Who Needs a Security Camera, Linked Ring Lights are Motion Direction Detectors
Pros: These are cool units, buy them in a group of 4 (on special) and you can install them via QR code scan, then attach them to the inexpensive Ring Bridge (included in the package deal) via the Ring App, and when activated it will track motion on all 4 corners of your house/walkways. The Ring notification will tell you when one motion sensor trips, and with successive motion detections you can visualize what way someone is sneaking around your property, all the time the Ring lights are linked so trip one and they all light up bright. It is neat to see them all light up in succession to light the path to your door if that is the way you want them configured. Or they can be linked to Ring wall-mounted PoE Cameras or Battery Ring spotlights to activate in tandem with the path lights to protect your property even better. Despite them staying on at low illumination on a nightly schedule that you set, and only illuminating brightly when motion is detected (staying bright for a minute), they appear to conserve energy from the Duracell Pro D Cells that I used. You can also turn all the Ring lights on at a touch of a button on the Ring App to ward off animals or prowlers. Cons: 4 D Cell batteries are needed (no solar option), but I have only had them for a few weeks so longevity cannot be assessed yet. Don't skimp on the D Cells, go with a brand name for a few cents more per battery (buy in bulk, like 24 per pack), they perform better. and you can load up 6 Ring pathway lights in one install. They can be a tad too tall visually if you have low plantings, so pick the best walkway or corner wall location and don't pick a grass edge that your lawn guy will hit with his tractor or weed-whacker trimmer. (inset it a few inches to keep it from being struck) Ring is Great, expand your system over time, simple to add devices...

One Leaky Pathlight! Update to Update.
Update 9 Jan 2021 - Still working! Ring pathlights still operating on batteries from July 2019. May need replacing in a couple of months. Working great. These do link with Ring doorbell to record motion. No complaints. Installed 5 steplights. Have had to replace one that quit working. Have replaced batteries in three once. Steplights work as intended and provide motion alerts. Overall very pleased with Ring products! ----------------------------------------------- Update 25 Oct 19 - Updating from 3 to 5 stars!! Contacted Amazon who provided a return receipt and refunded a pro-rated cost of light since it was a "deal". But then we received an email from Daniel - Amazon Executive Community Support who specializes in Ring devices. Daniel had read my review and wanted to discuss our issue with the pathlight. He wanted us to return the light to him but unfortunately we had already dropped it off at UPS. These lights are weather resistant so water should not have gotten inside battery compartment. We were provide a replacement. Fantastic customer service from Amazon/Ring! Now to review the lights - we use these lights with our Ring doorbell. Dusk to Dawn is turned off. We have them set to come on after dark if/when motion is detected. A couple are linked to doorbell to record all motion. Brightness is set at 4. Battery level is still full. These lights are wonderful!! (Just added 3 Ring Steplights! May order more if they hold up as well as pathlights.) ------------------------ Purchased 15 July 19. 4 pathlights and bridge. Working beautifully until yesterday when one of the lights quit working. We discovered water inside the battery compartment resulting in corrosion of all 4 D cell batteries. There is also condensation in the glass surrounding lightbulb and condensation in the motion sensor. We brought it inside to dry but the condensation isn't drying up. We checked the other 3 path lights and they were completely dry. I contacted Ring to discuss replacement but the customer service representative said I needed to contact Amazon first (but seemed willing to replace based on Amazon response). Waiting to see what Amazon has to say. Will update if/when I have an answer.

Extra lighting for my Floodlight Camera, response is not immediate, somewhat poor Wi-Fi range
The new Ring smart lighting line is a great compliment to my Ring Floodlight Cameras. In particular, I wanted to light up more of the front of the house when my driveway's floodlight camera detected motion. I purchased four of the new Ring pathlights and a hub. Now, when the driveway light detects motion, it turns on the pathlights. The setup process went smoothly. You plug the hub in and scan a barcode and the app walks you through setup. Then, you do the same with these pathlights... insert batteries into each and scan a barcode from each box. At the end, you can set up groups of lights with different names. Then you can use the app to decide what other devices can turn these lights on. For example, I set my driveway floodlight camera to light up these four pathlights, lighting the walkway to the front door. You can have the lights then turn off 30 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes, or 5 minutes. You can also set a timeframe that lights can be triggered between each day, and more advanced schedules during the week. Response time is not immediate. When my floodlight camera detects motion and turns on its lights, it takes 3-5 seconds for these pathway lights to turn on. I have a very strong Wi-Fi signal in the house and I have the Ring hub close to the front of the house where the lights are. The Ring smart hub, required for any of the new smart lighting products, does not have a very good Wi-Fi radio on it and I found that it struggled to get a good signal despite my strong signal throughout the house to all other devices. Perhaps that is the reason for the delay? There is a "dusk to dawn" feature that will keep your pathlights dimly lit all night and then brighten up when motion is detected. You can turn this off so the lights do not stay dimly lit all night and just turn on during motion to save batteries. The color temperature of these lights is much closer to white than I was hoping for. I wanted more of a soft white to match my other outdoor lights. But since these lights don't stay on for very long, it's okay. They are not "daylight" bright or have any blue in it, but they are not quite soft white either. I'm not sure how well or for how long these will stand up to the elements. I will report back if I see any signs of deterioration or moisture inside. I do wish they were made of metal instead of plastic though. Ring recommends against using rechargeable batteries: "Ring recommends using standard alkaline batteries in Pathlights. Rechargeable batteries will work in Ring Pathlights, though they may not last as long as alkaline batteries. Heavy duty batteries should not be used in Ring Pathlights. Lithium batteries will also work in Ring Pathlights and are recommended when the weather is extremely cold." Five stars for now because they do exactly what I wanted them to - light up more of the front of my home when motion is detected. If I have any issues in the future, I will update.

Good light. Lasted three years.
Pretty good light. It detects motion most of the time. Mine lasted three years before it appears the gasket failed at some point and allowed water inside of the battery tube.

Awesome lights! But be warned about the bridge…
These lights are great! Super simple to install and runs off D batteries (so no need to worry about the light bill). Lights are bright and there’s no delay in lighting all 6 of mine at once. My ONLY gripe would be the first 4 I purchased was the 4-pack with bridge….PLEASE DO NOT BUY THE BRIDGE!!! It’s crap and doesn’t sync! Just use the Amazon Sidewalk and they will sync just fine.

Great lights
Update I was contacted by ring customer service and they replaced the lights I was having problems with. Customer service was great. If I get another year out of them now that would be acceptable. Hopefully they’ll last I really like the lights. Original review I’ve had these a little over a year now. They work great and are nice and bright but they don’t last. Of the 4 I have one had to be replaced because water was leaking into the battery compartment. Now 2 more are acting up, both are getting a lot of condensation then it seems to be getting into the battery compartment. One won’t connect to the others and the other works on and off. At about 30 dollars a light I don’t expect to have to replace them every year.

Bought 8. Only 5 Remain working after 18 months.
These things work fairly well but the primary issue I've been having (living in Florida) is that they're not well water-proofed. I've lost 2 to rust-outs (the battery contact spring completely disintegrating from rust) and I've had to constantly replace their batteries because the battery compartment traps water inside and rusts the batteries. I have to replace batteries on some every other month only to find out they're filled with brownish water and corroded D-cells. The final pathlight that I've given up on has some kind of "update bug" where it refuses to connect to the bridge/app, instead prompting me to "reset" the connection and then going through a software update and ending up exactly where it began: Unable to connect to the bridge/app. Next time I would try the solar panel versions or a different company that touts water higher intrusion ratings over these. Update: Ring customer support reached out and was able to replace my damaged ones with the solar versions which are performing well. I’ll bump this back up to 5-stars but with the warning to be careful that you don’t place them in areas that may become overly saturated, like downhill from a gutter drainpipe.

UPDATE: CHANGING FROM 2 STARS TO 5.
2/3/20 UPDATE: It has been exactly five months since my original post and the batteries are now showing half charged for pathlights 1-10. I purchased two additional pathlights labeled 11 & 12 back on Oct 11 and they are still showing fully charged. I guess I would have to agree that the recommendations that were given to me by Ring on how to extend the life of the batteries are legit and actually do work. UPDATE: Was contacted by Ring, (well… actually Amazon since they now own Ring) the day after posting my review offering their assistance with the issue I was experiencing with the batteries depleting after 4 days. Daniel, who specializes in ring devices patiently walked me through the settings for each Pathlight (8 in total) to get the best experience to assist with extending the life of the batteries. It has now been a full week and the batteries are still at full charge. Daniel assured me that by using the recommended settings the life of the batteries should last at least a year. (fingers crossed)........I really love these lights, they are bright, stylish and can easily detect motion. I am now in the process of purchasing two more lights for a total of 10. The lights are bright and gorgeous when turned on, but they each require 4 “D” size batteries and if you live in a high traffic area like I do which includes a very busy street that also serves as a cut through road, neighbors jogging and walking dogs, homeless stray cats, random critters that like to roam in the middle of the night (possums, skunks, raccoons, deer’s, etc) and you despise changing the batteries every 4 days like I do then these lights are NOT for you. I have given up replacing the batteries so now I just have lawn ornaments sitting in my front yard.
