Excellent deal for the money
I like Sony products, and this cassette player/recorder works perfect for our meetings... The organization we are working with requires cassettes for recording... Great quality!

Sony Std. Cassette Portable
My wife is addicted to books on tape, she listens to them while she works around the house. As such, she is very destructive to the cheaper off brand players. Purchased this model for a few extra dollars, it is heavier with a more "solid" feel to it. Nice features, good sound, name brand and as a bonus it is a recorder also. I think this one should have a better survival rate. I'll be sure to amend this review if it doesn't.

Great cassette player
It’s an expensive cassette player but it’s high quality and worth the price.

Stopped working after about 12 uses
It worked fine at first and I enjoyed having it, but after about 12 uses it started having problems. First I thought it was the tape - it would play ok for a bit then the sound would distort and become very faint, then no sound at all. Then I tried 2 other tapes and the same thing happened. Dang!

VERY CONVENIENT TO CARRY/TRANSPORT
The Sound Quality Is Great and The Functions Are Easy To Use. Very Convenient To Carry Around. Any Two Double AA Batteries Will Last For A Long Time In This Unit. The Quality of This Tape Recorder/Player is Very Durable.

Works fine (5 stars worth)
Works fine (5 stars worth), much better than anything else I have tried- but only lasts 2 years (daily use), so less stars for rating. I have bought 3 of them so far and its the same each time. They are getting more and more expensive and I am looking for alternatives. Does not allow for different speeds of tapes. The Sony TCM-200DV Standard Cassette Voice Recorder (Discontinued by Manufacturer) did but not longer available.

The best one I have found on the market so far.
I remember purchasing this item a few years ago for $39.00. I don’t believe that the value for the money at this point is good . Sound quality not bad and it’s easy to use.

Worked for a month, then malfunctioned
I had high hopes for this vintage used Sony tape recorder, but after an optimistic start, it started warbling on playback just after the 30 day return window had closed. Disappointing, especially because I made enquiries about its quality before ordering and was assured by the seller it would be fine. Not much I can do about it now.
