're glass weights. If you get them for fermenting stuff, they probably work pretty well. Idk.HOWEVER. If you get them to weigh down your cats' water fountain because your one jerk of a ginger won't stop knocking the fountain over for some reason that you'll never know because he refuses to speak English, well...they probably won't work unless your cat is weak & lacks determination. Unfortunately, my Jack is strong AND stubborn, so my problem was not resolved using these weights. Luckily he underestimated my OWN stubbornness, and I attached a placemat to my floor with carpet tape, then taped the water fountain to the placemat using carpet & electrical tape, and sealed the top with more tape! It's now been over a week since my floor & everything on it were soaked in water...just don't ask how or when I plan to run it through the dishwasher...I have a few weeks to decide, okay?!Send sauerkraut.

Defective.
Very disappointed. Probably doesn't deserve one star, but I'm super unhappy. Only one of them has a non-slip grip. The others were poorly made and can't even be gripped at all.

Easy to grip!
Unlike other glass weights I have, these are easy to get a grip on when you want to remove them from a jar. The bottom is not flat but slightly curved to deflect any bubbles toward the edges. Nice design!

Just what I Needed - great for any Pickle/Fermentation
So far this is great and Exactly as advertised. Made of thick durable glass, one of the 4 even dropped about a foot with no crack or chip on the way to the dishwasher for an easy high-temp clean before use. Fit great inside multiple fermentation jars and did Exactly the job it's intended for, allowing bubbles to escape and keeping the vegetables beneath the surface of the brine. Another round in the dishwasher for 2 of them after 2 of the jars were emptied (along with the glass jars and lids themselves) and they're back in the original padded box until the next pickle/fermentation project. Very pleased with this, saves time and cleaning when you don't need to keep adding brine to the very brim of the jar to keep everything submerged and much less fizzing and spillage from bubbling fermentation 😉Excellent Product - and the shipping was fast and efficient, as well (but so far through Amazon I've yet to be disappointed in that regard... 👍)

PERFECT
I got these and another set but THIS SET WAS WAYYYYY BETTER. They fit in jar better and they have the perfect handle to get them out. The other brand is just NOT as GOOD.

Nice weight for fermentation in wide-mouth jars
This was my first attempt at fermentation and I'm so glad a friend recommended that I buy these (along with a set of air-lock lids). I used these in my 2-quart canning jars to ferment dill pickles: the weight fit perfectly inside the wide-mouth jar, it kept the cukes below the liquid surface, and the ribbed grib made it easy to pull the weight out of the jar at the end of the fermentation process. Despite having so many gherkin-sized cukes in a single jar, only one weight per jar was needed to keep the cukes submerged. The weights are a little slick when hand-washing afterward (especially when holding by the sides in order to wash inside the non-slip handle part) but I mitigated any potential disaster by using a rubber mat inside a dishpan of soapy water, just in case I accidentally dropped them. Love them and anticipate they will last for years.

Excellent weights
They have a really good weight to them, keeps everything under the brine and easy to remove remove the weights from the jar because of the little handle on them. I definitely would buy these again :)

One broken.
One was broken in box. Quite expensive for a few pieces of glass.

Fantastic to use
I have purchased these weights before, they are fantastic to use. Have great weight to them and keeps everything under the brine :)

It's a weight
The grip handle is a gimmick as the milled edges run vertically so does not offer any benefits for gripping. They should run horizontally. If the jar opening is only slightly bigger than the weight, you will have a hard to getting underneath/side of it to pull out. A bigger jar is needed but, then you risk of smaller products floating above it. It is essentially like any other weight so does the job and other than the handle, seems well made.

STOP THE TRUCK!!
I originally bought these for my sister a Christmas gift, but after examining them I may keep them for meself . I previously bought myself a set of fermenting weights by Nourished Essentials (see my review at Amazon.ca) and everything wrong with those weights, the Year of Plenty Fermenting Weights with Grip Handle (they sell plain saucer weights as well) corrected. First off and foremost is the fact that the grip is designed for people with all kinds of hand sizes in mind including mine with big sausage fingers after a lifetime of labour. Very easy to pick up. Secondly, the grip is textured so that it doesn't slip when grabbing it. Thirdly there is no indentation at the bottom of these to trap air, they are very nicely bevelled. The only drawback is that it states that it's made in china on the box, they really shouldn't advertise that fact. Let's keep the jobs at home.
