So Cute!!!
I bought this MP3 player for my 6 yr old twins for Xmas. They love music and are always stealing my CD's. I also wanted them to have a way to listen to Irish music to practice their dance steps. They love them and so do I! This player is so easy to use, and downloading the music was as easy as copying a file to a memory stick. There arent any fancy playlist options but who cares! All I know is that the backseat of my car is no longer a battle zone for which song to put on the radio. They each have their Barbie player earplugs in and little smiles on their faces. And who can beat the price!!! They are also just as interested in changing the little outfits that come with the player. I highly recommend this as an inexpensive way to give your kid her own music without paying for a complicated MP3 player.

6 Months after Christmas and it still gets the most use!
The Barbie Girls MP3 player is a great way to introduce small children to electronics. I purchased two of these for a 5 year old and a 6 year old, and they both LOVE them. Some of the complaints here I think are directed at an older audience, such as the volume being low. As a parent, I'm GLAD the volume is low because I don't want my kids cranking up the tunes too loud anyway. It's true that you can't see what song is coming up next, but really, my 5 and 6 year old don't care. Plus, 6 months after Christmas, when most of the toys are broken or forgotten, these MP3 players are still in constant rotation. This was the best buy this past holiday season

Good starter mp3 player for very young girls
My 8 year old daughter got this for Christmas. If you get one of these, don't pay more than $20 for it. As with most others she wanted it for the extra online stuff (a few extra items kids can "buy" with the B-bucks they earn playing games and "movies" on the site.), which is only good for a year from the time of registration. She has already lost the snap on pieces and the bottom of the player, and the buttons stick and skip over songs. On the positive side: it is very easy to get music onto it. It also has a clip on it so she clips it to a belt loop so she doesn't lose it or drop it. The earbuds it comes with have 3 different size "covers" so they will fit pretty much anyones ears.

Totally Fantabulistic!!!
Santa brought this for my 9 year old daughter who is a Webkinz fanatic. She had this on the top of her Santa List! For me, the software is easier than I-tunes (uses Media Player) and we had her CD's burned in no time! She also got the 'deco pak' that you can order and has decorated the ear buds. It is so cute! You can't beat the deal with having an online play area that is safe with parent controls and an MP3 player to carry around! I even sat with her and we watched the 'movies' and listened to the 'songs' on the Barbie Girl world----all totally age appropriate and Barbie-like such as the 12 Princesses and Mermania! You can't get a better toy they will play with all year long!

Good product, fun site
The main appeal of this toy was the fact that it is an MP3 player and my daughter is a music-lover (Bratz music is her favorite, ironically). I introduced my 8-year-old (soon to be nine, which is, I think, the targeted age here) to the barbiegirls.com website a few days before Christmas to heighten her interest in the toy's web benefits. The site is like Second Life-lite for nine-year-old girls - and as Mattel was smart enough to make a good deal of it free to access (unlike Be-Bratz, which my daughter also received for Christmas), you can register there before even buying the toy in order to get an idea of how it functions. It really needs more games, but my daughter has fun chatting, sending and receiving e-mails, and visiting other girls' rooms (chatting and e-mail consists of sending pre-written messages with an exception made for girls who know each other personally and can access each others computers - a feature my daughter hasn't used yet). The toy itself is a good size for a child (not small enough to be easily lost), the volume is loud enough but doesn't blast (which is a good thing), and it has a fun fashion changing feature. The software worked perfectly with my system (PC, Windows Vista) and it was easy to both register online, giving her full access to the site, and download songs. My only complaint was that one earbud didn't work, however, customer service was friendly and responsive, and assured me a new set was on the way. Overall, this gift was a winner.

Software doesn't work, can't get online
Despite my misgivings base on other reviews I bought this for my daughter for Christmas. It was at the top of her list, largely because of the Barbie.com site and the promised secret codes included with this item. Frankly I am appalled at what is essentially blackmail, but one cannot explain that to a 9 year old. Anyway...I cannot get the software to work. I loaded it on the computer and it keeps telling me "application failed." I am not a computer idiot and my system more than meets the hardware requirements. I was able to load music on the player via Windows Media Player, but I have a VERY UNHAPPY little girl. While the player seems worth the $20 I paid, it would be a utter rip-off at the original $80 price. Message for Mattel - This is the last time I buy anything from you...and now my little girl concurs!

Good idea but poor quality
I bought this for my 9 year-old daughter who was mainly interested in unlocking all the features you get on Barbiegirl.com when you purchase this product. We've had it about a week and the headphones are broken (poor wiring connection in the plug makes the sound go in and out). A co-worker of mine is on his third as the first two had problems with the player itself. Also, the instructions are not great so it takes some trial and error to get it right (for instance, the CD you need to install is "hidden" in the base). Now, that's my perspective. My daughter still likes it and enjoys the expanded features on barbiegirl.com so she is more forgiving than I am.
