So, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so sound is in the ear of the listener. Recoded music is at the mercy of the original producer and of the reproducing equipment (speakers, headphones etc.). Sometimes we like what we hear rather than hear what we like. I fancied a pair of good Bluetooth headphones and in response to so many accolades and five star reviews, I purchased from Amazon a pair Sony WH-1000XM3 Headphones. They had what many would say was an excellent sound with good detail (when I could hear it) and a positive sound stage but unfortunately a tight rendition with over emphasised bass. I was listening to Sony engineer’s definition of what they thought I should be hearing rather than what I wanted to hear. No amount of equaliser adjustment could overcome the bass nor the tightness of sound. Maybe a good test is to listen to headphones whilst suffering from a hangover. As far as I am concerned, the Sonys would fail miserably. So under Amazon’s fabulous returns system, they went back. The latest Bose 700 headphones I believe have more treble emphasis but again, and I have not actually tried them, an engineered sound. Also, they are more expensive. Reading the frustrations of other reviewers, I was guided to the Jabra Elite 85H which I duly ordered from Amazon. I am glad that I did. The Jabra seem to lack some of the tight sound stage definition of the Sonys and also possibly lack the mid range quality (even to the point at high volume of bordering on slight distortion) but the sound is open, asking to be moulded to my preference rather than some engineer’s idea of what I should be hearing. They are very comfortable and so so easy to listen to for long periods. My preference is for clean detailed sound, fingers sliding along acoustic guitar strings and cymbals fading gradually into the distance. The Jabras give me this but seem equally happy with heavy metal, pounding drumming and even my wife’s prediliction for disco music. There are four equalised sound presets which can be moved through at the press of a button on one of the ear pads. Although Jabra has given each a name (as you press the button a voice tells you which one you are listening to) the equaliser for each can be vastly altered using the mobile phone app. If you feel that a particular track needs more bass to suit, then flick through the presets until you have the one that you have set to bass emphasis. Another pair of buttons can be used to move backwards and forwards through tracks and another to move to either noise cancellation, no noise cancellation and ‘sound through’. The latter amplifies external sound so if wearing the headphones which are over ear so to some extent are noise blocking without ANC being on, one can still hear external announcements. A further button connects to the various voice assistants. As yet, I have only used them once for making a mobile call but voice both ways was clear and worked fine. There have been occasional momentary Bluetooth drop outs but at this stage I have no idea of the cause and not really a problem. I understand that the Bluetooth is not up to latest spec meaning that the quality potential of the Bluetooth may be very slightly reduced. Impossible to comment on this as I have no means of comparing. Relevant voice assistant (e.g. Alexa) is accessible by the press of a button although have not had the need to use this yet. Battery life is superb. Not actually measured it but the phones were still fully charged after being used for a few hours followed by three weeks storage. The mobile app was easy to download and allows variations on the control of the headphones but once preferences have been set, is not really needed. Overall, I am well pleased with the Elite 85H headphones. Both with build and function quality, comfort, flexibility of sound adjustment and the noise that they make.

**** Update after 9 months headphones are going fine. Just got caught in a heavy hailstorm while walking the dog and headphones worked faultlessly. Original review The thing I like best about these headphones is the user experience but you have to update the firmware as soon as you get them, which is simple to do through the Jabra app. I own a lot of headphones by Shure, Bose, Bowers & Wilkins, AKG etc but I use these headphones more than the others because the buttons are simple and intuitive, noise cancelling works well and the build quality is really good. The headphones turn on and off by swivelling the ear pieces, which avoids accidentally forgetting to turn them off and flattening the battery. If you take them off, the music pauses until you put them back on, simple and convenient. The hear through function is great when outside but it’s super easy to change to noise cancelling. Call quality is great although It would be nice to have external noise cancelling when on a phone call. Build quality is fantastic, very solid and comfortable to wear. They do work fine in light rain unlike most headphones. These things are very solid and well built. To be honest, I bought 3 pairs because I was so impressed with them. Sound quality is perfectly fine, I am quite fussy, it isn’t perhaps quite as well resolved as the Bowers and Wilkins headphones but still very good and more than acceptable. Bowers and Wilkins PX7 tend to be more expensive tho so in terms of value for money these Jabra’s are great, especially if you can get them at a discounted price, maybe < £200. Overall very happy, battery life is better than most headphones, they use the usb-c charger which is great unlike the Bose headphones. The only headphones i like more are actually the AirPods Pro, which are probably the best from a UX perspective but these Jabra’s really surprised me with how good they are.

Likes: they are very comfortable and feel solid even when put in a rumbling rucksack without the case. I fell off my skateboard with these on and they took a massive hit (probably saved my head too!) and they only have one deep scratch, perfect functionality. The sound quality* for me I had to tweak the eq both in Spotify and the manufacturers app, after listening for a few months the drivers have definitely loosened up a bit and sound better than when I first got them. Bass is controlled and warm. I’d say 7/10 bass intensity. The design is nice, just wish it was a little less bulky in places. Love the quick switching between ANC and hear through, super handy! Dislikes: The app can be confusing at first or when switching devices. I have to hold the reset button on the headphones, then forget device on my phone, and then turn Bluetooth on and off to make this work… a bit of a faff! Wish it had a higher quality audio codec, this would help the sound quality and bass if it was higher quality than it is. Buttons are a bit deep and clicky. You can feel yourself pushing them into your head sometimes. BATTERY LASTS FOR AGESSSSSSS. Charged twice in 4 months. Taken on multiple trips and commuting. Quick Pairing is amazing and the voice assistant is useful (this isn’t the same as Alexa or Siri) Overall: I’d say for the price: 7/10. If you can justify nearly £300 for Sonys than these are a nice more budget friendly midtier headphone. However, Sony XM3s are a similar price and are probably a better more solid choice. Next time I’d pick Sony but I’m not disappointed as these are very enjoyable and comfortable to wear and commute with.

Love these headphones! Super comfy, great looking, I picked them after reading a tech radar review on the 10 best over the ear headphones. These were at a great price, on offer for the cream colour, when I got them. For me it was between these and the Phillips, as I didn't want to spend £300 on Sonys, as I hadn't used headphones of any sort in a while, and didn't know how I'd get on with them. How things have changed, since I last used headphones! The design is great- one review said they were very big but I didn't think they looked any bigger than other ones out there..Although in comparison to my daughter's Bose ones, which are really comfortable to wear around your neck, these aren't and the headphones push against your chin. Not a major thing but I thought if I needed to remove them when out walking, then I could just wear them around my neck, but I can't. However they have a very intuitive Hear through system which allows you to hear what's going on around you rather than total noise cancelling and having to remove them . You can also have total noise cancellation if you prefer and when I tried it, it blocked all outside noise out very effectively. I felt like I was in a complete bubble of my own! The ear covers are made of the softest leather type fabric and are very comfortable for wearing them for an hour or two. I still like taking them off though, once in a while! They also have a cool function of turning on by opening the headphones up and similarly pausing when you take them off your head. The controls are very simple. Music quality and call clarity is great- far better than the Bose. There's lots to like about these and I do! I really recommend them.

I’m a prolific buyer of headphone and earphones, as I tend to use particular products for particular activities, gaming, work outs, commuting, general listening etc. So I was interested to see how the Jabra Elite 85h would fare. I've now been using these headphones over a number of weeks and have to say I'm very impressed. The first impression is definitely impacted by the packaging and the unboxing experience. Its clear that Jabra have used quality materials in producing and packaging this product. The headphones are packed in a beautifully slick carry case and come with a USB-C charging cable and a 3.5mm headphone cable, enabling them to be used wirelessly or wired which is definitely a bonus. The Jabra Sound+ app is not essential but helps you to get a better experience with these headphones. You can use the app to control the level of noise cancellation depending on your varying environment and surroundings. It can also help you choose a sound profile and to display the battery level, its definitely an interesting and novel way to listen. In terms of comfort, they really are a super snug fit and this really assists in the already pretty good sound quality. I’ve had a few over the head earphones and I have to say these come out pretty far at the top! Going back to the noise cancelling function, it would be remiss of me to not go ointo a little bit more detail. These headphones come with three core settings; Active, HearThrough and off. The HearThrough setting is perfect for times when you want to still be able to hear some if the noise around you, with a little toddler to keep an eye on, this is useful! I should also add that I have been super impressed by the battery life on these headphones, requiring minimum recharging and a voice reminder to recharge! Similarly the Bluetooth function is brilliant, allowing me to go quite far distances without being affected. The sound is crisp. Call quality is just as good as the music quality, nice and crisp. I’m not one for full on bass so I am pretty happy with the level you get for this, but I’m not sure how people who prefer harder bass notes would find this. In terms of how I use these headphones, I am more inclined to use them for gaming and general listening, they are a little large for workouts. In summary, I would highly recommend the Jabra Elite 85h if you're looking for something with style and excellent functionality!

This product has me so conflicted its painful. One the one hand - the hardware is fantastic. Sound is great (especially after messing with EQ). Really good headphones. But on the other hand, Alexa doesn’t work, auto play/pause works sometimes, its a headphone jack - not a headset jack (why!?), the sound quality drops off a cliff when you disable ANC and windows support is not a thing. Detail below: Hardware Really nice headband, comfortable to wear. Twist to turn off/on is really good. Size adjustment is excellent. They sound great for me especially after playing with the EQ settings. Because these are for mobiles/tablets only (which wasn’t clear before buying) I had hoped that I could connect them via the lead to my laptop’s headset socket (a 3.5mm socket which can do audio and mic and the same time). Unfortunately the headphones don’t support mic down the cable. An example of something that can do this is 3.5mm jack apple earpods that retail for about £25 so make of that what you will. The plastic hinges for folding away the ear-cups look like the structural bottleneck of the product and I suspect that’s where they’ll break first. Battery is awesome. Software So these have ANC/Hearthrough (transparency) and Off modes to choose from. The sound quality is great for me on ANC, its the same on Hearthrough although there is a very slight hiss. On Off mode - they sound really really average. Very little bass. A bit cheap sounding. I’ve asked Jabra about this and they said there should be no difference. Makes me wonder if this is done to make the ANC on here three modes stand out more. Alexa doesn’t work well with iOS. Basically you need to have then paired to your device, Jabra app open and on screen and don’t even think about locking your phone. Summoning Alexa without the app on screen for me has resulted in: 1.) Alexa never answers 2.) Sometimes Siri comes up (!!?) 3.) I’ve had them get stuck and need to be turned off and on again. Seriously what is the point of an Alexa button if you need to unlock your phone, open the Jabra app and wait for it to connect before using it. I gather than this isn’t a problem with other maker’s headphones. A couple more problems: They’re meant to auto play/pause when you take them off/put them on, its unreliable for me. There’s no way to disconnect bluetooth devices from the headphones (some products have this) you need to do it from the connected device (which could be at the other side of the house if you’re unlucky!) I’ve been told my voice is crystal clear but a bit quiet on calls. AptX would have been nice (they don’t claim to have it or anything though - just a shame). Thing is I mostly love the hardware but just want to redo the software myself! I got these for £169.99 and most of the big names are in the £300 region. Currently on the fence whether to return them or not.

The headphones come in a decent enough case to protect them. The headphones themselves are of a reasonable build quality. They aren't the best...but you're not paying premium prices (especially as they seem to be regularly on sale)...so they are probably all you can expect for the money. The app that controls them is good with some nice widget integration and built in soundscapes. The fit is comfortable with reasonable sound isolation. Sound quality is again not bad at all. Probably better than I expected for the price but these are not audiophile cans. The equaliser and built in pre-sets can help. The biggest let down is the ANC. I had the ANC turned on and didn't realise it was on. So you really can't compare the ANC in these to Bose, Apple or Sony. These were purchased for the gym so I will update this review when they have been tested in that environment. Overall the first impressions are that they are better than the sum of their parts as long as you're not expecting too much from them and are not expecting the best in ANC. UPDATE - The battery life on these is phenomenally good. ANC is as stated above okay. What is not okay is that at a few days after six months of use the right headphone has started crackling. Not sure what is causing it but it sounds like constant static. The noise is made worse with movement so as you can imagine this fault renders them useless. I got these on sale for £150...not a lot in the grand scheme of things...but I honestly expected them to last longer than 6 months.

I have been looking for the right over-ear headphones for AGES. I'd actually been happy with a much cheaper Trond pair, broke them and was gutted they were no longer available. Thing is, I'm not even that fussed about sound quality, as I use headphones mainly for audiobooks and phone calls. I just have very simple requirements, which most 'top-end' sets don't offer ... These Jabra headphones are perfect for me, at least, so in case you have the same requirements: - The buttons are subtle but not flimsy, and you press them rather than having to tap or swipe. It is mega easy to get used to how to change the volume, skip forward/back, press play/pause and answer/end calls. I only got these yesterday and already have no problems operating the controls. - It's super-easy to scroll through active noise cancellation, hear-through and normal modes. - Call quality is flawless! I've tried other headphones and had to return them because people couldn't hear me, but no issues at all with the mic on these. - The app makes it even easier to change settings, e.g. treble and bass, and to set up different preset levels of sound for anything you're listening to. - It hadn't been a main priority for me, but the sound is FANTASTIC – easily as good as Bose etc. I'll be listening to music more now just because I have these. - Build quality is clearly loads better than Sony/others. - They are very comfortable to wear, including for me with a biggish head – Sennheiser headphones gave mea headache after only a short time. - They look great – quite big but in a cool way, with trendy band/cups shape. I just couldn't be happier with these headphones and only pray Jabra never stops making them, or starts swapping in fiddly/unreliable touch controls. These are PERFECT.

- Qualité de fabrication Dès l’ouverture du carton, on sent la qualité de fabrication surtout au niveau du simicuir de la sacoche de transport rigide. Une fois le casque en main, on n’est pas déçu, la qualité des matériaux se fait sentir et surtout il n’y a aucun « jeu » entre l’arceau et les oreillettes. Tout est solide, bien en place et surtout sans perdre en légèreté. Ce qui surprend. - Ergonomie/confort J’ai pu immédiatement l’essayer pour un long trajet en TGV. Il est incroyablement léger et se fait totalement oublier sur la tête. Il n’est pas encombrant et le système de réglage du serrage de l’arceau est très puissant. Une fois réglé, il ne bouge plus et c’est très appréciable. J’ai déjà eu des casques où il fallait constamment resserrer l’arceau. Ici, on le fait une fois et c’est bon. Je suis sujet aux maux de têtes quand quelque chose appui longuement sur ma tête mais là, sur le trajet de 3h, aucun souci. Surement dû à la mousse qui est très souple et au serrage qui ne perd pas de force du début à la fin. Vraiment impressionnant ! - Qualité audio Le plus important, j’écoute de la musique en FLAC pour perdre le moins de qualité possible et associée à ce casque c’est tout simplement incroyable ! Le son est pur, les basses sont profondes et les différents instruments sont très facilement dissociés et entendus. Vraiment bravo pour la performance, j’avais déjà essayé un casque Jabra dans le passé, je me suis lancé avec celui-ci et c’est vraiment le meilleur casque que j’ai pu avoir. Ce qui m’a aussi bluffé c’est le « Hear Through ». J’ai pu à la gare continuer à apprécier ma musique tout en écoutant les appels micro comme si je n’avais pas de casque sur les oreilles. C’est absolument bluffant et participe à son oubli d’ailleurs. J’ai laissé l’ANC activé et le son était absolument dingue. Je suis totalement isolé du monde extérieur, surtout lorsque l’on désactive l’Hear Through. Vraiment un bon point et j’ai hâte de l’utiliser un avion ! Au téléphone en mode kit mains-libres j’étais très facilement entendus, là-dessus rien à signaler c’est impeccable. - Batterie Je l’ai utilisé tout le week-end (4h de trajet aller-retour) + le soir pour regarder un film sans déranger, je ne suis toujours pas prêt de le recharger, je dois avoir utilisé 1/3 de la batterie… Encore une fois, c’est impressionnant de voir une telle autonomie. Je n'en ai pas parlé mais c'est aussi sympa de penser à mettre la connectique double jack dans la sacoche de base. Autrement il est fourni avec connectique Jack et USB Type-C (Donc possible de le recharger avec le même cable que son téléphone pour éviter d'en avoir 50 avec soi...) Bref un casque incroyable que je recommande les yeux fermés. Impossible d’être déçu de son achat pour ceux qui veulent un casque qui place la barre très très très haut.

Bardzo wygodne słuchawki, całkiem dobrze grające, świetna jakość rozmów - stworzone do telekonferencji - dobra bateria, bardzo dobra apka. Mechanicznie nieodporne: rozkleiły się pady - brak zamienników - fatalne rozwiązanie sterowania "dotykowego" w prawej słuchawce - wymaga dużego/silnego nacisku a nie dotyku. Pod wpływem naciskania bardzo szybko zużyły się pady w prawej słuchawce.

there is a constant static cracking in the one of the earphones that is making it annoying to impossible to use the earphones!

Scrivo la recensione dopo alcune settimane di utilizzo. Prima di queste jabra ho provato delle cuffie sennheiser restituite in meno di una settimana. Ho delle esigenze un po' particolari nel senso che lavorando in un datacenter (quindi con un livello di rumore piuttosto elevato) avevo bisogno di un paio di cuffie con una buona cancellazione del rumore e che mi permettesse di telefonare tenendo le mani libere. Ovviamente l'ascolto della musica è un plus. A differenza delle sennheiser con le jabra è possibile applicare il filtro del rumore di fondo anche durante le telefonate. Le cuffie si possono collegare a due dispositivi contemporaneamente. Quindi 2 cellulari oppure 1 cellulare e 1 PC. Opzione comodissima perchè posso partecipare ai meeting via Teams e allo stesso tempo ricevere telefonate. Lo switch è automatico, ovvero se state ascoltando Teams (o qualsiasi altro programma di online meeting) e squilla il telefono, l'audio del pc viene silenziato e switchato in automatico sul telefono. Le cuffie sono circumaurali (quindi ricoprono completamente l'orecchio) e l'isolamento passivo del rumore è discreto. Attivando l'ANC, in un ambiente MOLTO rumoroso come il datacenter in cui lavoro (circa 90dB di rumore di fondo) l'attenuazione è buona. Se siete in un ambiente tipo ufficio o casa sono sicuro che l'effetto sarà ancora maggiore. Molto comodo il fatto che con il pulsantino sul padiglione sinistro si possa passare tra le 3 modalità: ANC (Active Noise Cancelling), OFF (isolamento solo passivo) e EAR THROUGH (il rumore esterno viene "riprodotto" in cuffia). Ciò mi permette di passare da ANC a Ear Through quando per esempio esco da una sala server e ho bisogno di parlare con qualcuno senza la necessità di togliere le cuffie. Le cuffie si spengono da sole quando le togliete e piegate gli auricolari. Viceversa, mettendo gli auricolari in posizione di ascolto si accendono. Hanno la possibilità di controllare la riproduzione musicale, la gestione delle chiamate e del volume usando direttamente i tastini (nascosti dal tessuto) presenti sul padiglione destro. La batteria ha un'ottima durata, indossandole per circa 6 ore al giorno ci faccio praticamente tutta la settimana. Trovo molto ben fatto anche il software installabile sul cellulare che permette una configurazione piuttosto fine e granulare delle varie impostazioni. Per quanto riguarda la riproduzione musicale sono delle buone cuffie ma diciamo che c'è di meglio. Se le avessi dovute comprare principalmente per l'ascolto della musicia probabilmente mi sarei orientato su altri prodotti. Prezzo piuttosto elevato ma tutto sommato giustificato dalle buone caratteristiche e dalla qualità non ho trovato in altri prodotti.
