Keratex Hoof Hardener

Q: Is there any place where you cannot put the Keratex Hoof Hardner i.e. frogs, coronary bands, bulbs. How long does it take to work.

I have used it for years and I only put it on the outside lower half of the hooves. It can be applied to the soles, but do not put it on the frogs or bulbs or coronary bands unless instructed to do so by your vet. I noticed an improvement after about a week. Your mileage may vary. I hope this helps.

the hardener is used to harden the soft hoof and then the gel is used to maintain it. The keratex website has information on the difference. the gel can be used all year once the sole is hard. the gel can be used year around once the hoof is hard.

Q: Does this come with an applicator? I've read reviews saying it doesn't last that long when you have to use a paint brush because of the waste

Yes it does come with a little brush. The amount of waste can be very small because the viscosity of the product is low so it is fairly easy to use nearly all on the tiny brush. I use the cap from the Keratex bottle and brush it all out and onto hooves before stopping. I pour the cap comfortably full (2/3 or so) when I start and that's enough to do two hooves-sole and outside up to 1" of the coronary. Then I keep adding enough to do the other two hooves. I paint until cap and brush are dry and rinse both.
