BLACK+DECKER BLACK+ DECKER Leaf Blower Hose Attachment for Corded Leaf Blowers, Attachment Only, 8ft (BV-006)

I've been using a Black & Decker leaf vac for many years, and always dreaded the constant emptying of the collector bag. I had no idea the B&D Leaf Collection System existed... I saw a similar item on TV and found the B&D when I came here to search for the other. I ordered the B&D product immediately and used it for the first time today, and it worked perfectly, but I must thank other reviewers for tips and tricks that helped immensely. Gathering the other items required, I selected a 31-gallon metal trash can, 39 gallon lawn & leaf bags, and two 3-foot bungee cords. The metal can (as opposed to plastic) was for a bit of weight to add stability. 39 gallon bags allow enough surplus to have one of the 3-foot bungee cords wrapped around the top of the can and the top of the bag to secure it. Next, I added the fabric top and used the second bungee to hold it in place. I snugged up the drawstring but the bungee really is what holds the top in place. Thus, it didn't matter that the plastic lock was difficult to secure. The fitting on the hose connected to my vac without needing any of the supplied adapters, and the other end went in the hole in the fabric can topper. I saw a potential problem here, but proceeded with the test. I'd blown the leaves in my yard into piles near where the can was located within reach of the 8-foot hose. The vac sucked up and mulched the (slightly damp) leaves with no problems, the piles shrank and the can filled. The hose did pop out of the hole in the fabric can topper once midway through filling the can for the first time. When the can was full I removed the topper, tied off the bag, and loaded a second bag. Midway through filling the second bag the hose popped loose again. Now, it is permanently secured with a long nylon cable tie. As the second bag approached full, I took off the topper and tamped the mulched leaves down a bit. I got more leaves in the second bag by doing this. And that was it! For the amount of leaves I had to clean up, I probably would have had to have emptied the shoulder bag a dozen times. I tried to be careful to avoid sucking up twigs, so no holes in my hose. Since I kept the can close to the leaf piles, I had no problems with pulling the can over and with a bit of care no problems with the hose twisting. A good bit of dust comes through the fabric can topper, but I had a good breeze and just stayed upwind. I could have used a bigger can and bigger bags to hold more leaves, but the bigger filled bags would have been harder to handle. Finally, when I was finished, the vac, extension cord, box of leaf bags, hose and topper all went in the can for storage. I can totally recommend the Black & Decker Leaf Collection System. With a bit of care and proper preparation it works perfectly, speeds up leaf cleanup and saves a lot of labor. A few more points to note... the leaf vac, trash bin, bags and bungee cords are (of course) not included. Despite the word "system" in the name, you must supply these other items yourself. The fabric can cover comes packed INSIDE the collapsed plastic hose. Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Initially my rating for this product would have been a zero and I would have written that if someone were looking for something to yell obscenities to then this is your ticket but then I did get the hang of it - after a while. I have an old B&D Leaf Hog blower/vacuum/mulcher that I have used primarily as a blower since purchase because that little bag which came with it caused more irritation than it was worth thus rendering the vacuum/mulcher useless to me. This year I spotted this attachment and I became excited that this is what was needed and SHOULD HAVE been sold along with the original blower/vacuum/mulcher so I bought it (as well as a trash can on wheels from Walmart). Delivery was fast and well packaged, thank you Amazon. From other reviewers I knew first hand that the cord cincher was going to be difficult to use and, yes, it most certainly is so I immediately exchanged the cincher for another that I already had - I highly recommend others to do the same. Several attachments were included with the hose but they weren't needed as I could fasten the hose directly my vacuum. After discovering this I was ready to mulch but attempting to secure the netting over the trash can proved to be extremely arduous for me as the weight of the hose continuously pulled the far side off before I could cinch the cord thus causing me a lot frustration. Finally getting it on I began to mulch and it went well with the netting blowing off once as other reviewers had complained about but I tied a loose knot below the cincher which stopped that from reoccurring. After fighting a lost cause in trying to reattach the netting again after the first dumping made me give up for the day and I was very disappointed. The next day I tried again only this time I finally got smart by simply removing the netting from the hose end THEN securing the netting to the can - securing further down the sides too thus eliminating the need to knot and no worries of the netting blowing off again. Getting the elastic opening back around the hose end was a little trying at first but it got better the more it was repeated. From this simple change the process became so much easier and I began to like this attachment as it is far, far better than using that little bag. Rating it was difficult considering my initial trials but it does work well in the end. Raking leaves into piles before mulching is also recommended; however, just raking the leaves overall may be the quicker of the two methods. Good luck with yours.

Let me start by saying that I love this addition. I was a little leery to purchase it given reviews that I had read about it not staying on the trash can very well. I did decided to pull the trigger and I am so glad that I did. First, why did I buy it? My leaf blower also mulches and I use it 95% of the time to mulch leaves. Why? because I can fix 5-10x as many in my trashcans on the curb if I do. However in that mode I have a bag on a strap over my shoulder. That bag gets HEAVY! So my back and shoulder get tired and then rapidly head into sore. This works as a new "on the ground" catch all. It connects perfectly, has a number of adapters, to my leaf blower. It then has an 8' hose with a net or mesh cover with a draw string. The mesh allows the air being blown thru the hose to come up but keep the leaves in place in the trashcan. So now instead of a bag I mulch up the leaves from around the can and then drag the can and mulch some more. No more soreness but I am limited in range to the can. So the concern people said it wouldn't stay on the can for me proved to be not true or at least a non issue. There is a small plastic sliding knob on the draw string. This slides easily allowing things to fit on any general size or shape of can. I have a grey Brute from the local big box store. I hook the bag under the handle on one side, then drape it over to the other side and slide the handle. Then in a small channel in the center of that slider is a lock. You slide it up and binds on the string and holds tight. Tight enough that I have pulled the can over on it's side rather than have that release. But a quick flip with a thumb nail and it releases and you can deal with the contents of the trashcan. That lock is a life-saver. Without it this would just never work... The 8' hose doesn't really give you a circle with a diameter of 16'. I found that the hose is in the center of the mesh netting on the top of the can. I loose a foot there. With my mulcher it comes in on the side not the end. So I personally get... 6 feet or so. But still with how well the rest of it work that really hasn't been a concern. I have never had anything leaf related bind up in the hose. I did get one clog. unbeknownst to me I had sucked up a woody stick from a Rose bush. The this made it thru the system still as a stick and wedge where it shifts from blower to hose attachment and bingo things stopped flowing. But the same exact thing would have happened with the bag in place... I would heartily recommend this after about 10 hours of use in the last 2 weeks. If anything should ever happen to this one I will be directly ordering another one as a replacement. I might even pre-emptively buy one... ;)

I filled over 20 garbage cans full of leaves over the last weekend. So this leaf collection gadget does work. However, it has some serious design flaws. First off, the weight of the hose pulled the cover off the garbage can before I could even turn on the leaf hog. Once secured more carefully (I tried not to move the hose - the draw string will keep leaves in but not hold the cover on), the cover immediately blew off when the hog was turned on. So I grabbed a couple of spring clamps and put one on each side of the hose on the opposite side of the can from me. Problem solved. Hint: be careful when clamping. I'm not sure how much abuse that fabric cover can take. The second design flaw; they give you an adapter that fits on the hose and then snaps onto the hog. After a few cans, my adaptor started slipping off the hog. I once just watched it slip off from vibration without picking up leaves. So I grabbed some Tyvek tape I had left over from siding the house and taped the adaptor to the hose. Good packing tape will work. Don't waste your time with duct tape. Like I said, I'm not sure how long the fabric cover will last. Try not to put too much strain on it. Avoid letting the hose tug on it. And definitely stay away from rose bushes, barberrys and any other thorny plant. I'm sure they would tear the cover to shreds. The hose seems to be pretty solid. I managed not to step on it which is a victory for me. And I would say push down on the release button when snapping on the adapter. The plastic strip that holds it to the hog isn't very substantial. Long ago in a faraway land, buying a name brand like Black and Decker ensured that you were getting a reliable tool built in the USA that would last forever. I still have some of my dad's tools that are over 50 years old. But now when you pay extra for a name brand, what you're doing is increasing the odds that you're getting a tool (made in China) that will do what it's supposed to and hopefullly last a few years, which is what my last leaf hog did before it died. Stay away from those no names, you're just throwing your money away. I paid 31.67 for it. I see the price is up to 38.50. I'd say I overpaid by $10. Like I said, it did do the job. Not sure for how long but I will try to treat it with care. Update Dec 2013; Well this collection system is still working but here is something to watch out for. While collecting leaves this fall I noticed some holes in the hose, close to where it hooks onto the leave vac. All I can come up with is that while I was picking up leaves from a cherry tree, the vacuum sucked up some cherry pits which blasted thru the hose. So I wrapped the hose with duct tape and so far so good.

The attachment works as intended, but I didn't want to buy an additional trash can for the netting to fit on. So, I shoved the hose into the green waste bin and weighed the top down with a scrap of 4x4 (because it would slip out while on otherwise). There will be some debris that comes out as the leaves get sucked in (see around the bin), but then I just used the vacuum to clean up around there afterward. If you want to get fancy, you could put something over the openings, but this wasn't a big deal to me. Also! Thanks to another reviewer, I used the method of leaving the vacuum on the ground and just raking leaves into it. This saved my back and unlikely added much time, if any, to the whole process. We don't have a huge yard, but the pile of leaves pictured took me less than an hour to completely clean up.

The attachment works great with my Black + Decker leaf blower. I have had several hose attachments in the past that were "universal", but the previous items always slipped loose while using. Pros * Attachment always stays attached to the leaf blower hose no matter how much tugging is done. Cons * The drawstring that goes around the trash can isn't as strong of an attachment, and the leaf debris can build up along the edge of the drawstring inside of the vestibule netting while used. It is easy to flip the contents into the trash can after but can fall out while adjusting.

Great concept, but HUGE disappointment! Honestly, I'm so completely shocked. I should have trusted the other reviews, they were absolutely spot on. I just so much LOVED the leaf blower, mulcher and wanted this to work so badly and was so impressed with all of the components of the actually mulcher/blower unit and how well thought out the unit was that I simply couldn't imagine how Black and Decker could fall so short on this component. Unfortunately after just 3 minutes of use it is blatantly clear this is just a piece of trash. I have no idea what research and development did with this incredibly great concept that they could turn this great idea into such a piece of useless garbage, but SHAME ON THEM! I am absolutely convinced that nobody in research and development actually took this unit and attached it to the leaf blower/mulcher and attached it to a trash can and went out side to a real yard and attempted to vacuum leaves because it is literally impossible! Just like all of the other reviewers describe, it is a comedy of errors! You are trying to bend down and vacuum the leaves and get tangled in the extention cord and at the same time the pins come loose on the attachment of the hose where it meets the vacuum and it comes loose and breaks apart and then when you get that attached again a few second later the trash can falls over and then the cord that tightens around the trash can lid loosens and the cover comes off of the trash can and the mulch starts blowing all over the place and in your eyes.... It is simply an absolute disaster. The components do not fit well together and are made of very cheap materials and are just not well thought out. The mesh bag that is suppose to go over the trash can allows all of the dust from the mulch to escape from the compost and blow up in your face the entire time so if you have allergies or even if you don't your eyes will swell up in a matter of moments. The smarter thing to do would have been to install the vacuum tube into a trash can lid that can fit into any standard trash can -- or better yet a 55 gallon barrel which can be wheeled around on a dolly. As to why they would not design the pins to fit securely into the opposite side of the tubing is absurd as well. Again, I am just in shock that this product can be as poorly designed as it is. Further more, how is it still even on the market?????

I have a B&D LH4500 blower/vac, and love it for its sheer power and performance. That baby sucks up anything that isn't bolted down. However B&D shoulder bags are an abysmal mess, not worthy of purchasing. The shoulder bags are cheap and don't even make it through one autumn before gaping holes appear in them. I think this is how B&D really makes their money - by people having to replace the shoulder bags twice a year. Anyway... I bought this collection system to see if it would be any better, and behold! It actually is! It's not rocket science - comes with a couple of different adapters made for different B&D blower/vacs, and snaps right on just like the shoulder bag. It does what it's supposed to, but it took a little experimenting to get it that way. Here's the trick: You have to lay the trash can down on the ground, on its side, so that the leaves blow in sideways. This may sound weird, but it really works. The vac is more than powerful enough to blow through the leaves that accumulate in the 'overturned' trash can, and when I did this, I was able to fill the can completely every time. This does several things: 1. Significantly extends the reach of the hose. 2. Keeps the can from tipping over, because it's already tipped over. 3. Allows you to fill the can absolutely full, until the cover is ready to blow off. 4. It's actually easier to move around laying on its side, and is far more stable. Also, take the time to pre-rake the leaves into lines. They don't have to be neat lines, just enough so that the leaves aren't spread all over the yard. I've always done this anyway, even before getting this collection system, because it makes vacuuming them a LOT faster. It may seem like it takes longer to do this, but it makes the whole leaf cleanup process go much faster overall. So, why 4 stars instead of 5? I've noticed the same problem as others. The hose disconnects from the top of the cover pretty easily, which is a pain, because I have to stop from time to time, to reattach it. It's easy enough to do, but is a nuisance. B&D would probably say it's to keep the user from damaging the cover, but I think it's just a bad design. I'm going to work on a better fastening system, and if I come up with anything I'll update this review. Overall, this is roughly 1.758 million times better than the really terrible shoulder bags that B&D sells, so I highly recommend it. Takes a little getting use to, but well worth it once you get the hang of it.

It work as advertised. A bit awkward in installing the mesh part on to your collection bin of choice. The weight of the hose keep dislodging it before I can secure it to bin with the provided cord. Collection bin with a lip will definitely help to ensure the netting part stay on better. The mesh netting is quite thin, longevity might be an issue. Overall I like the product.
