AIRCARE MA Whole-House Console-Style Evaporative Humidifier (Console)

Whole Home Humidifer... yes finally! This claims to cover over 3000 sqft and it does! I have an open, vaulted ceiling open floor plan. I placed this in the kitchen central to the main living areas (not including the upstairs) and it easily covers the 2000 sqft of main living area to include a master suite that sits right off the great room with little effort. It works so much better than the ones that spit out mist as this one is evaporative and the fan disperses the moisture out into the air better. It is quiet for the type of humidifier it is aka it uses a fan to blow the moisture throughout the home. Noise: It’s quiet. Based on the unit sitting approx 17ft from the tv and main living area: The noise is barely detectable at fan speed F1 (unless your home is super quiet as in no tv or radio). Fan speed F2 is like a very subtle white noise again nothing that impacts everyday living in the home. After a few minutes of F2 you won’t notice it. Fan speed F3 is noticeable but again I can still watch tv without it annoying me. Fan speed F4 (max) is loud and I only used that for about an hour on initial set up. Efficiency of Fan Speeds: I find that the unit works best at F1 and F2 unless I have a drastic drop in humidity (the unit might run out of water as I sleep or if I’m out running for the day). The Auto Setting: This setting works great but you must be sure to have independent Hygrometers in your rooms to gauge the humidity because the one that is on the cord reads higher because of it’s close proximity to the unit than 10, 20, 30ft from the unit. I have one set near where we sit most of the time as well as one in the master suite. Be sure to use the salt/water n cup method to test your hygrometers as they can vary. My living room one is digital and reads 1 to 2 lower than what the actual humidity is so I just add 1 or 2 to whatever it is displaying. The hygrometer in my master reads 3 low. In my home the unit hygrometer that is on the cord reads about 6 to 7 higher than the area we are actually sitting in. Once I figured that out I was able to set the unit on Auto at 60 and it keeps my area around 53 to 55 humidity depending on outside temps and how much my heat or fireplace is running. These settings will vary from owner to owner so be sure to test your hygrometers and then vs the cord hygrometer and see what works for you. I have asthma and 48 to 55 is a comfortable level for me but if higher than say 58 for too long and i can start having issues as anything higher than 60 can start to produce mold and mildew issues. —With all that being said about the fan speeds and the use of auto I tend to like manual control and use the F1 to F2 as my homes needs change. At night or if I’m going to be away for the day I will use Auto mode to be sure that the humidity won’t get too high. Filling the unit: the side container that comes off is easy to handle and easily fits over/in a kitchen sinks to fill. On initial set up you will need to do two full fills and if you are like me after the second one glugs (it does gurgle on fill up) in i then top off the container. Maintenance: This unit is easy to maintain and clean to include the filter it comes with. I did purchase the bacteriostat to add to my tap water fills. I only use about 1/8th of the cap per fill up of the tank. It would cost me too much to purchase distilled water for my homes needs as I do fill it first thing in the morning and then just before bed (about 14 hours later). That can vary depending on the fan speed you’re running. Every morning I flip the filter to keep one end from drying up more than the other. I recommend doing a full clean of the unit about once every 5 to 7 days. Cleaning it is very easy. The base Is light with very few grooves in it and it is easy to clean in a kitchen sink. I use dawn dish soap but I know others use vinegar. Either works as there is very little to no build up cleaning it at this frequency. It’s is important to keep it cleaned, remember you and your family are breathing the air that comes from it. Filters: The manufacturer of the filters state that one filter can do one full season. I personally will require a filter every two months because I’m very cautious about what I’m breathing and after a couple months the filter will start to dry out, get yellow and even brown. That is what it is supposed to do, it’s catching the bad stuff so you don’t breathe it. Once mine begins to look more yellow than white I change it. You don’t have to, it is just something I do and the filters are not expensive for the peace of mind it gives me. Warnings: I noted some reviewers saying that the casters for the wheels crack the unit so I decided to not use the wheels. The unit does not require the use of the wheels. Mine sits on my kitchen tile level and it moves with ease. If you want to give it a little lift or you are placing it on a wood floor then I would recommend getting the felt round pads that you can stick to the bottom of things for protection. Wallyworld sells them and they are very inexpensive. Wrap up! This unit exceeds my expectations. It is quiet and efficient in comparison to many other more expensive units I tried before this one that claimed extra large square footage and efficiency.

UPDATE (2/2/25): After owning this humidifier for 8 years, I looked back on my reviews and can't believe that I rated it at 3 stars. Comparted to the warm mist humidifiers that I was accustomed to, this one is miles better. No need to clean it, just throw the wick out and put a new one in. Sure, the wicks cost extra money, but I'll pay that for the time savings that it gives you any day. And yeah, the humidity gauge is inaccurate, but over time I've learned to adjust the target humidity level to compensate for the inaccuracy. And another big plus about this unit is the tank size. The tank is huge, and the fact that you have to fill it up less often is a big plus. Not to mention - this humidifier has lasted 8 years for me! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall, this is a decent unit. I haven't owned any other cool mist evaporative humidifiers, so don't have anything to compare it to. I bought this unit to replace a warm mist humidifier which works well, but is a huge pain to clean. I've only owned this Aircare unit for a week, so I'll add to my review if anything changes. Here's what I see as the pro's and con's so far: PROS: -EASY TO CLEAN: This is the biggest plus for me, since this unit is replacing a warm mist humidifier I have which is a PITA to clean. You'll have to add bacteriostat to the water to keep it from getting dirty. This isn't too much of an issue - you just add a fraction of a capful each time you fill the tank. I am currently using the Essick Air bacteriostat which was recommended by Amazon. I've only ran it for a week, but there is no build up, vs. my warm mist humidifier which will have a thin layer of scale within a week. With this evaporative design, I can't imagine it getting anywhere near as dirty as the warm mist humidifier which it is replacing. This is probably as close to maintenance free as it gets. -LARGE TANK: Tank size is stated as 3.6 gallons, but that must be the capacity of the bottom tray and the tank combined. Nonetheless, its large enough to keep you from having to fill it too often. CONS: -FAN NOISE: The fan noise is not awful... probably only slightly louder than you would expect, but I was hoping that they would have put more effort into making it quieter. I have this humidifier in my kitchen, and with the fan set on the lowest setting, I can clearly hear it turn on while I'm sitting in my living room. As I said, it's not awful, but loud enough that I would not want to have it in my living room. If you sleep with a fan on like I do, you could put this humidifier in your bedroom and it wouldn't be an issue as it would provide some good white noise. I need to have it on the main level of the townhouse I'm living in, however, so was hoping for something quieter. -INNACCURATE HUMIDITY READING: As far as I can tell, the humidity gauge on this unit is WAY off. When the gauge on the humidifier is reading 60% RH, my wall mounted humidity gauge only reads 48%. Of course, I'm not comparing it to a calibrated hygrometer or anything, just to a wall-mounted thermometer/hygrometer combo, but I'm inclined to believe the wall mounted gauge over the reading on the humidifier. The humidity reading on the humidifier rises WAY too fast for it to be accurate. For example, the unit will read 58%, will turn on for a minute, and after a minute will read 60% then shut back off. There's no way that it raises the humidity that fast. The humidity sensor is on the power cable, so the farthest you can get if from the unit is 6 inches. Regardless, I don't think having the sensor too close to the unit is the problem. I can take my wall mounted hygrometer and put it next to the sensor on the humidifier, and it still doesn't read as high as the humidifier does. For the price, I guess you get what you pay for. Overall this is a decent unit, but with the how inaccurate the humidity reading is, I'm wondering if it will be effective in the winter. Also, I'm interested to see how much it will be running when the cold weather really gets here. If it's running non-stop, the constant fan noise could get annoying. Time will tell...

Note: Filter is not washable, and will need to replaced. Life of the filter will vary home by use. I wish I would have known that to begin with as it would have affected my decision to purchase this item. The filter's aren't terribly expensive, but I would have preferred a reusable one. I can feel the difference of the moisture in the air and on my skin. I'm no longer shocking everything I touch including the dog, my flyaways in my hair have reduced slightly, also my skin isn't as dry and itchy I have a Heat Pump Central Air Conditioning system in my two story home and I put this close to our return air duct. When I notice the humidity is getting low downstairs I will use my Nest Thermostat to turn the fan on downstairs to cycle the air. Since the Humidifier is upstairs next to the return air duct, I find that I'm constantly bringing up filtered water upstairs. I leave the setting on automatic at 60. Our upstairs stays at 53-55ish so long as there's water, and the downstairs is about 43. When running on automatic the highest setting is pretty loud, but it won't stay on that way forever, the lower settings are surprisingly quiet. The loudest setting isn't loud enough to keep me up from sleep as this is just outside our bedroom. If you keep your humidifier upstairs I recommend getting a 3 gallon water jug or larger to make the trips less often, unless your filling it with tap water, I fill mine downstairs which is where our reverse osmosis water filter is at. I started adding 1 cap (1 tsp / 5 ml) of each the Holmes Humidifier Bacteriostat and BestAir 3BT-6 Original BT Humidifier Bacteriostatic Water Treatment 32 oz. on 10/11/12 per other user's recommendation. I fill an old pill bottle of each and use a syringe to measure out the recommended amount.I am going to swap to BestAir 246 Golden Solution II Combination Water & Bacteriostatic Treatment 64 oz. once the two existing bottles are gone. With the fan consistently running on auto I've only just now needed to reorder a new filter and its been just over 2 months since I've started using it. I have turned it over as per other recommendations and will try the vinegar bath for it or test running the old filter through the dishwasher like another user posted. My only negative comment would be that my downstairs can be significantly drier than my upstairs if the AC/Heat isn't running. I can either choose to let it stay dry downstairs or run the heat pump fans to circulate the air.

We purchased this evaporative humidifier for several reasons: a.) capacity and b.) overall comments from other owners. We were not disappointed. So a few comments of my own: 1.) Noise. The unit is relatively quiet although it would be a bit noisy to have in a bed room. We have the unit on our second floor blowing out over a balcony so the noise is not noticeable and seems to handle the whole home humidity with ease (~2500 sq. ft.). It does make a "gurgling" sound when the level of water in the base drops and the tank releases water into the base. 2.) Capacity. The unit holds approximately 2 gallons in the base and 2 in the tank on the end. In our area when outside temperatures drop into the low twenties and teens the unit will easily go through 2 gallons in a day set at "35%". The humidity sensor controlling on/off for the unit can be set in 5% increments from 25% to 65%. By using their setting of 35% we run around 40-45% near the outside walls. 3.) Set up. Some comments indicated that the unit seemed a bit flimsy. Initially, right out of the box, I might have agreed but the design works well. The side tank can be removed for filling without having to do anything to the operation of the unit. However, be sure to fill the tank BEFORE you add any chemicals (such as a bacteristat)....the chemicals typically foam when you add them first and then water. The mfg. recommends not placing the unit on a rug...possibly so it is easier to roll around or discover leaks (if any...although we haven't seen any). This issue is easily solved using a 3/4 piece of plywood on the rug and four rubber chair tips (the flat, round kind) so the unit won't vibrate off the plywood. 4.) Cleaning. The simplicity of the design is evident when the side tank is empty and you remove it and the top portion containing the fan. The base can easily be lifted and residual water dumped out and the base cleaned. One thing we found: do NOT squeeze or wring the wicking filter. Once it is wet it will tear relatively easily. If it is allowed to stand and drain in between rinses it is easy to clean. One thing missing - which I somehow probably overlooked but still can't seem to find - is a list of replacement parts. There's not much to go wrong with this unit; the only routine replacement part is the filter which appears to be readily available (we bought an extra one just in case). But if you wanted to replace the fan, the humidity meter (built into the cord), the control module or the float (which signals when the unit needs filling) it is not clear if these components are available. For the price it might be simpler to buy a new one but that goes against my DNA. I would strongly suggest using a commercial Bacteristat solution; vinegar, while effective for many things, is not something I would chose to use in an evaporative humidifier with the release of the acetic acid fumes into the area and potential corrosion of surrounding electronics. My old Lasko humidifier was leaky. So bad I'd have to keep it in a plastic bin. Then the fan stopped, overheated and began melting. Luckily I was home and awake and got it outside. But the smell of burnt plastic lasted for quite a while. While waiting to decide on a new one I had to use my Crock Pot to keep humidity in check. I did a lot of reading before buying. My target was one under $100.00 It was down to this and a Honeywell. I am SO SICK of the "Paid for Reviews" that promise they are "Honest", which were all over the Honeywell product, so I decided to go with this one, which had REAL reviews all over the internet. And, I am glad I did. I was pessimistic after my previous experiences with humidifiers, but it was better than expected. I was a little worried when I saw how it gets filled. I thought it would leak before I could turn the water carrier over to insert it, I was surprised when I turned it over no water leaked from it while I carried it all the way to the unit. I also keep a 5 gal water bottle close so I can fill the bottom faster, rather than having to take two trips to the bathtub to fill the water container, although it takes less than a minute or so. And one complete filling lasts me a day for my open kitchen/living room area. I also like the auto-shut-off when it's empty, which my last one didn't have, BUT, I do prefer if stay running rather than shutting off when it hits a certain humidity. I like the white-noise. An easy solution to that was to just set the humidity to really high setting so it does stay on. I was concerned after about a week because the fan started making a little tick, but all I did was remove the top and put it back together and it seems to be gone. There's only a few things that keep it from being perfect. 1. The way the filter/wick fit. Some pieces of the filter get dry on the top. I worry that will cause some smell after time, For now I flip it over every week, but trying to get the top part of the filter in the grooves to hold it in place, is a small challenge when it's wet and floppy. I think a filter holder or longer guides would make it better. This is really nit-picking though, because it's only a small part of the top that does this. 2. I would also have liked for the Water carrier to have been shorter, and wider, so it could fit under my kitchen faucet. But bringing down to the bathroom isn't too bad, and it fills wicked fast. 3. Also with the water carrier, I would have liked a way to fill it from the top as an alternative. 4. I wish I could direct the air flow. With the front slightly higher, you would think the air is going back instead of forward. But it seems to be blowing straight up and working for my room, so it's nit-picking again and really not an issue. 5. I would have paid a little more for a little more water capacity, but this set-up works for me. The water isn't too heavy to carry and it does last over 24 hours per fill-up. In the end, it is pretty much perfect for my needs. Thanks go out the the other "REAL" reviewers here, and elsewhere, that helped me find this product. NOTE: 2-20-2016 My Main concern was a weird noise I heard from time to time. It was a simple band-aid fix, literally. What happens is when my fan is on F2 and the filler tank empties, there's a small vibration of it tapping against the case. A light sound, but enough to be disturbing when I try to sleep. I can re-fill the tank so it's not so light to vibrate, but I ended up putting one of the kids Hello-Kitty band-aids on between the main unit and the tank to stop the light tapping. I really like the size, functionality and ease of use of this thing. It's perfect for me.

Winters in Wisconsin are very cold and dry, resulting in a lot of static electricity if you don't have enough humidity in the air. It was getting so bad in our house that whenever we touched a light switch, anything with fabric, or each other, we would would get shocked and I didn't feel safe about that at all so we decided to look into a whole house humidifier because we hoped the benefits of purchasing and maintaining a humidifier would greatly outweigh the costs. We did a lot of research on humidifiers but most of the ones we found had a lot of poor reviews and we didn't want to spend a lot of money on a humidifier that wouldn't last us for awhile. My husband came across this one and we both agreed that it was the best one we'd found so far so we ordered it. When we got it, we opened up the box and found that it is very easy to set up. This humidifier is approximately 14" by 20" by 20" and is fairly lightweight yet durable (I have three-year-old twins who are curious about everything and this humidifier is still in great shape after over four consecutive months of use). It is designed for homes up to 3600 square feet. Ours is about 3200 square feet, including the basement, and this humidifier kept the entire house moist enough so we hardly had any static throughout the dry winter. The humidifier has four casters so it's very easy to roll it around the house while it's filled, even on carpet. It holds 3 1/2 gallons of water between the base and the bottle and this can last as little as a day or as long as a week, depending on your settings, how often it runs, and how dry it is.The settings include four fan speeds, humidity control, and the power button. The digital display will also tell you the percentage of humidity it senses right by the humidifier, which may be different in other parts of your house. The humidifier will tell you when you need to fill the water bottle and check the filter. I really like the control lock feature since my kids would definitely play with it (and believe me, they tried) but since we locked it, they aren't able to play around with the settings. You just hold the power button down for five seconds to lock it and the same to deactivate it for when you want to adjust any settings. The humidifier seems to be nicely-designed and has withstood over four months of three-year-old twins trying to play with it. The housing unit feels a bit more flimsy than you'd expect but ours hasn't been destroyed yet. It also is very easy to clean and maintain. The humidifier comes with a filter but you'll need to purchase additional ones. The manual suggests changing the filter once every season you use it or more, depending on the type of water you have. We have very hard water and the initial filter lasted about three months, which is about what I would expect. We purchased the AIRCARE MAF1 Replacement Wicking Humidifier Filter and Essick Air 1970 Humidifier Bacteriostatic Treatment, 1-Quart with our humidifier. This humidifier is off-white and nice because it looks good without being an eyesore. We have ours between our bedrooms in our hallway and it worked so well for us during the time we used it. I included a picture of it so you can see what it looks like in our house. There is some noise from the fan when it runs but you can adjust the fan speeds and we keep our doors closed at night anyway so it sounds more like white noise and didn't bother me at all after the first couple days. I'm a light sleeper so I woke up quite a bit the first couple nights. Within the first 24 hours of having this humidifier run, I noticed a huge difference in the humidity in our house! I no longer got zapped when I put a blanket on myself, picked up one of my kids, and turned on a light. My hair also stopped standing straight up and I was so grateful. We also had none of the white dust come out of this humidifier like when we had a cool mist humidifier. Overall, we are extremely pleased with the purchase of this humidifier and feel the price we paid is well-worth the benefits we've received. We didn't notice a huge difference in our electricity bill either because once the humidity increased in our house, the furnace didn't have to run nearly as much. We now don't feel unsafe touching light switches, blankets, or each other and our hair no longer sticks up! I anticipate using this humidifier about six months out of the year, from about late October through late April, so this purchase has been very beneficial for us. I'd definitely recommend purchasing this humidifier if you are looking for a whole house one. It is nicely-priced, easy to maintain, and worked so well for us in the four and a half months we used it so far. It's now in storage for the spring and summer but we will bring it out again in the late fall once it starts to get dry. If I come up with any more information to add and/or my opinion of this humidifier changes, I will update this review. Out of all of the humidifiers we researched, this one seemed like the best fit for us and we have been very satisfied with our purchase!

Granted, I've only had it a few days and will update this review if it fails, but so far, I'm so happy with this humidifier! My situation: I live in a 600 SQ foot one bedroom apartment in NYC with dry forced air heat that hovers at 16% humidity on my reader all winter, no matter how low I keep the heat. I also have lots of allergies and get repeated sinus infections all winter which I unsuccessfully try to avoid by using my neti pot and nasal cortisol spray. I know that humidity is a major issue as my sinus issues miraculously disappeared two days after I arrived in Puerto Rico for a trip earlier this month, only to come back as soon as I returned home. The humidifier problem: I've gone through a variety of consumer humidifiers the past few years in the $30 to $100 range, both warm and cool mist, and none of them raise the humidity in my apartment much. I can get it up to $19% (25% is said to be the minimum safe humidity) for a few minutes, but even with the units running in the same room, it shifts back down to 16% on and off. I've had more success boiling a big pot of water all day, which raised the humidity to 25-30%, but I can't do this at night when it's most crucial and who wants to waste that much gas? Living in a small space with no storage, I was reluctant to get a larger unit. Plus humidifiers are damp, wet electronics and hardly last long and I've been trolling reviews the past few winters only to find a lot of faulty models. But this year I was tired of waking up with painful, stuffed sinuses every morning that would eventually lead to the need for antibiotics and the problem had increased to dry scalp and skin, so I knew I had to do something about it. It then occurred to me to search for "industrial humidifier" on amazon and I found this model! This humidifier: It's a simple machine, easy to fill and the filters are cheap. It is really meant for a whole home and isn't as pretty as some of the room humidifiers out there, but it's a fairly small unit (doesn't take up much more cubic space than my last Holmes room humidifier) and I knew I needed something strong. Plus, the price is right for $75 which is much less than some of the fancier room humidifiers, which doing a much better job! The unit brought my whole apartment to 35-40% humidity within two hours and automatically turned the fan off at this point. It periodically turns back on to make adjustments and shuts down when there's no water left, which is a great feature that none of my past humidifiers had. The tank is really easy to fill with little mess and once the apartment's humidity is brought up, it only needs to be refilled once a day. I'm using a mold inhibitor additive with hopes the filter lasts longer, but this (for some reason) makes me sneeze a lot each time it's added so I'm searching for a better option. The fan makes some noise on high, but there are three settings and I've always liked a little white noise at night. My whole apartment is humidified when I run it in the bedroom so I could technically run it outside of the room with the door open if the noise bothered me. I have yet to see how running the unity affects my electric bills and runs long term, but overall I am very happy so far! -----Update! Second winter and still very happy. I understand that some folks are unhappy bc it says it humidifies a whole home. Works great in my one bedroom apartment and the price is amazing compared to other models for that purpose. I assume it would only humidify a whole home if you have proper ventilation to disperse the humidity. Some tips: -use the bacteria inhibited additive they sell on Amazon. It's worth it because your filter will get 5x the life -clean it every 2-4 weeks - don't let stagnant water sit in it when it's not in use. Obvious but some need a reminder Overall, it's saved me from having to take antibiotics for two winters due to sinus infections from my dry air heating. Yes, I use it along with regular sinus salt rinses and also don't eat lots of dairy or sugar, but before I had this humidifier I was still having issues despite this. Get it! Don't delay! It's worth it!

PLEASE do yourself a favor, read this short review, it allows you to see exactly what I am talking about on-line before you even buy the unit etc... Summary of the problem: The controls on the actual unit you get do not at all match the pictures of the controls they show and reference in their Owner's manual for the Essick Model #MA1201 Humidifier additionally all the material is written for the old control switch, so the Owner's Manual is 100% Useless to you It says Model MA12010 on it but you will not be able to use it at all and what good is a useless Owner's manual going to do you when you have a unit that doesn't work! All giving someone an outdated manual will do is escalate their blood pressure. Here you have a non-functioning unit and they give you a completely outdated Owner's Manual, that is adding insult to injury as the old saying goes, may you read this, verify for yourself and be saved that frustration! The owner's manual and on-line pictures are not pictures of the control unit that is on your unit and additionally all the directions in both the on-line manual and the Hard Copy manual that comes with the unit are completely different. they show a 4 button switch and the unit actually has a single 3 button switch. It appears they have totally redone their control switch; and not modified their instructions, and no! you cannot kind of use their instructions,they refer you to switches that don't exist on your unit. I verified that the hard copy manual I received with the unit was the very same one you get at the link I have provided, it is, so what you are seeing and can download from the link I provide is exactly what you will receive with the unit if you buy one. The ACTUAL UNIT you will get! What you have on you MA1201 is the control unit they show in the picture they have of the item. You can click on the picture and magnify the control unit; essentially it is a Digital display with 3 buttons at the right side of it a Green button, A BLUE button and a RED button Green is the fan speed icon (It worked once now not at all, Blue is desired Humidity level 25% to 65%, and the RED button is on/off. I've had my unit in my room and plugged in for less than 5 minutes and the fan speed selection button no longer works, it runs at low speed and additionally it also will no longer allow you to index through the desired humidity settings. We heat with a wood furcace and was never able to get out humidity over 35 in our 2600sq ft 3 story house. Most of the time in the dead of winter it was in the 20s. We have had furnace humidifiers, drum cabinet humidifiers, hot steam humidifiers...nothing ever seemed big enough, or quiet enough. After 10 years of horrible sinus problems and feeling downright terrible all winter after 3 days of having this beauty I feel on cloud 9. My sinusses cleared up after 2 days, the humidity in the house took 1 day to reach our goal and it even supplys enough to shut off at times. I have never been more satified with a product in my whole life. If you have sinus pains as i did, do not hesitate to buy you will not be dissapointed.

Seule solution: utiliser de l'eau de javel pour désinfecter. Excellent humidifier. Able to maintain a constant humidity throughout the house. Easy to use and maintain. I love the fact that you can choose the desired humidity level. (20-60%). Only flaw: the water tank could be a little bigger. Moreover, it is not possible to open it to clean. Only solution: use bleach to disinfect.

El mantenimiento es muy difícil ya que la "mecha" (lo que absorbe el agua para que el aire se humidifique) se rompe con mucha facilidad al abrir el humidificador para ser limpiado. Esta "mecha" no es barata.

I bought this to humidify 1000 sq ft. I went from 30%RH to 45% in about 2 hours - very efficient machine. We have electric heat in that building so the humidifier runs quite a bit. This humidifier runs on 3 fan speeds or "automatic" which is what I use. The highest fan speed is fairly loud but it rarely kicks in on automatic mode. You can set it anywhere between 35% and 65%. If you are debating a smaller unit I recommend this one - it will run less frequently and actually humidify a small home or entire floor.

Ever since we emigrated to Canada in 2014 my husband and I have been plagued with sinusitis owing to the hot, dry air created by our furnace during the winter. We've only had this humidifier a couple of weeks and already we are both free of blocked and infected sinuses. It keeps the humidity in the house at a steady 30%, it's easy to assemble, easy to use and represents excellent value. I can't recommend it highly enough. It has one, tiny drawback and that is that it needs refilling on a daily basis and this can be something of a faff. But it's WELL worth it.
