Q: It comes with a 3’ extension cord, but how long is the main cord that’s attached to the unit?

The main cord that comes out of the unit is approximately 64 inches (5 1/3 feet). An extension cord can be used as long as the extension cord is rated at 15 amps or greater. The extension cord (if one is needed) shouldn't be any longer that 10 feet.

Q: Does this convert 240 to 120?

This unit does not perform power conversion. Part of the spec reads 'The M-8Dx features a digital bright red, 3digit LED voltmeter that displays the incoming line voltage from 60 to 150 VAC (accuracy +/- 2 VAC). It may be better to use a power converter to convert from 240 to 120. Then connect the The Furman M-8Dx Merit X Series 8 Outlet Power Conditioner to it.

Q: Is it wise to use this unit to power your guitar amplifier, other rack gear and to your pedal board?

If your guitar amplifier is 50 watts or less, you may be OK. I use the unit for my mixing board, laptops, and processing equipment. Your rack equipment and pedal board will work well with the Furman Power conditioner. This Furman unit operates at 15 amps, and if your amplifier and other equipment won't draw more than 15amps, you may be OK.
