Not quite accurate
I have just started with this concise history of the WWI. However, I should caution other readers. So far in the first couple of chapters I have found a couple of inaccuracies. First following the assignation of the Archduke, Gavrilo Princip (the assassin) was not lynched, he did stand trial and died in prison. Second Russia didn't have a mutual aggression treaty with Britain the way Russia did with France as stated in the chapter about the start of the war. I'm sure Russia and Great Britain had treaties, but not one that said Britain would go to war with Russia. France had such a treaty with Russia. Britain entered the war because the German invasion plan went through Belgium. Britain had a treaty with Belgium guaranteeing its existence so when Germany invaded Belgium to get to France, Britain declared war on Germany.I expect more, even from short histories.

A War that is Underestimated to Our Detriment.
This is a quick and interesting introduction to a war that set the stage for many of the major events of the last century. Are you interested in the trench warfare of the Western Front? There are at least eight chapters focused on it, including one each on the major battles of Marne, Ypres, Verdun, and the Somme. If you are curious about chemical warfare during the war, it is discussed in two chapters. Furthermore, there is a detailed timeline of chemical warfare during the First World War. Are you more interested in the more mobile war on the Eastern Front? If so, there are at least two chapters on that. The section on the Brusilov Offensive was especially fascinating to me. Are you more interested in the Gallipoli campaign, naval warfare, or the more personal views of the horror of the war? If so, know that there are chapters on those too. Refresh your memory, or learn for the first time, about the fall of the Russian Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Finally, observe the early rise of the Third Reich which, partially at least, resulted from some of the errors by the victors. As you can see, I highly recommend this as an introduction into a tragic war that served as a turning point in modern history.

It was a great read! I liked the. through explanations of the most important parts of the War. It gave the most important and interesting parts of history. I like the footnotes and references included so if needed I could do more research myself. It was also explain in an easy to understand way, too. Great brush up and summer read for my son
My son had so many questions about WWI so I bought this book in hopes to answer most of those questions and give him some summer reading. He loves the book and thinks the details really create a great visual of things going on. I recommend this for anyone looking to learn a little more or give the kids a good history read

Almost nothing about America
The book is a very condensed summary of World War One but there is almost nothing about America's role. The entry of America is mentioned but it is almost an afterthought. Not one reference is made to any battle fought by Americans. There is also no mention of the role aviation player in the conflict.
