CURT 17063 Round Bar Weight Distribution Hitch with Sway Control, 14,000 lb

If there is a single purchase you must make with a bumper pull camper, it is a weight distribution hitch. It completely changes the game when driving with a reasonably large trailer. The anti-sway bar is a nice add. The fact that it comes as a unit makes it very easy to attach. I gave it four stars on installation because the sway bar does require you to bolt to the frame. This is going to be difficult for some. But once in place, it is very easy to attach. I believe the same company makes one that does not require bolts in the frame for a little more money. So that might be worth it for those who are nervous about drilling through the frame. Not bolting to the frame also allows you to move the hitch to other campers, so that is something to consider. Back on the topic of the weight distribution hitch. I was driving a Ford Expedition, and it completely changes how it handles. Without it, you get a "wag the dog" feel as the front wheels feel like they are ready to lift off the ground. Once you lock this in place (and adjust properly), you get a smooth ride and your front wheels sit comfortably on the ground, even on bumpy roads. One tip for beginners is this, the weight distribution hitch uses clamps for your frame (as opposed to the sway bar that bolts on). The clamp is tightened with a bolt that presses against the frame. You only need tighten that bolt enough to keep it from moving. Your frame will begin to bend if you just keep cranking, so don't do that. You have to remember, the clamp brackets have a continual downward force and will stay strongly in place with the camper attached. One more thing. This system is heavy. This is a good thing. It is solidly made. But if you yourself are smaller framed, you might need a second person to help you install the hitch and stabilizing bars. Otherwise, just consider it like your free weight lifting gym membership while out on vacation :-) All in all, this was an essential purchase for the camper and I am very happy with how well it works and how easy it is to use once you get past the small learning curve.

I have a new RAM1500 Limited with Air suspension that I tow a 30 foot Airstream trailer with. So, I needed to get an equalizer hitch for it. After searching and reading a lot of reviews and forums, I decided on this CURT hitch. So, I ordered and I installed it. Here is what I found: 1. This s a very well made hitch and has clear directions, which is an enormous plus!!! You will also need to reference your vehicle manual for trailer towing to ensure you also cover any requirements that your vehicle has. Since my truck has air suspension, there are VERY specific things you need to do in addition to the instructions provided by CURT. 2. CURT is quick to answer questions and they provide clear answers. 3. You will absolutely need a Torque wrench to install this!!!!! Do NOT just guess!!!!!!! 4. Ensure you follow lubrication instructions!!! If you do, it is easy to use and quiet!! 5. Remember, torsion bars distribute weight onto tow vehicle, ball height adjusts trailer level, and ball angle adjusts torsion bar height above ground for correct torsion. Chain adjustment adjusts degree of weight transfer. I just completed a 1000 mile trip with the trailer and I could not be happier with the hitch! I would recommend it.

These work great no more swaying stays right with the truck. Great value

Over bought. Way more strength than we needed. Hopefully doesn't cause our trailer to split in half.

This product was a gamer changer for hauling our camper. After seeing the truck squat and feeling the sway when hauling I wanted more confidence and a smoother ride. The quality was great, instructions were easy to follow, and the weight transfer and sway control were remarkable.

Instructions could be a little clearer but it is a nice easy to set up hitch. I should say my son in law bought a round bar WDH for a similar trailer from Harbor Freight that looked exactly the same sans sway bar. I mean identical, close enough to make me wonder if it was made in the same China factory. This one was nice because a lot of it , including the balls, was pre assembled, which saves a lot of work and you need fewer big wrenches.Good hitch for the money, and does a good job when I pull.

This it is awesome and it worked exactly like it is supposed to everything was there as it described in the text and arrived on time as promised

There are two tiny screws on this hitch that hold the retainer clips onto hitch. Both of these screw heads popped off causing the retainer clips to fall off. These retainer clips hold the torsion bars onto the hitch while traveling. Luckily mine done this at home while just sitting and not hooked to the camper. I had towed camper one time with this brand new hitch. Wish I had taken a picture.

This product came very fast . It was well packaged, very good quality and very easy to install . I checked around rv locations and the very same product was much more expensive. I would recommend this product.

This makes an incredible towing difference. Holds the vehicle level and reduces any sway. If you're a Novice like myself Don't tow without one.. Safety is number 1 when towing I totally recommend this product.

Ram 1500 with 10000 lbs towing capacity needs this hitch, highly recommend

Needed this because I have an older trailer that has a little more tongue weight than a 10,000 lb hitch can handle. This one did the job. Shipping was fast. Looks good, works as needed. Sometimes it’s better to upgrade than use the worn out gear that comes with your trailer.
