Amazon Basics Single Outlet Indoor 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Smart Plug, works with Alexa only, 4-Pack, White, UK

I recently purchased the Amazon Basics Single Outlet Indoor 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Smart Plug (4-Pack), and I am genuinely impressed with the value and functionality they offer.Pros:Easy Setup: Setting these up was a breeze! The instructions are straightforward, and within minutes, all four plugs were connected to my Wi-Fi and linked to Alexa. No technical headaches at all.Alexa Integration: If you’re already in the Alexa ecosystem, these plugs are perfect. Voice commands like "Alexa, turn on the lamp" work instantly, and the responsiveness is spot-on.Compact Design: The plugs are compact, so they don’t block adjacent outlets, which is a common issue with other smart plugs. I’ve installed them on power strips and wall outlets with no problem.Affordable 4-Pack: Getting four smart plugs at this price is an absolute steal. It’s perfect if you’re just starting to smarten up your home or need additional plugs for multiple rooms.Reliable Connection: The 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection is stable. I haven’t experienced any dropouts, even with all four plugs running simultaneously.ConIt wont work with the university wifi network like eduroam.

There are two types of smart plug for Alexa: Amazon's own and third-party ones. I've had several third-party ones and they work but can be a pain, especially after a power cut or if you get a new router. That's because you have to connect them to your wi-fi through an app that usually asks for all kinds of personal info you don't want to give, and when you need to reset the plug, you have to go through it all again and you probably forgot your password or how to do it.Amazon's own original smart plugs were much better. Easy to set up and easy to to reset. But they were also expensive. Too expensive.Enter the Amazon Basics smart plug. This is both very easy to set up and really good value. Nearly a quarter the price of the old ones. They're also much more compact.My one criticism is the QR codes you need to set them up (you can type in a numerical code too). They're printed on each plug (each code is different) but the printing is too blurry and my phone didn't recognise it as a code. Luckily the code is also printed on a sticker added to the instruction leaflet. Sadly these don't peel off so you can't add them to each plug. And they're all printed too close together and you have to cut them out or fold them so your phone knows which code it's supposed to be scanning. Considering how good everything else is, this part of the process is frustratingly amateurish and badly done.Also worth noting these only work with Alexa, so they're not a universal plug you could one day use with Google or Apple smart home systems.

These plugs are fantastic! Set up is standard and could be a little easier to pair but after pairing the first one, the process becomes straightforward enough. Once set up, there is no issues with having to repair etc.

Best feature is the dedicated Alexa functionality; I really have disliked using plugs that need software set up on my phone first. However blind panic when setting them up. Did not seem to connect initially and I had to reset at least two of the plugs using the button on the top of the plug. Everything was occuring to me not least that because I had bought them from the warehouse that they might be faulty. They were not faulty and because I bought them from the warehouse they were delivered the next day and not in several months time.In fact they are perfect. Their profile means they can be used in sockets where space is tight or where I use a two way adaptor and I am pleased I did not give up setting them up.As an aside for anyone using magnetic extension usb power leads it is my experience that for some equipment [A Tablet] the plug may draw too much power. Other equipment such as rechargable screwdriver, mini hoover and glue gun all charge as expected but the tablet seems not to charge. It may be because the double socket which is always on and has 2 of these plugs in the same socket as well as 2 built-in usb pugs in the socket may be the issue.Regardless they have proved excellent value and size for my purposes. Where I use one as a plug to a strip light Alexa has decided she wants to identify the plug as a light... with my permission of course!

A good plug at a good price. Very easy to install - there was an option on the purchase page to have the plug already programmed before dispatch so when it arrived it was just a case of plugging it in and Alexa connected immediately and I was good to go..... The plug itself is a standard size and doesn't stick out and press over the switch on the socket which some do...... that is a big plus. If you need a plug then this is a good option.

Bought 4 of these smart plugs after reading reviews about others,so plugged one in my socket and it did pair with my wi-if very easily….so eager to find if it worked a mile away from home got in my car and tried ,,when I got back home sure enough the light was on .the info says it will work very far away so we will see about that when I go on my holiday Spain …so far so good..ha.ha my wife is getting a little fed up of me testing them all the whileGiven 5stars.

Absolutely brilliant bits of kit!Easy, no fuss set up using the alexa app and works seamlessly with my alexa smart speaker. I can now control several lamps throughout the house with the app, or even my voice. This even works when I'm not at home via the Internet.I'd recommend this official smart socket over the other third party ones available... made by amazon, for amazon kit. 5 out of 5!
