A Better Tomorrow II [Blu-ray]

Blu Ray Review: Kam & Ronson version. Another good release by this company. It appears the results are always the same with all their Blu-Rays. A little questionable audio but good picture quality with good subtitles. But these releases are better than most the DVD's out there right now. I say $20 dollars is worth it unless you are hard on John Woo films. Extras include a trailer and Code Of Bullets thing. I don't know what it is.Movie Review: Yes, why this movie gets mixed reviews is because for some the story is disjointed and a bit incoherent. Understand this movie was cut like a b**** by Tsui Hark in which resulted in Woo and Tsui's split. I would love to see a director's cut version of this movie to see if it will improve. 1% CHANCE OF THAT HAPPENING! F***S! Anyways, I liked the movie. I agree the story is a little iffy and the character interaction is somewhat meaningless in certain areas while the first was more meaningful and deep; all in all it's all about the action and that is where this movie impresses the most especially the final moments. LOTS OF DEAD PEOPLE! YAY! So screw the lots of yous!Conclusion: 4 stars for the Blu Ray (questionable audio) and 4 1/2 for A Better Tomorrow 2.

This was when Anchor Bay was releasing awesome dvds. And I'm pretty sure these are the only U.S. versions you can get that have an English audio option. But all that aside, these are fantastic films with all the nice slo mo shootouts you'd expect. Especially in A Better Tomorrow II. This may be a little pricey, but highly recommend picking this set up.

I'll keep it simple. If you liked the first movie, you'll love this one. If you hated the first movie, maybe give this one a try, it's similar in pacing to the original but somewhat more entertaining. If you haven't watched the first movie, then what the Hell are you doing with your life?

So here's the plot in a nut shell. One of the main characters (Sung Tse-ho) gets a parole chance out of prison, in exchange for spying on his former boss (Lung Sei) who is suspected of leading a counterfeiting operation. But Lung Sei gets framed for a murder. But Tse-ho is still loyal to his old boss. He eventually helps Sei (His boss) escape from Hong Kong to New York City. Soon we get to see (Mark Lee) Twin Brother (Ken) working in a New York hong Kong restaurant. Ken is just as cool and as Mark. While it's nice that we have a character like Ken, I just find it a bit far fetched that Mark (who is played by Chow Yun Fat) supposedly has a twin brother who is just as good with a gun as he is. But only John Woo can make it somewhat believable! The action here is great and as over the top as ever. It is really cool to see a Honk Kong film partly based in New York City. While the shootouts are good in this movie "especially in the final showdown" I don't find them quite as good as in the first movie (BUT not by much). I just felt A better tomorrow 1, though over the top, I felt it was more down to earth. But not to say that A Better Tomorrow 2 is a bad movie. It is far from that! I still really enjoyed the action & story here. If you liked A Better Tomorrow 1, then this sequel is a must see!!! I highly recommend buying this on Blu-ray. Since it is much much better in video quality than the DVD!

チョーユンファの代表作一作目で死んだ筈が復活したりレスリーチャンの楽曲がまたいい場面で流れるクライマックスにかけての復讐戦これでもかと言わんばかりに撃ちまくり投げまくり　みんないい役だし男なら惚れ痺れる筈

lots of good action movie from chow yun fat

I am very happy with my DVD even thoe I brought the Italy one the reason is because that this film is very rare and is out of print I seen people selling this for about £20-£30 pounds. I managed to get this for £7 pounds which was a great price considering how expensive the film is and the film came very quickly It came in about four days I through that the film would taken longer considering it was coming from Italy.The film also was brand new which was good now on to the film I had seen the first film and liked it and really wanted to watch this one and took me a while to get this one because I din,t want to pay a high price for it. The film its self is brilliant great story and great acting the film does take a while to get going but it has plenty of action just takes a while to get there but it din,t bother me I loved the story and loved iteven more when the action kicked in.If your a John Woo fan buy if your a action fan buy.I love all John Woo films he is great and I had a great Saturday sat back and had a great afternoon watching this film.One thing to say it took me a while to change the language to English it dubbed in English but because this is the Italy version your have to put up with subtitles but at least the audio was in English and in the end I just ignored the subtitles and manned to enjoy the film shame you cannot turn them off.

Un poco eccessivo rispetto al primo episodio, almeno per quanto riguarda i temi scelti, tipici del cinema che vuol far colpo e vuol commuovere gli spettatori completamente. Evito le citazioni per chi ama il poliziesco mozzafiato. Unica pecca, nella versione italiana, la non fedele aderenza della traduzione. Questo getta luci molto diverse sui personaggi e la vicenda, e sminuisce un'opera d'arte.

『男たちの挽歌II』(英雄本色II/A Better Tomorrow II)('87)出演∶チョウ・ユンファ、ティ・ロン、レスリー・チャン、ディーン・セキ、ケネス・ツァン、エミリー・チュウ、シャン・クァン、レジーナ・ケント、ン・マンタ、ラウ・シウミン、ルン・ミンヤン、レオン・ミン、ピーター・ワン監督∶ジョン・ウー最後に主人公が死んでしまう大ヒット映画・TVは数多い。続編を作りたいが困った例も数え切れない。生前の主人公の"前日譚"やら回想混じりのスピンオフなど､苦心の続編も多くある。主人公に双子の兄弟がいたという設定は(シロウトでも思いつくが)､気恥ずかしくて実際に作った例は少ないと思う。"それ"を堂々と(?)実行してしまうあたり､さすが香港映画(笑)　まぁ､それだけチョウ・ユンファのヒーロー像は捨て難かったのだろう｡(ちなみにシリーズ第3作は"前日譚"のパターンを使っている(笑))今でも､このシリーズのDVD・blu-rayを見るたび､超クサいパターンの香港映画に熱狂した'80年代〜'90年代を思い出す。そういえば'70年代ハリウッドの代表的傑作『ポセイドン・アドベンチャー』の大ヒットを受けて持ち上がった続編企画で､死んだ主人公の双子の兄弟を主人公に据えるという案があったがポシャったという話を聞いた気がするが､香港映画は『男たちの挽歌』の続編で､躊躇なく"双子パターン"を使ってきたわけです(笑)しかし､この続編､安直でハンパな続編じゃなかった。双子パターンの安っぽさの印象などフッ飛ばすほどの超弩級アクション・エンターテインメントだ。昔の西部劇ヒーローなどが"一撃必殺"を旨としていたハリウッド娯楽アクションの伝統を嘲笑うように､無数の銃弾や手投げ弾が飛び交い､二挺拳銃は当たり前で､一人殺すのに数10発(?)の弾丸を撃ち込むなどド派手な"ムダ弾の美学"とでも言うべき新機軸アクションは､その後のハリウッド映画にも大きな影響を与えることになる｡[物語] 香港の犯罪組織の大幹部ホー(ティ・ロン)は「最後の大仕事」で裏切りに遭い､刑務所送りに。ホーの相棒で親友マーク(チョウ・ユンファ)は､裏切者に報復を果たすが自らも敵弾を受け不自由な体となり組織幹部から失墜。出所後のホーがカタギになるのを妨害し､落ちぶれたマークを踏みつけにする新体制の組織に対し､我慢の限界の２人は復讐を遂げるが､ホーは再逮捕､マークは命を落とす｡(ここまで第1部)服役中のホーは､仮出所の見返りに警察から偽札製造組織の捜査協力を依頼される。昔の兄貴分で今はカタギのはずのルン(ディーン・セキ)が疑われていると知り断るが､ルンが重役を務める造船会社に､ホーの実弟で刑事のキット(レスリー・チャン)が潜入捜査していると知り､協力することになる。実はルンの腹心の部下のコー(シャン・クァン)こそが偽札組織のボスで､ルンはワナに落ち､偽札製造の容疑の上､殺人の濡れ衣まで着せられる｡ホーは自分の後見人のタクシー会社社長キン(ケネス・ツァン)に頼み､ルンをアメリカ N.Y.に逃がす。N.Y.には､亡き盟友マークの弟でルンとも馴染のケン(チョウ・ユンファ:二役)がいるはずだった。だが､コーの魔手はN.Y.にまで及ぶ。愛娘ペギー(レジーナ・ケント)がコーの手に掛かって死んだことを知ったルンは､精神に異常を来たす。コーの刺客からルンを救ったのはケンであった｡事件に関わったせいで自分のレストラン事業にも支障を来たしたケンは､痴呆状態のルンを引きずりながらも､コーの殺し屋軍団を返り討ちに遭わせる。ケンのお陰で正気を取り戻したルンは､ケンとともに復讐のために香港へ戻る。香港で待っていたホー､キット､キンと合流した彼らは､要塞のような邸宅で巨額の偽札取引きを進めるコーの組織に命知らずの戦いを挑むことになる……｡この当時の香港映画のツネで､脚本のアラを探せばキリがない。ツッコミどころは満載だが､とにかくエキサイティングで面白いから多少のことは､目をつぶろう(多少か!?)。昔もてはやされた日活アクション映画のスターだった石原裕次郎や小林旭を彷彿とさせるチョウ・ユンファの佇まい。彼が､絵に描いたような悪党どもを殺しまくる展開は､あまりにベタだが痛快極まりない。日活アクションでは､よく悪役で"謎の中国人"が出てきたが､こちらは敵も味方も全部中国人だ(笑)この続編『挽歌Ⅱ』で妙に気に入ったキャラクターは､コーの組織のストイックなプロの殺し屋チョン(ルン・ミンヤンとかいう俳優さん)。絵に描いたような悪人揃いの中で､金には興味を示さず､ガンマンとしての力量を示すことだけに生き甲斐を覚える異色の存在。団体戦の撃ち合いの中で､目をつけた"ライバル"との１対１の勝負にこだわるサマをカッコいいと見るか､「アホやん」と嗤うかは個人の好みでしょう(笑)[余談] 初めてジョン・ウー監督作品のアクション・シーンに触れた時から､バイオレンス映画の巨匠サム・ペキンパーの多大な影響を感じていたが､この映画のN.Y.の安ホテルでの銃撃戦シーンは､ペキンパーの『ゲッタウェイ』のクライマックス・シーンへのオマージュに見えます。もっとも､こちらは"クライマックス"などではなくて､"前座"にしか過ぎないが……。クライマックスのホー､ケン､ルンのたった３人での敵陣殴り込みシーンは､やはりペキンパーの『ワイルドバンチ』を意識した!?
