Works great and arrived quickly!
I ordered this to use for Thanksgiving. I totally forgot I had to throw our old one out and this was delivered really fast. This item is: • Sharp • Easy to hold • Works great • Is long and user friendly • Shaved all of the lemon peels off the lemons My only complaint is that these take some time to clean in general, but that's with any of these. I soaked it in some hot soapy water and was able to get the peel off without too much work. Overall, this is a well-made, sharp, and easy to use microplane. This is a must have, multipurpose too everyone needs in their kitchen, in my opinion.

One of those kitchen tools that instantly earns permanent drawer space
This is one of the few kitchen tools I’d consider a genuine must-have for almost anyone who cooks regularly. Do you technically *need* a Microplane? No. You can survive without one. But if you do much beyond heating frozen meals and boxed dinners, eventually you’re going to realize this is simply the best tool for several very specific jobs. And if you’re still using the shelf-stable green can of pre-grated parmesan for pasta… this is your sign to stop. For: * hard cheeses * citrus zest * garlic * nutmeg * ginger * chocolate * finishing garnishes this style of Microplane is absolutely the tool for the job. The classic fine blade hits an ideal balance where it’s aggressive enough to work quickly but still versatile enough for everyday cooking. There are other Microplane styles and sizes that may excel at individual tasks, and I own a few of those too, but this is the version that lives in the main utensil drawer and gets reached for constantly. In our house we actually keep at least two on hand at all times because it’s not worth discovering the only one is dirty right when you need it. What really separates a Microplane from cheap graters is the cutting action. It actually slices cleanly instead of just tearing food apart, which matters a lot for things like: * fluffy parmesan * fine citrus zest without bitter pith * garlic that melts into sauces * delicate chocolate shavings It’s one of those tools that quietly improves food quality all over your kitchen. Durability has also been excellent. The blades stay sharp for a very long time as long as you’re not abusing them against hard surfaces, and the overall construction is simple enough that there’s not much to go wrong. If you’re completely new to Microplanes, this is the one I’d recommend starting with before branching into specialty versions. It’s by far the most versatile and the easiest to justify keeping within arm’s reach. Just an extremely useful kitchen tool that earns its drawer space over and over again.

Finally a great zester!
I've tried to zest a teaspoon from a lemon for literally decades. Assortment of graters, even purchased an item that was called a lemon zester. This one actually works! I've been using it for over a year and can finally zest 1-2 tsp of lemon. Works great for garlic. And my husband is finally happy to have a good way to grate ginger.

Quality and works well
This works really well. I love it. It’s really easy to use. I owned a smaller one of a different brand that was hard to use so I upgraded to this and I’m happy with my purchase.

Almost perfect.
Everything you've heard about this microplane is true. It's razor-sharp and effortlessly glides through a brick of cheese. It zests citrus, grates nutmeg, and shaves chocolate into delicate mounds of powder-fine cocoa-y goodness. It's shiny and lovely and actually stays that way, due to high-quality stainless steel. Unfortunately, I'm taking away a star because every time I use it, I get wads and wads of cheese stuck under the curved back edges (you can see what I mean in the 3rd picture, where the model is awkwardly grating cheese with the plane held upside-down. I actually tried that, and it's absurd). Maybe that doesn't sound like a big deal, but it's a lot of cheese, maybe 1/2 oz, each time! Imagine what I'd waste in a month. So I have to dig the cheese out and it gets smooshed because it's already so finely grated, and when I'm through I end up with something like cheesy Play-Do. And that's not as appealing to me as it might be to say, a 3-year-old. If I were working for the good people at Microplane, I'd made the plane FLAT. Goodbye, wasted cheese and hello, five stars! Toss in a little plastic clamshell protective case and call it a day. And now I'm off for a nice 4-margarita company lunch. Kevin, hold my calls. **EDIT** About a week after I wrote this review, I used the microplane and attempted to get the stuck cheese out of that ridge. I stupidly slid my finger down it, trying to push out the cheese. What I got was a nasty cut on my index finger and a bloody wad of cheddar. Mind that edge, folks. Edit this post | Permalink

How long is it appropriate to wait until you tell your new kitchen gadget you love it?
I'll admit it. I'm in love with my new microplane. Our relationship has been short lived (I've only had it a week), but the fiery passion is all there (I've used it every day since it arrived). I came into this thinking I was picking up the perfect one trick pony. I like fresh zest on a lot of dishes that call for citrus, but this grater is so much more than that. Its amazing and taking garlic and ginger all the way down to a paste (something that takes a long time even if you have great knife skills. It makes the finest ribbons of parmesan to finish of pastas. It grates off delicate little curls of chocolate that can float on the surface tension of a martini. And its even sharp enough to handle grating some fresh hard spices (nutmeg or cinnamon) for making, tea, and fancy coffee. Utility wise I got way more than I bargained for with this one and build wise I couldn't be happier. The blade is long which makes zesting and grating quicker. The sides fold around which makes the grater very sturdy. It also allows you the option to grate on either the large side or one of the small sides since all the sides have teeth. This is helpful if you're trying to get the last bits of zest off a lemon and are trying to avoid zesting the pith. The handle of the unit is a rather industrial looking black plastic, but its ergonomic and easy to clean. The blade is relatively easy to clean as well. After scraping all of the goodness out of the back of the grater I just run it under wanter and wipe it with a sponge (remember to go against the grain of the cutting teeth or you'll need a new sponge). So thats it. I love it...her...no it definitely it. I don't know how I've gone so long without one of these in my kitchen and already can't imagine the kitchen without one. For now the durability of this unit seems quite good, but even if it wore out in 6 months I'd consider it a good value and would certainly purchase another.
