Removing carpet pad staples just became a breeze!
Found an article where someone recommended these for removing carpet pad staples. I discovered hard wood floors in my house and am removing carpet and these work like a charm. I have cats around so I do small sections at a time from start to finish and when I'm removing staples, I have the ShopVac nearby and just keep flicking them that way for immediate suction and removal from floor.

Good Product With One Potential Exception
This is a sturdy staple remover made of chrome plated steel and a small part that actually gets under the staple and lifts it out that appears to be heat-treated steel, which is even stronger. It removed staples up to 3/4" without strain. It is almost overkill to use it to remove smaller staples that are just holding several sheets of paper together. I also tested it on 5/8" furniture staples that were solidly embedded in hardwood. It removed those staples with ease as well. It is strong enough however to occationaly break staples that are embedded in hardwood. Several times I needed to pull one embedded end of the staple with pliers, but I did not regard this as a problem; rather, it is a testament to how strong this devise is. I also doubt that this would ever happen with staples embedded in paper. The only potential problem occurs when you are first using it. Sometimes extra force is necessary to push down on the chrome plated handle which can be a little slippery if you do not apply the downward force without gripping the handle with your fingers curled underneath it to provide stability. If you just use your palm to push down on the handle, your hand can slide off and the remover may slide forwards away from you. This happened to me twice before I realized how to use it properly. It did not cause any injury, but I imagine it could be a source of minor injury in rare occasions to new users. The product does what it is supposed to do in an almost effortless manner and with the quality of its construction, it should last more than a lifetime. I am a retired executive and if I had been aware of this product before retiring, I would have bought one for my Administrative Assistant to make her life a bit easier.

Great remover - some tips
Works great, sometimes you first have to lift the two edges of the staples and then lift; otherwise the legs of the staples may crack, and you have to pull apart the sheets to remove. You have to stick the 'tongue' of the remover fully under the staple so that the two legs of the remover surround it - like that it gets leverage. But the springs that hold it straight, cracked. Swingline gives a lifetime warrantee on its products, I believe, but I have had better experience with Ktrio Staple Remover Professional, it is easier to maneuver than a large remover like this .So, this remover looks quite fancy and it may have its place -- you can see a lot of people are happy with it, but I was happier with those (pen-style removers, I have found those better than the 'alligator teeth' as well. )

Super staple remover after a mild modification.
This staple remover is a very good staple remover after I made a slight modification. The modification that I made was to grind down the end that slides under the staple to make it thinner on the forward edge so that it slides under the staple better. After making that mod it really works well. The thing that I really like is that it grabs the staple and pulls it out so you don't have to use pliers, It is very heavy duty. I am a coin collector and I used this to pull out the staples on those 2x2 coin holders where the staples were small and tight.

it works great
This isn't ideal for use on thin stacks of 2 or 3 papers. Use a claw or the slide in remover for that (the slide in that increases in thickness over the trunk). This removes staples from thin (not too thin) to thick stacks well, easily. There's a way in which it works perfectly and a way which causes staples to break. There is a toungue like metal piece in the middle and two flat parts (arms) on either side of it. The tongue slides into the staple, DO NOT shove it in so far that the two arms are next to/touching the sides of the staple. If you do, it will act as a sheer, breaking the staple on both sides. Every time I've done this, the staple breaks. If you pay attention while you're doing this.Slide it in slightly (like 1/8th of an inch or 1/16th of an inch) and it will work perfectly. If you're dealing with a particularly thick stack, a long staple, first apply it to the back of the stack, pry open the arms of the staple, then do the front.I see no reason for the bad reviews (at least, not on the device I received) or complaints about this thing being wild & crazy and flailing all about. It's simple. Just do it, be calm, look at what you're doing. It works. You'll figure it out.
