Without a doubt one of the finest and most complete survey in print. It is welll written and contains good clear examples. I am happy to have it.

Not a bad book. I got it for a performance practice class at Cal State University, Northridge. It never really helped me much, but its an ok read I guess.

'The Historical Performance of Music' by Colin Lawson is a marvelous introduction to period music making. The book starts with a general introduction, and continues with a series of practical case studies.
